The colors of this photo will appear different to everyone. I think?

I have always seen it as white and gold until I was next to my friend on her phone and out of the corner of my eye I saw the blue and black. I told her to scroll back up to it and it was back to white and gold. It was super weird.

on day 1 it was exclusively White n Gold to me

On day 2 it was White n Gold then switched to Black n Blue on me. The switch happened to me 3 more times then it stayed Black n Blue all night.

on day 3 so far today it has been only Nlack n Blue

Maybe my brain's perception has corrected itself after three long days of internet squabbling

This was on the news last night due to it 'Breaking the Internet' but when I was watching it I could clearly see what it really is, black and blue.

Just came into this thread for the first time and the image in the OP was clearly fucking white and gold. I changed the brightness on my phone and it changed to black and blue.

Now I can't get it back to white and gold. WTF.

Well this was unexpected since I wear glasses. Awesome!
Saw it as white and gold, light blue and gold, and now blue and dark brown/black.

I had to take my glasses off and I was only able to get 4. Pretty unnerving since I paint and do a little photography.

So its a washed up photo.
Meh

I still see White and Gold, but I can see that it could be Black and Blue in a different lightning conditions.

Every other version of the pic I see is black and blue to me but this one here on GAF is white and gold. I don't understand what the fuck is going on?

Sure, if you take a tiny splotch out, it no longer looks black. In the context of the photo, it looks like somewhat faded black fabric.

The digital image clearly shows a yellowish brown or brownish yellow and a whitish blue blueish white.

The splotch no longer looks black because it never was. It needs no context. It is not black, nor is it grey. Maybe the dress was black in person, but the image sensor on the camera has reported otherwise.

It's a poor picture of a blue and black dress. So poor the it displays brown/yellow ans white/blue. I know my gf is the one who introduced mw to this, and she easily guessed white and gold until some jink feed thread showed her the picture of the dress from the catalog. She instantly conflated the concepts of the "actual color of the dress" and the "actual color of the picture". And magically, the dress appeared black to her.

At first I was thinking something around cyan, then after factoring in the environment my mind's telling me white. If you tilt your screen upward, I can see how it's black and blue with some exposure issues.

Tilt your screen 60 degrees opposite you then scroll up on this thread. Yeah...

i've got to ask

did this originally come from GAF? or did horse detective take it from another site?

Well, you know the PS4 controller is black and blue, does this help?

WOW. Now it's very blue, and pretty blackish gold. This changes everything.

edit: wait, it seems like i can change it from white and gold to black and blue at will now, even while still looking at it. This is fucking crazy.

Could people who take fewer photos (none) and don't browse facebook or Instagram etc, and who hate shopping, be the ones at a disadvantage trying to see it as an overexposed indoor store photo? I can't see it for anything but an outdoor markets photo for some reason, although I intellectually know exactly what it is.

Not sure it matters, mate. I tick all of those boxes and it always appeared to me as indoors, under unnatural light, but backlit by the sun and overexposed. I didn't even need to think about it.

I wondered what all this dress crap was but never bothered to look it up until tonight when I saw the announcers mocking it in between periods of an NHL game.

When I look at it on my computer that has a bright/light theme in the browser it is white/gold (well actually blue-ish white).

When I look at it on my tablet that has a very dark themed browser, it looks very blue and dark brown almost black.

Why the hell do people care so much? And where can I buy stock in that dress ;P

Alright, drunk as fuck, time to see if I can see White and Gold dress. Have onlhy seen Blue and Black in any and all situations up to this point. brb.

EDIT: Nope, Blue and Black still.

I typically see white and gold but can trick my eyes to see the blue and black. The upper left of the dress' back is so obviously gold though that it ruins the illusion whenever it catchesmy eye though.

I tried to make it white and gold. I really tried. My thought process:

  1. It looks black and blue.
  2. The real dress is black and blue.
  3. Isolating the colors gives a very light blue and some darkish, brownish, yellowish colors.
Conclusion: Black and blue is the correct way to see it and I can forget about this now.

Yep that's black and blue alright. No idea how some of you guys are seeing white and gold.

Edit: yo wtf, I just went back to the first page and now it's white and gold.

When I first see the picture, its always white and gold, and if I scroll down and see it again its black and blue. Happens every time.
