The colors of this photo will appear different to everyone. I think?

I just woke up and it looked white and gold to me, I then read a few of the posts then looked at it again and now its permanently blue and black

For those blue/blackers, if you can make your mind change it to gold/white somehow, you'll see it appears very gold.

Now that I've seen both its amazing.
 
Sometimes the white looks blue, but the gold never looks black to me.

I showed my brother this thread last night before it was a big deal on the internet and without prompting him he said it was Black and Blue. I wear glasses, he doesn't.

The white looks blue because it is blue!

You have clear white in the top right corner and down the right edge, the dress is blue. It's not even close.

Yah, I can freely switch how I perceive. White and gold is easier to see because the black is actually reflecting a gold color. But the black isn't just the straight lightless black.

I absolutely almost had the "White and Gold" experience when I viewed a link to the Tumblr post that had a gold-ish background, so much so that when the top section started to load, I blinked and thought, "Is that a different photo?" But then literally after the blink, it changed back to "Oh, that dress is definitely blue and black."

So close to divinity!

Black and Blue guys, try covering the bottom of the image and only look at the top.

White and Gold guys, try the opposite.

Almost everyone who goes White Gold to Blue Black say "scrolled up".

White and Gold people probably scrolled down to see it at first.
 
What does this have to do with eyes? This is nothing but post-processing, interpreting the dress as being in a dark or a light environment, resulting in two different possible color sets. It's like the spinning silhouette, or the shadow on the checkerboard. Sensitivity of your rods or cones seems bullshit to me.
 
I can't not see it as blue. I keep my monitors on pretty low brightness though. Might have something to do with it. Either that, or my eyes are only made to see old fashioned correct colors, not some liberal post modern "whatever color you feel like"-bullshit attitude that these youngens today walk around with. In my day, a dress was blue, dogs chased cats, bread cost a nickle, men kissed women, and that was the way we liked it.

Our monitors and televisions are calibrated differently so you'll see different shades regardless of the state of your eyes. Also, your brain will adapt and eventually convince itself that the shade of blue is in fact white.

That's just how it is, and one of the main reasons why external devices are used for calibration.

I see white and gold, although the back ground in the upper right is very clearly brighter, so it is more like a very light blue as a result, if I really want to be specific.


my opinion has not changed and i saw it yesterday a few times.

I have not once seen the opposite side.

I don't think this is like the spinning silhouette or the shadow on the checkerboard in its entirety... though I believe that it is like that for some people.

I believe based on the Ishihara Test that there are hard differences in color perception. And for certain people on that spectrum, it must be one, or it must be the other.... but for certain others it depends on how you look at it, like the spinning silhouette, like the "rabbit or duck" illusion, etc.
 
If you people calling the trim black mean "I can tell from the photo that the real dress is black, and it has just been overexposed in the picture" then fine.

If you mean "I look at this picture, and I literally see black," then I'm sorry, but your eyes don't work. The pixels making up the trim in that photo range from a bronze-ish gold to a dark bronze. This isn't a debate.

Also, you all need to start posting if you're using the dark or light NeoGAF theme. I'm using the dark.

I've tried everything. I cannot see black in that image.
 
I can kinda see the gold, although I would say it is more of a brown. But I cannot even fathom how anyone sees anything but blue.

Really cool photo.

We see the gold, but the dress isn't gold. It's yellow light reflecting off the black surface.

Mix yellow paint with black and you get gold. I learned this in fucking preschool LOL
 
This has been fascinating to watch unfold on here, Reddit, and the rest of the Internet. Unless you have a known condition we trust what we see implicitly without thinking about it and think everyone else sees something the same way. Going from early posts everyone who saw one colour combination thought anyone who saw the other was just lying until more people joined in and explanations were given.

I'm the first one, because there is an obvious yellowish hue on the black parts of the dress.

But there is nothing I can do to my mind or monitor settings that will make this dress not blue, and that includes reducing blue to a minimum.

I think it is similar to those other things now, its just harder to trigger.

I don't even know what triggered it for me, I had been seeing white/gold for hours, then I refreshed the page on here and the poster that recently had the three photos gradually getting darker was suddenly showing me the blue/black.

Sure there is. You adjust the RGB settings until the blue turns white. Your mind will do that for you if you stare at it long enough.

But then again your monitor could be uncalibrated, and like most of those cases it will be tinged blue until it is properly adjusted. In fact this entire topic is a bit pointless unless we're all viewing it with calibrated monitors capable of displaying 100% of the srgb colour space.

No, I am saying the whole thing is absolutely a definitely gold, not just a tint off the black. The blue also appears very white.

If it changes you'll definitely understand.
