Prince was famously anti-drug. I'd be absolutely floored if drugs were the cause of him leaving us.
He was a very personal individual, but it sounds like he was living in chronic pain due to his hips. Percocet is a strong opiate, and can be habit forming. I had a tooth abscess and I used percocet for a few weeks. I'll admit, to force myself to nothe take it is hard when you know you'll be in pain all day, every day.

It just sounds like the OD did damage to the heart and it went downhill fast. :(

The solo was awesome ... but that god damn outro. He just tossed the guitar and it vanished? Now I'm a grown as man, I know guitars just don't exit the realm of the living, but some one please, tell me were it went.

And let me know GAF, what is your favourite Prince song? Mine is "Sometimes it snows in April". Oh man the feels.

I'd mentioned this before, but having had Prince caress it as he did, Prince then released the guitar to ascend to heaven. (I'd like to think Prince is playing it right now.)

lol.

This is funny and fitting at the same time.

Yesterday I listened to an interview he did talking about the Dave Chappelle skit. Prince had a good sense of humor.

Fav Prince song? I might as well tell you who my fav kid is....

Off the top of my head a toss up between Scandalous and Adore.

You got a link ? I love it hear what he thought about those skits

Apparently that "flu" that he was suffering from a week ago was actually the effects of a drug overdose. He left the hospital after only 3 hours because they were denied a private room.

Looks like the decline started soon after.
Ouch. Refusing treatment and monitoring for something trivial like that was obviously a bad decision.

There needs to be better education on the long term effect of opiates. Seems like doctors are way too willing to prescribe and patients are way too willing to take without properly understanding the consequences.

i mean i agree with you but who is stopping a popular musician from getting whatever drugs they want?

He had supposedly destroyed parts of his body due to the strain of performance and refused to get surgery due to religious beliefs against blood transfusions, it wouldn't be surprising if he really needed dangerous amounts of painkillers just to feel good enough to perform :/

I've been on opiates for almost a month and it hasn't been easy to get. Specifically Vicodin. I've either got a herniated disc pressing on my spine or some kind of nerve issue and I won't know until I go for further testing next week.

That said..I just finished my first 30 pills..in about 3 weeks and I called for a refill. I had to drive to the doctor's office to get a written prescription because they won't just call that in to the pharmacy. I had to show my driver's license to the doctor's front desk, then they made a photocopy of the written prescription next to my driver's license and then I had to sign for it. Then I drove the scrip to the pharmacy where I had to again..show my driver's license and sign a document before they gave it to me. A complete traceable paper trail is what I had to create. They aren't that easy for the average person to legally get.

edit: Also..both the doctor's office and pharmacy stigamtize the hell out of you when you call and ask for it. They make you feel like a junkie when you ask for more.

Google Music is purple today. :(

I don't mean to draw comparisons but he is destroying iTunes in a way NO ONE else ever has. Last night he was the entire iTunes Top 11 songs - a feat no one has ever accomplished. It's so incredible to witness.

If I'm reading it correctly, the top 22 songs are all his right now. As are the Top 6 current albums. Fucking crazy. Purple Rain is also currently the no. 2 movie behind The Revenant.

HDD has him estimated to sell 900K track sales and for The Very Best of Prince to go #1 on the Hot 200. There is also a small chance that Purple Rain the single might finally go #1.

19 of the top 20, and 25 of the top 30.

For albums, he's got #1-6 right now, with Controversy at #9.

(A lot of those songs are doubles, actually - they're getting separate slots in the chart because they come from separate best-of albums)

We're not even 5 months into the year and it feels like everyone who influenced my musical tastes throughout my childhood and growing up has played there last tune in 2016.

I don't even want to think who's next :(

RIP Prince

Holy shit I just looked up the lyrics.... That's freaky shit

Prince always had the tendency to predict stuff future stuff in his songs. "...the 4th day of November, we need an Purple high." - All the Critics Love U in New York. Years later his Purple Rain tour starts on that day, when he had the number one movie and album in the country. An more obvious one is "Sometimes It Snows In April"...considering recent tragic event.

Yeah... Sad and disappointing but if it was an opiate related OD not surprising with the oldish stories about how bad shape he was physically and not being able to get surgery to take care of it because of the JW's stupid stance on blood transfusions. Are they even opposed to using your own banked blood?

You turn on the telly and every other story is tellin' you somebody died

If that certain rumor proves true, then yeah Sign O the Times will be another song I shall add to my list of emotional tracks I can't play. Especially what that song made an reference to....an certain illness.

Autopsy has been completed.

ABC News said:
One day after Prince Rogers Nelson was pronounced dead at the age of 57, the chief medical examiner for Midwest Medical Examiner's Office performed an autopsy on the music legend to determine the cause of death.

The autopsy began at 9 a.m. CDT and was completed at 1 p.m., a press release from the medical examiner's office said. The release added that the singer's body would be returned to his family later today.

A full report, including toxicology, could "likely take weeks," the release added.

Taken me some time to change me to terms with this. Prince always seemed like one of the few emissions who would live to a very old age, so it took me by complete surprise. Discovered prince when I started college and sign o the times was my first prince album. It blew me away completly and i then listened to just about every prince album since then.

He will be truly missed

I do not believe Purple Rain can chart on the Hot 100, was it released as a single in 1984?

Prince had a good sense of humor.

Really? Isn't he one of the few artists that flat-out refused to allow Weird Al to parody his songs? In fact he didn't just say no:

Weird Al Yankovic said:
One of the oddest things to ever happen between me and Prince was the year that he and I were at the American Music Awards at the same time. Apparently I was going to be sitting in the same row as Prince that year and I got a telegram — and I wasn’t the only one — from Prince’s management company saying that I was not to establish eye contact with him during the show. I just couldn’t even believe it.

Or he could've been going through opiate withdrawal, in which case the flu-like symptoms would be legit. Maybe he tried going off the pain meds, went into withdrawal and got super sick, and then relapsed a week or so later and overdosed? All speculation.
Not gonna lie. That is fucking hilarious and I can imagine it being Prince's sort of humour.
It sounds like Prince's sense of humor involved being a dick to everyone lol.

Pretty much. He loved fucking with people.

You can see this pretty clearly in Purple Rain and Under the Cherry Moon. Both those movies are pretty strongly sourced from his own personality (Graffiti Bridge less so) and both those movies are really mean-spirited.

You can count the number of moments of good-natured humor coming from Prince in either movie on one hand, I believe. Most of the time he's having his laugh/entertainment at the expense of someone else.

Well after that Jamie Foxx stand-up the management company may have just been trying to save the row from hot Prince sex >.>

Who was it that told that annecdote (Chris Tucker?) where he and Michael Jackson went to see Prince perform in Law Vegas? MJ was in disguise but Prince still recognized him and proceeded to play a 10 minute bass solo while gyrating in MJ's face >.< that sounds perfectly in line with this.

Can anyone point me to a Prince playlist on Spotify? I have to admit I only know his hit singles and Purple Rain, I mean the guy's music was something I grew up loving but those handful of tracks. I like that 80's funk + rock sound....if that helps. Hidden gems etc.
