The Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 |OT| (XBLA/PSN)

Hey guys, the store text for Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 on the PSN says that "You must log into the Playstation Network each time to play this game." That sure sounds like the way they did the online-only Final Fight PSN, too.

I'll be passing on this one on principle. I never would've bought Final Fight if they'd told me upfront, and this time they did.

Ooh, for F*ck's sake Capcom. I thought they said they wouldn't be doing this sh*t again?

Payed the first couple of levels. Pretty fun, but like the first game, i can't seem to figure out the grapple mechanic. It never quite seems to do what i want it to do. Anyone else feel like this, or do I just suck at this game?

I had no problems in the first game. I thought it controlled perfect

Took the plunge. Controls seem a lot more loose than BC:R. I don't really like the stop and start swing mechanic, and mixed with the loose controls this results in a lot of botched grabs.

Also, why can't I map my own controls? The jump is useless and given that there is a stat/trophy for finishing levels by not jumping, having it on X(A) just results in me pressing it accidently and thus ruining an entire level run.

The various perks seem like they could be cool, though I have only found a few.

The first few levels are pretty straight forward design-wise but get you into some fairly advanced mechanics quickly. Though on Normal the enemies seem very passive, and there seem to be fewer of them on average than BC:R.

The music is o.k. thus far, but nothing as good as BC:R. The writing also seems much crappier than the first.

All in all, I like it so far, but really wish the swing mechanic had not been changed and that I could remap the jump and grapple buttons.

Nope no problem here. Even with he slightly changed swing mechanic I am swinging through some of the stuff in no time.

@the_prime_mover I have no idea what you are talking about when you talk about loose controls.

Where do i get the grenades in level 2 so i can get through the section with stone blocks?

Last night I played level 2, found the grenades, but then turned off the system. This morning i am playing it again but can't find those damn grenades anywhere, and am stuck on level 2.
Grenades are on level 1. Check your upgrades to see if you still have them. You can destroy stone blocks with death from above and explosive barrels.

Eh, though it is a pretty bad move on Capcom's part, I'm always connected to PSN and Ill never play this game again after I beat it. Really not much of a problem for me, but I can see where there is cause for concern.

Are there at least control presets available? I could not use the default scheme in the original, but it allowed you to change this. :\

Wow, this is really good. Played for an hour and a half or so and am enjoying this a lot. Jumping feels weird at first, but it only took a few minutes for me to get used to it. Love the variety in the levels and the music is great as expected, although not yet as great as that in the original.

Well I guess I won´t be buying this then.

The music is pretty sweet AND the swing mechanics DO NOT FEEL NEW. Fun game but I can't beat the first boss lol

In short, the swing mechanics sucks more than I remember. Why can't it be a little more gravity based instead of this pre-baked line of sorts. The curve to master is higher and it doesn't respond like it should all the time. I bought the PSN version so to all the negative people about the DRM - I, like most of us, am on and connected all the time.

Does that mean only the purchasing profile can play it? Even on the one system it was purchased on?

The profile doesn't matter. That's why I don#t get the complaints personally. My PS3 is always connected to the net.

It's still sharable lol

You just have to be online which I guess we are all connected to GAF all the time and not PS3's.

For whatever reason you like to keep harping on it, the argument of "Well everyone should be connected, it works fine for me, it should work fine for all!" is really annoying.

A lot of us surf GAF with our PC, not our PS3. And you trying to act like you know everyone's setup for internet connections is incredibly short-sighted.

You can be ok with the DRM and not care since it doesn't affect you in a negative way, whatever. But to act like everyone else should share your viewpoint and should just get over it is insulting. Because, surprise, not everyone is like you. Like how I'm not affected by activation limits on PC games. I'm not ever annoyed and have to deal with it, but I don't try to put down people that do.

It sucks and defending DRM like which hurts certain consumers is ugh.

didn't care about sharing, was worried about other local profiles not being able to play the game on my system. At least it's not as bad as Final Fight I guess. Still is lame.

I understand the complaints, but I do find it odd that people would regularly use their PS3 without an active internet connection. What situation are you in that prevents you from doing this?

