The Expanse Season 5 returns on December 15 and airs weekly. This season is going to be incredible.

A lot of people felt season 4 was slow, personally I loved it, but book 5 is on a whole other level compared to 4. Looks like it’s time to start a rewatch.

I am not sure how I feel on the weekly format. I usually binge each season in a day or two. The more I think about it the more I’m warming up to the idea. Each episode is very dense and it could be good to have a week between each one.

I’ve only watched season one and it felt like it just dragged on and on, I’m going to continue watching it though because it is so highly regarded and I heard it gets better.

Season 1 is by far the weakest but keep in mind this is a space opera through and through. While there are aliens and all the wild stuff expected the show relies on the political narrative and its characters to tell the story. Some people I know are turned off by that and want something more like The Mandalorian, which this show is not.

Have had the expanse in my que for ahwile but other streaming services tend to take priority since I pay for them.

How sci fi we talking for this one?
Bruh..... I don't want to over hype this.... Let me preface by stating the following is my opinion.

The Expanse is the potentially the best Sci-fi I have ever scene. Currently that goes to Battlestar:Galactica even with their trash ending. The show has been on an incredible run with every season getting stronger and the expectations for season 5 are sky high. The book its based on is the best in the series so far. (I have only read 5 of the 9 books currently)

The first season is a bit slow and I always tell people to give it at least 5 episodes. It has a unique cyber detective vibe that kind of sets the wrong tone for the show overall. Also, keep in mind that every season gets better so if you think Season 1 is just okay keep watching.

One last thing, this show has been called "GoT in space" which in a sense is true, because it has a heavy political drama narrative running through it. Some people like their SciFi more inline with Star Wars or The Orville. Nothing wrong with that but this show is not that type.

Awesome. I've held back on watching season 4 because I felt the end of 3 was a natural break point and wanted to do 4 and 5 back to back. Looks like it's time to get back on it. :)

and yeah, based on first 3 seasons it's my fave show right now

I've only seen Season 1, and wasn't as impressed as others. Doesn't compare to the first season of Battle Star Galactica for example.

Also - did they ever fix the audio-mixing? Season 1 was so muffled I couldn't tell what they were saying half the time, and eventually resorted to sub-titles.

Season 3 was the end of the first 3-book arc in the series so glad it felt like a good ending point. Season 4 is the start of the new story arc and the ending of Season 4 is *Chef's Kiss*. It has made waiting for season 5 terrible.

Forgive this question as it might be super dumb but I am not that familiar wit sci-fi. Hows it compare to Star Trek Discovery?

I cant comment on this because I have yet to watch Star Trek Discovery and don't think I will. I will say that The Expanse more aligns with Star Trek than Star Wars. It is more "scientific" and less fantasy. Most technology in the show and books is plausible. This is one of the reasons I prefer this show to anything else out currently.

Here a super fan debates the travel time because the authors incorrectly mathed out the acceleration in the series. https://expanse.fandom.com/wiki/Travel_Time Authors admitted it was a goof but kept the acceleration speed to be consistent throughout the whole series.

Another thing the show admits is that they add sound to space ships for dramatic effect. It's these little details the authors, and producers bring up that no other show does.

Hope it was The Expanse before I clicked.
Not sure if it's the best show, but I enjoy it a lot. Not much to choose from when it comes to space sci-fi anyway.

I keep thinking I need to give this another shot, the one time I did I fell asleep during the pilot.

I started watching The Expanse a couple weeks ago. Got through season one in a few days and I enjoyed it, but fell off a bit after starting the second season. I'll probably keep watching, but the pull isn't there for me.

I only got up to the end of Season 2.

Great show. Season 2 was better than the first. I need to catch up one day.

I'm a bit worried. Amazon greenlit a final 6th season, yet there are still a lot of books to go through.. It will end rushed and with an original story like GoT. :messenger_fearful:

Currently every season is roughly one book besides season 1. The finished up the end of book one in the first part of season 2.

The series has 3 different arcs each 3 books long. Books 1-3, Books 4-6, and books 7-9. Amazon has greenlit to the end of the second story arc and the shows popularity continues to grow.

Tell your friends to watch if you want the final story arc which will be season 7-9.

Book 1 takes a season and a half, book 2 is the second half of season 2 and the first half of season 3, the last 6 episodes of season 3 are book 3 very condensed and then season 4 is book 4

There's a lot of worldbuilding to do, but I couldn't stop watching it after episode 3 and 4.

I only watched season 1 and dropped it. So hokey and ugly. Perhaps what came after is entirely different but it was quite a disappointment.
