The Black Culture Thread

I was playing Yakuza 3 earlier.

Such a manly game. Great graphics as well as a great storyline.

I think I spent more time fishing than actually kicking ass though. Caught me some big fish...

I bought Yakuza 4, I wonder if that was a good idea lol

Yakuza 3 gave the backstory of Yakuza 1 and 2 in the title screen as video packages.

Maybe 4 does the same thing for the previous titles, I'm not sure lol.

Just bought all the meat I'll be throwing down in that pit for Juneteenth. I'ts going down.

Always enjoy explaining this holiday to non-black folks. Though it can get ugly. I remember when I first had to explain to the lady, apparently she thought I was joking(I do it a lot) about it. So of course she had no problem joking about it to my family when they brought it up, thinking I got the joke from them. My immediate family went a long with it, but the others went into that "mode.' I won't mention exactly all that was said by everyone, but it took all my advance Jutsu to get her the fuck out of the house safely. Woooo man, Juneteenth!

You from Texas Lebron?
Yeah, Houston(about a hour away from Galveston where it started). Though I knew people who celebrated it in LA and Chicago, so I guess I figured it was common knowledge hah.

I'm glad I brought it up in here now.

Certainly hear a lot of Juneteenth in Houston. People were buying these pork ribs we had on sale for 99c a pound. I had to go to the meat department and help them weigh the rest.

Father's Day also falls on Juneteenth this year.

99 CENT RIBS?!?!?! Fuck.

Also, from the wiki leak,
As of June 2011, 39 states[1] and the District of Columbia have recognized Juneteenth as either a state holiday or state holiday observance; these are Alaska,[5] Arizona, Arkansas, California,[5] Colorado, Connecticut,[5] Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas,[2] Kentucky,[6][7] Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan,[8] Minnesota,[9] Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey,[5] New Mexico, New York,[5] North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas,[1] Vermont,[1] Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.[10]

So if you don't live in one of said states, you're state is racist.

Yeah, my Mom grew up in Texas and she was kinda surprised that no one in Virginia has heard of Juneteenth. Well, at least the people she talked to anyway.

Of course, despite living in Texas for the first 16 years of my life, I never actually heard of it either... or maybe I just forgot about it.

Not surprised. They never mentioned it in Texas or US history classes. "Lincoln freed the slaves..and then....stuff happen.

My parents are the ones who taught me about it.

We better stop this talk about this before someone tells us that Blacks should be Republican because Lincoln was and that the Civil War wasn't about slavery.

I used to be in the Juneteenth parade here in Austin. It was fun.

I still remember some of my teachers trying to convince me that Lincoln did it because he liked black folks. Fun times indeed.

Hey Afrocentric GAF, you guys read about turntable FM?
Yeah, I'm just not a mixing type of person. I do hope someone mixed something with Ninja Rap already.

No prob. I typed it out for ya (cuz it's that good).

Ploylessness

My truth casts no shadows
cause it soaks sun like hot pavement
wet with God-fire
I go higher

Beyond, beyond before.
When I was
Who I what was
When the thought of what was
Wasn't what it has become,
But a true representation of what it will be
When it's done.

Infinity's cousin, Me!
gave it that scar underneath it's eye
after a lethal lie
that was dissin' me
while we played The Dozens
don't call me stupid
and don't be talking 'bout my moms
we're in a cycle of antipathy
and the constellation?
Arms.

But, the truth be
we be sittin' on corners
sippin' on corrupted quarter waters
playing jumping jacks
jumpin' at the first chance
to jump up and dance
and shout and shake and sho nuff
show off our pittance,
pitted against preparation,
Concentration, reparation
the constellation is Arms.

41 shots aimed at the nearest star
plungers piercing the innards of who we are
bullets piercing or resilient flesh
we instilling that brilliant death
felt on the Atlantic floor
Fuck I'm here for?

Life-
write these rhymes get that dough

Liberty-
The statue where they be gettin that dough

The Pursuit of Happiness-
Hot pursuit of ball, woo that nigga can run
and when he gets caught he can lie
Big black, little white lies
like Plymouth Rocks and Rushmore mountains
separate fountains and desperate moments,
purple mountains majesties and strange fruit

What about freedom?
the question is moot.
The answer inventive but FALSE
Been trying to get to the source since Juneteenth

I guess we'll soon see our history
etched in stone and steel
and gold and platinum
Blingin' like them first chains
stinging like them curse names
carried for generations

I carved this poem from emancipation
so take it all in with a grain of salt
and gritted tooth
ain't no smiles on the path to the finest fruit

I, inhabitant of the land of hate,
proficient in its customs,
strong of heart,
survivor of the middle pass,
conqueror of the civil right,
they didn't know I was smart
the Spook Who Sat by the Door in the night
the equation on the back of God's hand
known it like it knew me
Who the FUCK you think you free?

Been here since before the apple got plucked from the tree
Me, the snake-charmer
can't you hear my song?
See the coy smile?
Smell my rage in the midst?
Must've been wrong
Guess you didn't know my theory in style.
The greatest ploy?

Ploylessness.

here's a video of him doing it live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQq89zuIDao
