Ryu - it's fucking ree-you (*at least if you are trying to say it without Japanese enunciation), not rye-you. And hell, all of the SF2 and beyond games have been pronouncing it forever, and until SF4 the majority still said it incorrectly.

Sagat - it's Suh-got, not Sagat like Bob.

Kage from the Virtua Fighter games. It's Kah-gay, not Cage.

Ooh-be-soft. Never thought to pronounce the U differently.

es-en-ee-es. Snez sounds fucking stupid, sounds like a category of sneezing or a future name.

maw-rio. Self explanatory, Mario isn't Merry-o.

Four-za. Where the fuck does the T come from that people use?

Eye-co. Sounds better and cooler.

Lara Croft or Laura Croft

I've heard these three different pronunciations:

lair-ah (This is what I think is correct, like how Marlon Brando pronounces it in Superman)

lah-rah (like rah rah sis boom bah)

and then finally, the Garnett Lee special:

Laura (most definitely wrong)

Personally I think its the second one, but I might me wrong.

People that call the Super Nintendo SNES as one word is some weird shit. Call it the Super Nintendo or say each letter, its four letters. Would be on the same level of dumb as calling the Dreamcast "DCast", or the Playstation "Pstation" which would sound like piss or pee station.

Ironically, the latest Tomb Raider pronounces it two different ways. Depending on who's saying it. Laura being one of them (and wrong).

Used to say Ubisoft as "You Be Soft", now say it as "Ooh Be Soft".

SNES has always been "SNEZ", like "Pez" over here.

Mario as "Mah Ree Oh", with the "Ma" said like "Far".

Forza as "Fort Za". It's just more fun to say.

Used to say Ico as "Eye Co", but I've been led to believe "Eee Co" is more correct.

Blast Corps as "Blast Corpse", which is probably wrong.

And for the love of god, Lara Croft's name is pronounced "Lah Rah", not "Lore Ah". We already have a name for the second option, and it's called "Laura".

The one negative to learning Japanese: it becomes really annoying to listen to people pronounce things wrong.

It's ee-co, not eye-co.
