Lack of Personality in Level design 🤣

"techno music" 🤣
Bro which Astro Bot did you play

Literally every single Level has a different level design. Like literally no level looks like the other in the game. This gotta be a troll post. There's no "techno chipmunk" music in astro bot.
Yeah. I like my platformer levels to be more than just obstacle courses.

WTF do you call this genre of auditory sludge that remixes disco to hell with interjections of robot noises? I sure as hell do not know but it reminds me of Alvin and The Chipmunks in this instance.

I mean, that bad, he was should had just kept this to himself. But I do believe Astro bot shouldn’t had won it. There was nothing in thoughts it would had won. It was just the safe one I guess

So what did he actually say?

Edit I DeepL'd that shit:
TGA awards has been the past day, the wrong peak out to say a few words from the heart, thinking that may be useful to some friends, after all, yesterday did not have the opportunity to go on stage to say [doge].

1
The awards coincided with the release of a fairly big update for us. For me personally, this is the official end of a project that took seven years.

Black Myth: Goku's four award nominations (Best Action Game, Best Art Direction, Best Gameplay Direction, and Game of the Year) were all firsts for China. It was a relief to finally get Best Action and Gamer's Voice, especially picking up Gamer's Voice.

But it must be admitted that there are losses, regrets, and more often than not, letting go of illusions.

This year's shortlisted games are excellent, but I really do not understand the selection criteria of the game of the year is what, I fucking came for nothing!

2
I've also seen a strong sense of dissatisfaction in many of the comments made by gamers between yesterday and now, and I've seen resentment and upset - mostly expressed with humour and deconstruction, and laughing my arse off.

I can completely understand these resentments and empathise with these upsets because I know that behind these emotions are not pain and malice, but self-esteem and confidence.

It's normal to be a little grumpy when you're so confident but not recognised by others.

I'm actually ...... more confident than you guys (refer to my first answer in Zhihu), the speech of the year game on stage was written two years ago, actually did not use [bitter] [bitter] [bitter] [bitter] [bitter] [bitter]

During the development of this game, many of my colleagues were not as optimistic as I was. They may have played too many intermediate versions, and inevitably felt that the game still had too many flaws and was unlikely to go live on time.

One of my main jobs at the company is to keep reassuring them that we've done a great job and that the product is improving all the time.

Yes, you can't be confident only when you've already won.

That's not confidence, that's a repeat of the results.

If you lose today, you may still lose tomorrow, but so what?

The factors that affect the outcome are so complex that the outcome is necessarily uncertain. The only thing we can be sure of is choosing what we're doing-

Doing specific things, doing difficult things, doing things that you believe in.

In doing these, of course, one should be confident.

3
Some people say that the fact that the first single-player game made by a team that has never made a single-player before has achieved such success is a small chance of chance, and will be hard to replicate in the future.

I want to say that this is not a chance, this is a Chinese culture, Chinese talent, China's business environment, China's game industry, and the world's players together with the inevitable results of the collision.

If we hadn't seen this ‘inevitable’ earlier, we wouldn't have been so determined to make this choice. It's not a gamble, it's just going with the flow.

Game Science is honoured to participate in and witness the beginning of this ‘trend’, and I believe that in the future there will be more peers to bring the world a better, more interesting and more confident Chinese story.

4
There is a saying that almost everyone knows, but many people don't know that it comes from the Journey to the West.

There is nothing difficult in the world, but only those who have the will to do it.

In my understanding, this saying does not mean that any difficulty can be conquered if one is willing. Rather, it means that with the mindset of rising to the occasion, then difficulties and failures are not so scary, they won't easily defeat you. A life that is comfortable with unavoidable difficulties is also a more solid life.

It's fun because it's hard.

5
Why is it called the science of play?

When we decide to use mathematics, physics, and the basic science and engineering derived from it to analyse and solve specific problems, without metaphysics, without apotheosis, without reversing the cause and effect, then we can truly level the playing field in this complex world, and see what is so great about the opponents who are so far ahead of us.

If someone does not mention the specific problem, do not talk about arguments and logic, but asserted that a thing is very difficult water is very deep, you should perhaps test his partial differential.

Science is not truth, science is the pursuit of truth in a practical manner.

6
The fact is, it's a very lucky group of people who get to make and play games.

There are still a lot of people in this world who simply don't have the opportunity to play the so-called 3A games, there are a lot of people who have never used a mainframe and a computer, there are a lot of people who feel uncertainty, pain and even despair about the current situation, and there are a lot of people who are suffering from misery and injustice.

I think the more this happens, the more we have to create better games and content that makes more people feel truth, goodness and beauty.

I've always believed that the greatest value of a good game is that it makes the distribution of happiness in this world more equitable.

The road is still long, the wind is still evil, and the demon king is still arrogant, but we keep getting stronger.

7
Finally, I hope that this story of the Black Myth can give some people who are still in a daze a little bit of courage, so that more people who are still groping in the dark see a little bit of light, and then continue to move forward with a normal heart.

