"The Ass Nintendo Doesn't Want You To See" (Kotaku)

Firehawk12 has the same opinion on all Japanese media. He wants all fans to hide in closets and basements while hating themselves.

FYI there's no censoring in the EU version.

Europe wins again.

Must've set off the ESRB somehow. It'd be REALLY disappointing if this was somehow M territory, though I guess a new content descriptor would be enough for Nintendo to act.

So...

Surprisingly, the staff actually mention the censoring of Tharja's CG in Summer Scramble (in North America); apparently it was edited to comply with ratings. The June issue came out on 20th April, while Summer Scramble was released on 2nd May, so it's amusing to know some Japanese fans knew about the censored CG before us!

And before people go off about "Ass shot = M rating?!", the worry was probably a change of content descriptor rather than a change in rating. And yes, the ESRB is totally a rating board that would say "X # of ass shots is okay, but X + 1 means you're getting changed to a Sexual Themes descriptor!" As for why Tharja, well, either she was the easiest to censor or someone took special liking offense to that ass.

Descriptors are a good idea, but it does seem kind of anal retentive to have this arbitrary limits. Especially as I think one ass is the same as a hundred for most people who'd have an issue.

I think people prefer restraint in the first place over censorship after the fact. Especially when it's essentially nitpicking on the ESRB's part.

I don't think this is particularly shameful from Nintendo.

American ratings boards just don't like ass for some reason. Tits are fine, heck, this Fire Emblem DLC has Cordelia with her jugs popping out even in America. It's weird.

I thought Fire Emblem was supposed to be a medieval strategy game where your units are individual characters in a greater conflict, but clearly I was mistaken. It's actually a visual novel where you try to get Tharja-San suggestively censored with various objects.

I get it!

so... what exactly happened between Radiant Dawn and Awakening regarding cringe worthy fan service design? FE used to be my go to series for pointing out (mostly) modest/reasonable/whatever female outfits

Well, Awakening WAS intended for more mass appeal...

honestly nintendo..
children can see boobs and asses everywhere with the click of a key on the tv remote, and not on any gravure chan, but on simple NORMAL tv, with soubrette and whatnot..
so really? censoring games? that's so 50s...

...Take it up with the ESRB?

I may get a lot of trash for this but honestly I think the US society as a whole is to blame for stuff like this. The US is widely regarded as overpuritan for sexual stuff, while you seem to have no problem at all with displaying images of people being mutilated or beheaded.

Europe/Japan:
Sex is OK, violence not so much

US:
Violence is OK, sex (at a minimum level) is definitely not OK

I guess. I just really dislike how Micaiah for example went from this

to this
Okay, I just need to ask: What is with all the body-stockings? I thought Fire Emblem was medieval fantasy or whatever, but now I'm seeing all these modern day body stockings.

Is it the artist's fetish or something?

Edit: I found it out. I find it kinda funny that we're still doing pallet swaps today, although I'm glad they're saving resources.

Technically I think the first Dark Mages encountered in FE:A would be in the service of Plegian Military, and Plegia is basically a giant desert wasteland. So I guess the body stockings are to cover from getting sunburns without being heavy enough to be problematic?

I mean the actual answer is fanservice but if you wanted anything beyond that . . .

Nintendo of America is such a prude.

Weren't the old characters designs for Awakening redone by guest illustrators? I honestly think most of them suck, but they're really just guests designs. I like the actual Awakening chara design.

she looks different to look more like how she is in Awakening where she is a different class. Raidant Dawn = Light Mage

Awakening = Sorceress.

It should be noted that almost every character who returns from a previous game in the series has their design changed to match the class they are given in Awakening. It's not just a thing they did to Mickey (they should have left her out of the game entirely, screw her and the entire Yawn Brigade).

It really shows in the 3D models in game, they more or less put an Avatar head on top of a generic unit's body.

So it's "The Ass ESRB Doesn't Want You To See" (Kotaku)

And on other news : Kotaku prefer asses confirmed too :o

It's not like it's that important but I'm glad to see EU once again don't censor things when it's unjustified.
