If you're going to genderswap James Bond (I'm not the biggest fan of swaps for named characters if your sole/primary purpose is representation but I'm not going to argue its some unholy crime against fiction LOL) how do you go about it? The biggest issues I'd think is that no person would name their daughter James so you'd have to change the name and at that point its no longer James Bond. You can still keep the 007 moniker of course but does that fit the goals of those who so want to swap James? Also since James sexuality has always been a big part of his character, if a female takes the role do you replace Bond girls with Bond boys? Do you keep Bond girls and make this character gay or bi? I'd think both could work but I figure some people have strong preferences among these choices.

now you know how we feel during the anime phase.

Nigga brought cups and complain he can't take home a plate

Was that a dig at me? :p

I dunno, he's still a pretty shitty person in Casino Royale. He does seduce that woman for information and leave her to get murdered after all.

EDIT: I'd argue that that more than anything is inherent to his character. Bond is a piece of shit, it's just that he's aimed at people who are supposed to be worse.

Casino Royale is the only Bond movie I've ever watched and I swear down it's a chick flick. Long looks at Bond's abs as he rises out of the ocean. A legit romance. I had a great time.

And it would be nice to have a spy adventure movie that was original and had a black lead and black supporting characters...that wasn't a parody or satire. But frankly I don't care if PoC are in originals or swaps or whatever. Just as long as more PoCs get more roles, both in front of and behind the camera (fuck you, Matt Damon).

Of all races I feel like black people would best be prepared to accept a female James Bond, basing this on all the boss-ass, bad bitch, female playa-pimps I know.

Apparently kids out here doing senior pranks of stealing bras off girls at school. Teach consent and good reasonings early

Even though consent is a big part of it, it's not the main component.

Stop teaching boys to glorify women as objects of conquest. That's the problem right there. As long as boys are raised to believe they deserve a gold star when a pretty girl so much as looks at them, this will always be a problem.

Swapping Bond is pretty much an admission that we're in a totally new era of Bond at this point. You can argue that's happened with each change of actor or the end of the Cold War, but certain tenants of what Bond represented have persisted. Craig Bond (and to a certain extent Dalton Bond) was an attempt to get back to Ian Flemming's original character, who is probably a product of his era. Not just the Cold War, but probably also the tail end of British Imperialism. I remember hearing arguments that pretty soon you'd have to start doing period pieces for Bond to make sense as he currently is. Craig himself admitted today's men can't learn a single damn thing from Bond.

Swapping out Bond's gender or race I think is a final admission that the character as Ian Flemming envisioned him needs to be put to rest once and for all, that his time has passed. At that point, what do you make Bond represent? Do you essentially write a new character with the same brand?

Where you're from - Born in San Francisco, lived in Germany, and Delaware before settling down in Stone Mountain, Georgia when I was in 4th grade. Consider myself from Atlanta.
Where you live - I live in Lawrenceville, GA
What is your age? - Just turned 40. Yeah I'm old, but it's a good thing Black don't Crack.
Your cultural heritage, lineage and genealogy - I'm Black American, with lineage that includes some White American (more than likely massa's handiwork) and Native American on my Father's side, and my Mother is half Black American and Japanese. However my immediate family all look the same.
Do you know your roots - I watched Roots if that's any help. They did my nigga Kinta Kunte wrong. Oh and I look forward to the upcoming adaptation. Seriously tho, my father grew from out of the Black power movement in the 70's, so I was raised in a very pro black household especially at a time when the art also reflected it.
Favorite musical genre - Contemporary R&B/Hip Hop
Your profession/major/career interest - Sr. Technical Recruiter/Mass Communications/desire to create an all black role playing videogame through a black american lens.
Your religious affiliation - Atheist with reverence to the historical and cultural significance of The Black Church within America. I love gospel music.
Hobbies - Video games, women, sports, music, books, battle rap, talking shit
KFC, Popeye's, Churches, or Bojangles? - It's chicken. I'm genetically predisposed to liking all of it, although I don't think I've ever had Bojangles.

WHO MISSED ME?
It's 14 year olds lurking? If you 14 and lurking go outside and speak to some people.

I fucked around and got into with my Italian neighbor, realized we hate each other but his daughter looks wild smangable (SHE 21+). Now I'm in a rather unique position of *EDIT* or wanting to increase unity for the diaspora.

It's a kind of performance of heterosexual interest, sure, but it's still a performance. I think you have to go deeper than that; you have to address the connection between masculine insecurity and heteronormative posturing. These kinds of behaviors aren't done in order to get the girl; they are inspired by and done for the benefit of male peers.

Also, hi BCT.

Video Killed the Radio Star on "The 80's" (CNN) Is a really good episode. They didn't shy away from MTV's old racist asses during that era, and what it took to kick that particular door in.

In a word....yes. Or at the very least, figure out what the traits that define Bond - cunning, suave, toughness, etc - look like when they appear on a woman or man of color (or woman of color). The character simply doesn't resonate in the same way anymore. Skyfall, I believe, almost directly addresses this, showing Bond at his weakest. He was old, constantly outsmarted, and many scenes show that his way of doing things doesn't work anymore. It literally opens with him dying. I look at Craig's comment and I think he knows the character's time has passed. Which is why he's walking away.

But the brand still has some worth and Hollywood does like it's familiarity. In this modern world, and Asian Bond or Janet Bond as played by Tessa Thompson might be the way to breathe new life into the franchise.
