McCoy is one of the only people who could actually talk shit to Kirk and not get his ass beat. Thats all that needs to be said. The God of Trek James T Kirk had that much respect for McCoy so we all should

FAIL

It's obviously Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Picard, and Data.

Man I hate they never really got to interact in Generations (or something else).

Oh yeah, Epic Geordi and Barclay

Quark and Barclay and Data and Worf and Geordi...

Also, Wil Wheaton is awesome. I wish he still did reviews of horrible TNG episodes for TVSquad. Don't know why he stopped.

Also, the guy met WILLIAM FUCKING SHATNER! :lol

My favourite line from Worf is the episode where Keiko gives birth in Ten Forward, and the only person she has to help is Worf. I can't remember the exact dialogue, but it went something like this -

Keiko: "Do you know what you're doing??"
Worf (emphatically): "Yes. …No."

Ok yes but a close second is "I am not a merry man!" :lol

Gul Dukat's sooo top tier, i mean he has that cheezy combo with the Occupation forces!
Not as cheap as with Sisko and the Prophets. He can make his enemies disappear!

You're responding to a person who listed Leeta as one of his favorite characters.

Just saying.
And you apparently can't read. She was an "okay" character. Never said she was a favorite of mine.

Just saying.

Garak is hard to argue against. I don't blame you for making the choice. There are a lot of characters in Star Trek, narrowing down the best of the best would be pretty hard.

Ah, what the hell. I'll try! Of course, in no particular order.

From this point on, my annotations are in brackets

Tier 1 - (The Best of the Best) (Should be "GODS OF TREK")

- Captain Sisko (agreed)

- Miles O'Brien (agreed)
- Reginald Barclay (agreed)
- The Doctor (agreed)
- Data (agreed)
- Worf (agreed)
- Weyoun (agreed)
- Damar (Belongs in Tier 1.5 as not consistently excellent)

- Jadzia Dax (Low Tier 2 but she's in)
- Enabren Tain (agreed)
- Vic Fontaine (agreed)
- Major Kira (agreed)
- Quark (Agreed, high Tier 2)

Tier 3 (Good)

- Torres (Tier 8)

My ammendments. Solid list and its of course open to debate. Maybe we should do this properly and Tier all the characters.

The fact you felt it necessary to mention such an obscure, and unimportant bit character like Leeta in a thread like this, is indicative of a lot of things.

You can't have a best Star Trek character list without mentioning James Tiberius Kirk. Garak is a good choice for runner up.

Chakotay should get a fancy "Thanks for Participating" award. It wasn't his fault the wrtiers decided to totally ignore the character for 7 seasons. He could have been Riker, only not lame.

Ela Hadrun

Probably plays more games than you
Barclay? He was funny. But he's not a character on the level of Spock.

I love Garak but I really think Spock should win. The character of Spock basically introduced philosophy to anyone too young to be a baby boomer.

I'd replace Barclay with McCoy, but fuck yes at your #1. I love Garak, he's a step above any other Trek character, and part of the numerous supporting cast members that make DS9 my favorite series.

Adding a Tier. 1.5 and putting Bashir and Damar there... I agree with that. Good idea.

For Spock, Kirk and McCoy, maybe they would be in Tier 1 if I hadn't started with TNG and grew up on '90s Trek. I guess it depends on who you watched first.

For Captain Janeway, the rest of the Voyager crew, and Enterprise... Tier 7 and 8?:lol Maybe it's my fanboy feelings for Star Trek, but I wouldn't place them that low. I don't know.

However, as I said in the post, there are a lot of characters and I forgot two: Lwaxana and Ezri. I definitely liked them more than Leeta... so, put them both in the "good" column?

I also forgot Kasidy Yates. I'd place her in the "good" column.

Problem with Q, is (with the exception of all good things) the character became more goofy and less threatening with every appearance in the franchise.

DrForester said:

For Voyager, The Doctor is in Tier 1, so that didn't include him. Phlox was pretty good. I haven't seen the episodes in awhile, but I remember two particular episodes about him: one in which Phlox had a patient that didn't want to be treated, and the other about disrupting the natural course of evolution on a planet with two sentient species.

Not sure where to place Q. As Dr. Forest said, he got more goofier and less threatening with each appearance.