I hope that everyone can continue to be confident and ambitious, remain brave, honest and kind, do every concrete small thing, openly accept the uncertainty of the results, and continue to walk on the path of the scriptures until the last moment of life.

As Hemingway said: the world is beautiful and worth fighting for.

another MP1st hit piece and you guys fall for it feet first..

Taken from BMW subs

« The original article was humorous, relaxing, soothing, respectful and self-reflecting throughout, but a few translations (like that "freaking nothing" sentence) failed to convey the joking and self-mocking tone, and accidentally portrayed Feng Ji as being bitter. I've seen many got misled in the comment section. Dangerous mistranslations like these can make him a crisis! »

Again with peoples badly interpreting the language. FFS, you fall into the same baits that the REEe crowd used for sexual allegations on game science.

I figured the part where he said he made his acceptance speech 2 years ago wasn't meant to be taken seriously. I never trust all those machine translations.

Yeah aint gonna believe any sort of western translation of this ever from any western outlet since western media have been going on hit pieces of these devs to make their image bad even before the game launched.

Wukong is a really good game. Loved the lore and loved the ambition. But it lacked polish. Those modes on PS5 on launch were bad, especially that pseudo-performance with frame-gen.

Astro Bot wasn’t the most overtly ambitious game. But it was extremely well made, had a lot of polish and felt technically advanced with the physics items. It also lacks a lot of the bullshit that is present in modern gaming (the only thing it has is a Deluxe version). The game doesn’t even have a “quality vs performance” modes. I think Astro Bot deserved the award because it shows restraint, something sorely lacking in today’s gaming world. Where other devs think they needs 400 Million budgets, 3000 employees, 9 years of dev time, be a forever game (GaaS), Unreal 5+ and reinvent the wheel with each new entry with realism and complex systems. Astro Bot has a straightforward direction, it builds up from their two previous titles (Rescue Mission and Playroom). And even though the game might not resonate with “GaMeRz” it does have a more widespread appeal.

That said, I saw a post in the purple forum saying that Astro Bot was a win for the non-binary community. Now, I don’t know what is real anymore. But that take was the most idiotic one I’ve seen so far.

Yikes 😬 I can tell by this Post alone, you don't actually play a lot of platformers if at all. I'm not kidding when I say that 98% of them are about obstacle courses, that's what makes them Platformers my guy. It's literally what defines the genre in 2D or 3D, to overcome the obstacle courses 🥶

That would be like me saying this about Halo
"I would like for shooters not to constantly shoot other enemies in my fov, while evading their projectiles"

You calling that theme chipmunk techno, is like calling King Bowsers theme of SM64 soft metal, like wtf are you talking about?

The good ones have world building and environmental story telling built-in on top of the platforming challenges.

Some of these replies are crazy even after several people cleared it up...

Anyways... even if it was accurate, there is nothing wrong with feeling frustration or having that confidence. It can just be viewed as fuel for an even better game next time.

For me Bmw on PC is a complete experience where as Astrobot is a cute nice game. When I’ve played astrobot it never made me gasp or blow my mind like a goty candidate would. BG3 Helldivers BMW all have that it factor that feel fresh and new.

I’m not mad or anything I think game awards are a joke and giving it to astrobot pretty much solidifies my opinion the award means nothing.

I held off on buying the game, because I was waiting to be in the mood for it. But yikes, this is a major turn off for me. What a baby. Maybe it's a culture thing, but I wonder if he doesn't understand how absolutely cringe and shameful it looks to be a sore loser for not winning at an award ceremony.

You smile, clap, and save you frustrations in private.

I find it insane that we are giving basic platfomers like astro awards while dismissing real games like black myth and silent hill 2. even if you disliked black myth, its insane to compare it to astrobot. just like how its insane to compare balatro to astrobot. one is a real game with levels, while the other is solitare. do we not have any standards anymore?

if astro redefined the platforming genre like super mario 64 did back in the 90s then id understand but its a rather safe and formulaic sequel. You simply cant compare AAA games like FF7 Rebirth, Black Myth and Silent Hill 2 to a game like astrobot. it should have its own separate section like the Oscars do for cartoons or short films.
Jesus, this shit is just sad. I

They definitely deserved the win.

A no name 7 hour platformer that isn't Mario is not worthy of GOTY in a year this packed with greatness.

Astrobot has fun, free game of the month written all over it. Barely any effect to the current gaming cultural zeitgeist other than some onlookers say 'aww that's kinda cute'

I asked ChatGPT to give me the worst take in gaming and it spit this out. You have used AI to discuss games here.

Apologize, sir.

First time I've ever heard of people behind a GOTY nominee expressing themselves in this manner.

I get the feeling though, it's gotta be tough pouring all your time into your work in the way some devs do. Idk, it's a bit wierd to see it as some kind of defeat/close but no cigar because being nominated for GOTY is usually a huge seal of approval in of itself.

Most of the games nominated for GOTY are truly great, a specific game winning or not winning the award itself is usually somewhat neglible in my eyes because they're all usually worth buying/playing.
