I can not wait for this. With the exception of the camera work, which took some getting used to, I loved the Bourne Supremacy.

'The Unsomnambulist' attended a screening of "The Bourne Supremacy" last night at Arclight Cinemas that was followed by a Q & A with producer Frank Marshall. Here's his report:

"Nothing terribly new and surprising to come of it. Frank was adamant that "Indiana Jones 4" would happen, and mentioned that "The Bourne Ultimatum" was currently being writter for a 2006 shoot start, since Matt Damon is busy til then, as is director Paul Greengrass who'll return after helming the "Watchmen" comic adaptation.

Bourne Supremacy was shit soley for the terrible direction and cinematography.
The fight in the house was unwatchable because of the close-up, shaky camera.

Bourne Identity was a much better movie and the fight scene in the apartment was much more entertaining than the house fight in Supremacy.

I hope Ultimatum looks more like the first.

goddamit, Griese!
I disagree. I thought Supremacy was better than the Identity in almost every way possible.
Shakey Cam was a bit too much at parts, but it was a much better film IMO.

exactly what I feel. Supremacy had better action but the camera work was atrocious.

I felt less attached to the events and the story in the second. The first just had such a wonderful plot all the way through and such well-planned action sequences.

There's something so entertaining about a guy who is the perfect soldier who doesn't know he is. Something wonderful about watching him figure out what he already knows.
The park bench scene is awesome when he subconciously speaks german, then takes down those 2 officers.

I was too busy having a seizure in Supremacy to notice the plot.

I was a little let down by the DVD actually of Supremacy. The first one may be a bit off on pacing at times but the fighting was way cool.

This one you can barely see anything at all. That being said I still think this is the best film of its type in its genre in modern day though, as the emphasis is on espionage and not the number of explosions you can fit per frame.

Sucks that the director of Supremacy is coming back, maybe someone will let him know what a tripod is. I wonder what the story is behind the first movie's director not filming number 2. In Identity's DVD comments, the director talked about coming back for the sequel.

I agree that Bourne Identity was better, if only because of the camera work. I'm sure Greengrass has heard of what people thought of it, and hopefully he will fix that problem for the Ultimatum. Seriously, I thought the Bourne Supremacy was great, and was only hurt by its camera work.

goddamit, Griese!
for those that don't like the direction in Supremacy...did you at least like the part where he beats up the agent when he's first detained in naples?

Personally I thought that scene was awesome.

I most definitely agree with this post!

As far as I know Doug Liman always only planned to do the first one and if it took off was not going to direct the next ones. He did do a superb job though on the first. The only thing that could have used some work was the editing. They deleted too many scenes.

Which I suppose begs the question: did anyone like the handheld camera in Supremacy?

I know I enjoyed the movie in spite of it, but I hope I don't have to live through it for another two hours...

On the DVD commentary, Liman talks about how he had another ending for Identity ready to shoot, but the studio told him that it was too expensive to do. He goes on to say if/when there's a sequel, he was going to film that scene for it because it was too cool not to. Maybe he saved it for Mr. and Mrs. Smith?

I liked the handheld camera in The Bourne Supremacy. I liked the artifice and style of The Bourne Identity, but Supremacy's more gritty approach worked well.

I liked both films, but I found Supremacy to be slightly better. The Bourne Supremacy has some of the best spy versus spy scenarios ever constructed on film, and the fim's climax is the best car chase sequence since Ronin. The one in Identity is good, but Supremacy's destroys it. The endings for both films were satisfying, although Supremacy's was surprisingly quiet.

The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy compliment each other well. The first film is a quest for identity, truth, and security. The second film is a quest for vengeance, understanding, and redemption. In the first film, Jason Bourne finds himself through a companion. In the second film, Jason Bourne finds himself again, this time on his own. Both are impressive spy thrillers that are thoroughly entertaining.

It's pretty cool if it's not used so excessively in combination with an EXTREME CLOSEUP.

Really you can do some nifty gunfights with it, but when filming a fight scene shakey cam is a pretty good way to hide deficiencies the actors have.

Identity had better spy vs spy than supremacy, because Bourne wasn't as much of a superman in the first one and there were more competent assassins after him (sniper battle... oh man). The only guy who gave Bourne a run for his money in Supremacy was the Russian guy at the very end.

the bourne books rock, and the movies are pretty good adaptations. they aren't totally faithful, but i can forgive them not getting, for example, an older male lead when there's not really any big action star who would realistically look old enough to play the bourne from the books (in the books he's a vietnam vet so if they went with that, they'd need somebody who was in their late 30s). well, except kiefer sutherland, but i guess he wasn't interested in doing the movies.