I think they are both good candidates for Tier 3. I always quite liked Lwaxana, and not just for the obvious Picard comedy - her appearances in DS9 in particular were charming, and "Half-a-Life" did tremendous good to her character. Ezri is High-3 I think, if she'd had more time to grow on me she'd probably be a 2.

Voyager characters don't develop or change or, well, do anything. They aren't interesting or even human in their emotions or responses. They laugh together cheesily at the end of episodes. Seven, The Doctor, Tuvok, and Lon Suter are the only ones I could even begin to rank.

Tuvok was totally neutral to me. He tried to be Spock, nothing more, nothing less. He didn't do great at it, and he didn't suck at it. It was "hey look, we have a Vulcan, WOOHOO!"

I forgot about Suter. Suter was short lived, but he burned brightly. I have the same feelings about Ezri: she only had one season, so the writers did what they could. I mean, Jadzia wasn't that great in season one, and it took about a season and a half (or two season) to figure out who she was.

I know this isn't a popular opinion, but I always liked Neelix. I know he's annoying to others, but he never bothered me. My favorite episode of Neelix was definitely "Mortal Coil."

Kak.efes said:
Not even worth mentioning, as stated. You're such a massive DS9 fanboy, it's ridiculous.
Look, I just managed to remember her. I like Kassidy, Lwaxana, and Ezri a lot more than her, but I forgot about them. As I said, there a lot of characters, and she was someone I managed to remember.

Fan, no. I'd consider myself a DS9 fan. "Fan boy," yeah. I think quite a few DS9 characters are ranked too high. Vic Fontaine? I hated those episodes. Nog was obnoxious too.

I don't think I want to go any further than that. I haven't seen Enterprise in so long, I've forgotten most of the main cast.

Without them, there is no Star Trek.

I'm ignoring Dax01's youth and naivete and agreeing with you.

I can't find three better characters in the annals.

Especially motherfuckin' McCoy:

Here's something new.

Best one shot character on star trek? No more than 1 appearance (no movie villains/characters)

Annorax (VOY, Year of Hell)
Yelgrun (DS9, Those Magnificent Ferengi)
The Non-Sucky Harry Kim From The Future (VOY, Timeless)
Kevin Uxbridge (TNG, The Survivors)
The Guardian of Forever (TOS, City on the Edge of Forever)
Goran'Agar (DS9, Hippocratic Oath)
Aamin Marritza (DS9, Duet)

I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

Good idea!

Hmmm...

TOS - Mirror Spock
TNG - Dr Soong
DS9 - Leck: The Ferengi "Eliminator"
Voyager - Annorax

That's not definite, just not really considered the question before. Might come back to that list...

Leck (was going to put him) and Soong (if we count the hologram) appeared twice :)

Ha! Got two:

Amen Marritza (DS9, Duet)
Gul Madred (TNG, Chain of Command)

And for the list: I also forgot to put Khan and Sisko's father. Damn. Khan I would place in upper Tier 2 or Tier 1.5, and I would put Sisko's father in Tier 3. I also forgot about Ghemor.

Don't worry about it! I can't believe I forgot about Khan! And Kai Winn! If you made a list similar to mine (would like to see yours) you probably would've remembered a lot more characters.

Trelane (TOS, The Squire of Gothos)

Great Character

BorkBork

The Legend of BorkBork: BorkBorkity Borking
I'm going to restrict the list to main characters only.

TOS: no point. Holy trinity of Kirk, Spock and McCoy

TNG:
1.) Picard
2.) Data
3.) Worf

These three characters carried the show, and Patrick Stewart really is too good for Trek.

DS9:
1.) Kira
2.) Sisko
3.) O'Brien

Kira is my favorite character in Trek lore. Her initial character development in the first and second seasons are excellent. She gets shafted in the middle of the series, but really returns to form by the end. Her full circle arc of fighting against and FOR Cardassians as a terrorist is brilliant.

The axiom is, in any episode, put Kira in, and it will in all probability be watchable, if not excellent.

Brook's Sisko is really good, though he does overact on occasion (along with Visitor), and Meaney's just such a good solid actor that O'Brien episodes are always great.

Voyager:
1.) The Doctor
2.) Seven
3.) Janeway

Whatever.

Enterprise:
1.) Phlox maybe.
Don't care enough to finish the list.

Great list and I tend to agree with Garak being the best character, but no mention of Data makes me want to say fail. For shame.
