Yes, which is why no matter what GIF's creator says, the only sensible way to say it is with a hard G as in "gift".

It's Aerith. When I got my copy of the game back when it was released, it has always been spelled Aerith (and yeah, it was English version, not Japan).

OBJECTION: Your claim of superiority by getting the game when it first came out is both hearsay and irrelevant. Truth is, it's both Aeris and Aerith depending on whether you had PAL or NTSC. So you're not wrong if you pronounce it either way.

That said, Aeris does sound better than Aerith off the tongue.

Did people really refer to their system as es en ee es? That just sounds weird. "Let's play the ES EN EE SS!" One too many letters. We always called it the Super NES. Snez I believe, them brits is weird.

I almost always say Super En-ee-es. If I'm talking to a more casual Nintendo fan who I think is probably not familiar with the term "En-ee-es"--the colloquial "Nintendo" was used to the 8-bit system 'round these parts (now I hear a lot of people calling it "the old Nintendo")--I'll just say "Super Nintendo".

Yeah. I couldn't care less which it is, but my 1st run copy of FFVII (US) says Aeris. That was the first English language release, so anyone who wants to play the "me first" card with Aerith is wrong.
