God of War 1 and its massive scope and vistas and its sweeping crowd clearing combat topped by its brutal no-nonsense story kicked off one of the biggest Playstation franchises.

The second game added more bosses and was hailed as a more refined version of the previous game, but came out very late in the PS2 lifecycle.

Chains of Olympus might have lacked some of the massive scope and sheen from its console brethren but was an excellent PSP version of God of War.

God of War III was one of the finest examples of a third-person action-adventure we ever saw in its first few hours before losing its luster later on.

The second PSP game, Ghost of Sparta, continued the strong example set by its predecessor.

Ascension was an okay prequel spin-off with a less interesting story and a multiplayer mode that didn't quite live up to the name but still had the same great presentation as its forbears.

God of War 2018 reinvented the franchise and is known as one of the best PS4 titles.

Poseidon and hades fights are some of the best ever.
Gow 2018 was ok for me. Tedious, not enough memorable bosses, and back and forth between location. Minus the sex mini game. So strictly inferior to 3.

Combat wise in my opinion GOW 2018 has the best one but original trilogy has more fun enemies and bosses you fight and for my personal taste I liked original trilogy's more fantastical aesthetics more than "grounded" look of GOW 2018.

Went with the first because the plot and overall character arc still made sense back then, and the game didn't start off from or ended in a cliffhanger.

GOW 2018 isn't even God of War for me, its just a completely different game wearing the IP's skin to boost sales and reviews.

Because he was outnumbered by the barbarians and Alrik (the Barbarian king) was not some normal man either. He was a chosen champion of Hades and may as well have been a demigod himself with the way he effortlessly wielded that war hammer which was as big as himself. That thing likely weighed 500 lbs.

Kratos actually fought Alrik three times.

-He beat him before the events of GoW1 in the Dark Horse comics one on one.

-He was on the verge of getting killed by Alrik in GoW1's flashback scenes.

-And obviously he beat Alrik once and for all in GoW2 when the latter came back as a revenant.

God of War 2018 for unironic game quality and story maturity.

God of War 3 for INSANE crease factor value. The entire old series has you crying laughing the entire time and the gameplay is kinda bad on the low. Enemies with no hit stun? Bruh. Really did like the moment of Kratos being invested in Pandora it was VERY surprising he was like that over her.

Gonna vote GoW 2018 but I am curious how many GoW 2018 shills have actually played them all.

1, 2 and 3 are all level for me. I also loved the PSP entries and Ascension, although not quite as much as the trilogy.

2018 is a significant step below them all for me.

If I had to give it to just one though, man that's tough. 3 has the spectacle, 2 is a lengthy and varied adventure, but the original still stands out as having the best narrative and was just phenomenal overall. I think I'd pick the first.

I think 2018 for several reasons. One of them being that it's the one who innovated the most in the genre, adding more narrative elements integrating them super well in the gameplay. It also offers a certain open world-ish freedom being able to choose between different interconnected branches of the map. Regarding combat, it got stuff from other genres like the souls games, giving the game a more unique take inside the genre while also opening it to people from other genres like the souls.

And well, everything is super polished and top notch.

Then I don't know how you could repeat a point that was wrong.

Kratos was outnumbered and Alrik himself was never just an ordinary man.

And there are tons of demi gods in Greek myth and most of them are nowhere CLOSE to mythically powerful like Hercules was.

Perseus was another famous demi god son of Zeus and he was never hyper powerful. Just very brave, skilled and resourceful.

Kratos was always intended by Jaffe to be a son of Zeus and he fully intended for there to be sequels, he just wasn't sure the first game would be popular enough to warrant sequels. That's why it ended open ended the way it did.

So no, your points are simply not accurate.

Best GOW 3. That start. Great specticals all the way through. The world scaling. You felt small in this world but powerful.

Worse GOW accension. Still can't work out the new fighting mechanics on this one. If it ain't broke....

Overrated GOW 2018. Another game that had all the fun bled out of it by post-TLOU. It needs to be serious, grounded. Get fucked, give me back the mad torturing bastard that is kretos, not guilt ridden grumpy dad.
