The colors of this photo will appear different to everyone. I think?

Awesome!

This has been driving me crazy all day. Some guy on reddit messed with the contrast, and it that version I see the dress as black and blue. The original pic is still white and gold to me, UNLESS I look at it cross-eyed... I've been spending way too much time on this.

Does looking at it cross-eyed work for anyone else?

I tried cross eyed and both dresses were still gold and white.

I've never been able to see one of those magic eye pictures, maybe there is a link there.

I got a 0. Perfect vision represent.

Anyway the dress is purple and yellow.

Almost perfect. Except that you clearly set Stanley up on the proper Blue and Black team, but at one point have him say "Come on people. White and gold!" Then have him vote for and jump on the blue and black side.

Fix it. Fix it now. (Unless it's not yours than tell me who did it and I will complain to them.)

If you see it as white and gold, I'd recommend trying something. Scroll the OP so the main picture is off the top of the screen, and look at the two pictures below (where the dress is clearly blue). Then, very slowly scroll up so the original image creeps in from the top of the frame. Every whitegold I've done this with has had the image flip for them.

It's good you are fixing them.

Still White and Gold. As it should be.

It only looks white and gold in the first picture when the dress is in an ourside enviornment. Every other picture I have seen it is blue and black. They just look like two different colored dresses to be honest.

The picture with the women wearing the dress in the OP is clearly black and blue. However, the first picture in the OP is white and gold.

That worked!
Freaky stuff.

My coworkers went over this yesterday. Me and another saw Blue/Black. Everyone else saw White/Gold, my boss saw Blue/Black first but she said why would anyone have a blue/black dress that shade anyway?

To be honest, when I see it I see a blue/muddy brown color and was confused when people said blue/black or white/gold.

It's been white and gold since I first saw it...until a few minutes ago when it was very clearly black and blue. Then it started fading and going back to white and gold, that was disturbing.

It's pale blue and gold-ish brown. Photoshop agrees with me.

That's what i see, light blue/lilac and goldish brown and in other pictures a dark blue and black. It's never been white and gold for me and the other 4 people with me saw blue/black too. I scored 11 in the Online-color-test-challenge if that matters.

Got a 14 on that test but I got kind of bored at the end so I probably could have done better.

Ha, me too. It was actually easier to defocus my eyes, listen to Giant Bomb play Rugby and just slide the blocks left or right till they made a gradient.

See, I have seen a photo that makes it look white and gold and another that looks blue and black. What is this thing and why has it reportedly broke the internet?

It's clearly black and blue, with the black then shifted to brownish-gold by overexposure and strong ambient lighting. When you correct the black levels (using the socks in the background as a reference), it's very obviously a black and blue dress.

There is no way that white would look so blue under such strong ambient lighting and overexposure. You'd have to be in very heavy shade for that, and gold would not look so desaturated in the shade.

As individual components, yes you could say that part is white, and part is gold. When you combine them together, you end up with a photo that is overexposed, in a store with strong ambient lighting, where the dress is simultaneously brightly lit while in heavy shade. This is a contradiction.

The only way it makes sense is by realising it's an awful photograph of a black and blue dress, where the black levels have been crushed by overexposure.

I dont think anyone actually sees it as pure white and pure gold but white and gold under a blue light, which would result in the light blue/goldish brown you're describing.

A report about this picture has just been on the Irish news. Apparently its all due to how we remember colour and how much we were exposed to it growing up. We all percieve colour slightly differently. The dress is blue and black, it was confirmed in the report but I still see white and gold.