My wireless goes terrible sometimes, and it gets to the point where I don't bother to try and connect to PSN. Trying to figure out the best way to reorganize my apartment to get it wired, but the best setup for me is in the works.

And for reference, I have a friend that sticks to his smartphone for his internet browsing. He doesn't pay for an internet connection since he has no use for it due to his phone, so he brings his PS3 to a friend's to download something he wants off PSN, then plays it at his place. So obviously, he can't play this game.

He brings his PS3 elsewhere to download games? Wow. I can't imagine that being common at all, but it does suck for him.

Oh, misread that, sorry.

I do agree that the DRM in place is worse than better. But I'm not really against anyone if they think otherwise of my own opinion. Maybe it was a little shortsighted to assume that no one has internet on all the time but I would think a lot of people who are online with their PS3 are either A)Behind a home network via router (me) or B)Directly connected/wireless based. I find it hard to see the average PS3 owner using their internet mainly for their PS3. It leads me to believe that the large majority of us are nitpicking to fight the bad DRM. I do agree that it should not be there but it didn't stop me from having doubts about getting on PS3. If I would have known before, I still would have bit.

It would be common if, say, I were to lose internet for a week. Under the normal circumstances, I would avoid using the wireless from too far a distance as is. I knew even before I started paying for my own cable internet (about 10 years ago) that I would need to be behind a network to accommodate the ever growing connected devices. I have 3 wireless and 4 wired devices. I can't be the only one with 1 console or 1 handheld right? At the very least you have 1 of each so you either need the router for wireless or for wired console multi-connections.

Ah FML, forgot to edit this into my last post.

This is what my cousin does. He brings his PS3 to his parents house on the weekend in order to download stuff off PSN since he doesn't have internet at his place yet.

=/ Not sure about purchase. I beat the original 20+ years ago but I sucked at Re-armed. Could not finish it and it's my only game with zero achievements. Too bad as I loved the original but I'm sucking at some of these old school games as I get older.

Wanted to get it for PS3 but this kills the deal for me. Loved the NES version, liked Rearmed 1 on the 360, but wanted to use the Dual Shock for this. Thanks for nothing, Capcom. This is also why I didn't buy Final Fight.

There's a room in the 1st level right when you get the grenades that has a wall that can be destroyed by the bazooka, but the bazooka is behind the wall? Is that a mis-worded upgrade or something I wonder?

downloading demo, I enjoyed the first one.
Was pretty shocked at the 1.4GB size, why is it so big?

Because it's so awesome.

I am shocked this thread is still this small. The one for the first Rearmed was way bigger. Were all those people scared off by the old school gameplay?

i had no fucking clue that this was even out. guess that's what a neogaf ban does to a man.

guess i'll be d/ling this in the next few days!

It's been three years. I loved BC:R and I'm mildly interested at best in this one.

It is pretty good despite my gripe with the grapple. I just can't beat that first boss. And the music is lovely.

$15
Jumping
Sequel
PSN DRM

That's why I'm not buying it. Bought BCR day 1.

I'm shocked it even took this long for an OT. Partially might be Cap's fault however, because even though I planned on getting this day 1, I had no idea it was coming out until I saw the PSN Store thread yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised.

Only played about 20 minutes last night, but I like the game way better than the first already. Jumping just makes the game feel more fluid and I like the new swing mechanics.

Hopefully, the last stage isn't a retarded piece of shit like the last game's was, while maintaining the challenge. The airship stopped me from finishing the game, not because it was hard, but because it was frustratingly tedious with way too much trial and error.

did anyone with the psn version tried to play the game without being online?

because this would be a dealbreaker, if it isnt possible.

the outside portion is no longer in the game on normal since that last patch.

what?? They completely removed the outside of the albatross? Is it still accessible someway?

on hard as far as I recall

- I'm also not sure if this patch ever came to the 360 version

lmao, really? I was expecting a response along the lines "you just needed to get better, scrub!", but I guess I really wasn't the only one that thought that portion was unfun and stupid.

Downloading.. Hoping it's not quite as frustrating as the first, because that was one of the very few games that I somewhat enjoyed but never finished.
