The Black Culture Thread |OT2|

Did she really say this or is this typical GAF string-grasping.?

I'll admit that was the first I heard, but that didn't stop me from grasping at threads like bungee cords and taking a flying leap out of the helicopter with them.

I'm wrong, and that's fine. I just know too many girls from the islands, blacker than me, but they aren't black.

There's a documentary about black heritage in places like The Dominican Republic and Haiti. I forget the name of it but I'm sure someone here knows what I'm talking about.

The reluctance of some to accept that they're black is something else. The fact that some take as an insult says something.

Just got a haircut, was forced into doing it after I went to lunch and saw a beautiful girl who I normally would have approached, however today I was looking like I cut lumber or live in a cardboard box. My days of growing the horrible beard out are done.

Also, hilarity ensued at the barbershop which is 100% 1st and 2nd generation Jamaican barbers. The subject of prostate exams came up, and the dialogue between them was absolutely hilarious, some of these dudes would rather die than get exams.

BCG, does anyone else here have sickle cell? Im hospitalized right now and it sucks so bad -__-
I don't, but I knew someone in school who did. He was out of class a lot, sad to say. I'm sorry to see you're laid up in the hospital. Stay strong, man.

What do y'all think about Zoe Saldana playing Nina Simone?
I'd feel better about it if I knew whether or not she could sing, but I can't find anything of the sort.

as long as the movie gets made. i mean, it's not like it's jessica biel...
I scared myself thinking of the possible backlash. Like, I shivered a little bit.

When did she say "i'll never date a black guy"?

She hasn't.

But I haven't seen her with a brother, in real life or on the screen since Drumline. She's the designated interracial relationship actress of Hollywood, she's been the onscreen girlfriend/wife of at least 10 white dudes in her career thus far.

I could of sworn I've seen a picture of her holding up a peace of paper that had " I only like white dick" written on it.

I've never seen it.

But I have to say that I'm not too pleased with her playing Nina Simone. Even when Hollywood finally casts a black person in a role, they seem to succumb to their institutionalized racism.

Basically: "Fuck, I don't think casting Jennifer Lawrence as Nina Simone is going to fly guys." so they compromise and pick the "whitest" big name black actress they can find to fill the role. I'm surprised they actually cast Mary J in the first place.

Nina Simone is dark skinned, has strong black features, etc. I'm not hating on Zoe Saldana, but she's definitely benefiting from her lighter skin, more ambiguous features and overall biracial-ness.

I can't wait till the Madam C. J. Walker biopic starring Rashida Jones.

I have the trait and just found out my 2 week old son has the trait as well. My 2 year old does not however. I truly wish you the best man. I was dismissed from AW/SAR school in the Navy because of it so I know it can be bad with full blown Sickle Cell.

As for Zoe... No comment. Definitely not one of my favorite actresses.

Yeah me and my ex went to AC a little while back and we were surprised by how sketchy things looked just a few streets from the boardwalk. We did get offered a blazer for $2 though, so there's that.

I just went back like a month ago to see fam...Shit is even more sketchy then I thought it was, like people getting stabbed in front of the casinos and shit and this is in broad daylight.

Atlantic City NEVER use to be that out of control, even back during it's more urban days before companies moved in and pushed out families...like mine....

I'm a huge Nas stan but it was obvious to me the minute I heard Queens Get The Money that Jay Elec wrote that...

Dead Prez have clearly debunked her claims, even though they obviously came up with hooks for the songs. But the Jay Elec charge is certainly true. I mean listen to this shit, he's all off beat trying to sound like Elec

it really doesn't matter how many times Nas lost in other ways. i was there. i was living in BK when shit went down. i saw the faces of people when Ether dropped. no matter what happened since. with success. with women. with money. everyone still knows one thing to be true. on that day, Nas won. and all of Brooklyn hung our heads in shame. true story.

Biting Jay Electronica's rhyme style on a track doesn't mean Nas didn't write the track himself. Anyway no need in us arguing over this, one thing I've learned about hip hop over the years is that once a charge is made it, no matter how much proof you have against it/how ridiculous it is, it sticks for life (ex: Jay and Kanye in the Illuminati).

Nas didnt bite his style on QGTM because Jay Elecyarmulke wrote it himself. I thought this was known since the album first came out.
Nas got that struggle flow when he spits it.

Jays reaction on Hot 97 is proof enough that Nas won that one.

I knew it when it the album came out and they said Nas, Jay Elect, and Stic Man were in the studio working on the album together. That means it was a collab. It should be a non issue but Nas dropped a great album in "life is good" and it's dirt.... Even of it's old, dirt gets page views.

To be fair, black and latino aren't mutually exclusive.

Welcome to my life.

What do y'all think about Zoe Saldana playing Nina Simone?

Pure Hollywood horseshit and calculative, oscar-chasing on her behalf.

She doesn't look the part. I've never heard her sing. Isn't a particularly good actress.

Also, she seems dumb, conceited, and completely lacking in social awareness :

Zoe Saldana says black actresses who complain about lack of opportunities in Hollywood should get off their butts and stop complaining because America has a black president.

“We have a Black president right now,” the actress said in her Ebony magazine cover story. “So why the f— would I sit down and talk about how hard it is for Black women in Hollywood when there’s a Black president in my country?”

And it’s that attitude she says that helps her land her movie roles. “When I go after a part, [people] better watch their backs,” she says. “Not because I’m going to crush everybody, but because I’m going to give the best that I can because I strive for excellence. When you don’t get a part, it is for a reason, and these pieces will fall into place soon.”

Come on now.

Edit : LOL @ the thought of her being able to do a song like this honestly.
