Space muppets that yell like chipmunks when they get stepped on.

that doesn't look menacing at all tbh

helghast on the other hand with those masks have that intimidating look.

they aint messing around

helghast ftw

I would pick the Helghast. The covenant are shitty at war; they had all this futuristic tech and got their asses kicked by people.

That's only a single species part of The Covenant. The weakest one even. They're so low on the totem pole they're just collectively referred to as the Grunts by Humans.

Their main fighters are scary space alien warrior race that are twice the size of regular people, big mean ape aliens with big guns, and a walking tank worm thing that carries a huge cannon around.

Not that it matters since this would all end in space anyways!

This isn't even a fight. Its more like the Covenant swatting a fly out of the air.

The Covenant would use their sheer strength in both numbers and technology to overwhelm in space, Glass the planet in a few hours and then be home in time for dinner...Worst case scenario, launch a supercarrier at the plannet on a suicidal plundge at FTL speeds, they dont care, they have more. If they really wanted to, they can take a Human as a prisonor of war, go directly to the first Halo ring they know of where they can activate and specifically target the planets they are on.

The covenant stomp them. This is not a reflection of which series is "better" or anything, they just aren't on the same scale. The Covenant in turn get roflstomped by the Galactic Empire of Star Wars, who get stomped by any number of species in the Culture series. I think there's some high end Xeelee saga shit too, and the Time Lords from Dr Who win most things because lol time travel.

And this is why this thread needs to now be about ...

Single Culture warship vs the whole Galactic Empire from Star Wars movies. Let's say the ship could be either GSV Sleeper Service from Excession or Falling Outside Normal Moral Constraints from Surface Detail. Go, forth and make spacebattles.com weep!

This is too one sided. Even pre-war UNSC would rofl stomp of all Killzone verse.

The Systems Alliance from Mass Effect vs helghast from would be a more interesting fight.

Ooh. I dont know. I love Star Wars, but I think the Covenant would give the Galactic Empire a run for their money.

My money'd be on the Covenant, for most of the reasons already spelled out., Their tech is way beyond the Killzone-verse.

Hell, I'd imagine Grunts could do almost all of the the work by themselves.

This. A hundred thousand times this.

Culture would destroy most fictional space faring species, IMO. The Minds would be pretty difficult to beat.

Yup, that is what I love about the culture. And it is also "realistic", meaning that technology could actually go to that level in eons. Unlike some other sci-fi races that are literally Gods.

Based on my playthrouh of Killzone 2, the Hellgan ground forces would have problems agaisnt WW2 era USA.

even if they decided not to just glass the entire planet (why? ok, maybe they suspect there are artifacts there or something...) they would still crush the locals easily.

It's because they all had really good intentions all along & are really filled with love and honor and were mislead by one floating bunch of jerks which were punched in the face 'till dead.

The Demons from Doom.

They can subvert technology in their favor and they arrive by the hundreds of thousands.

Covenant and the Helgast would be a joke.

A single star destroyer could accomplish the same effect (and more) that an entire Covenant fleet could upon a planet in less than a day to even a single hour: Base Delta Zero
I normally don't count the books, but I'll go with it. While Base Delta Zero sounds impressive, it doesnt seem leagues ahead of what Covenant could do. And as the Covenant is a coalition of many races, I feel they have numbers on their side. One could argue the Galactic Empire is made of more than one race, but I really only count their army. I think the biggest advantage I'd give to Covenant is their ship-to-ship battle capabilities. If a Star Destroyer went in to wipe out a planet, the Covenant ships would put up a good fight and pick the Destroyer off.

Excession Spoilers: I think
call me highway call me conduit call me lightning rod
could give the collective Minds a run for their money.

God that book is so good, I need to read it again.

Covenant. There's just no comparison. You've got what has to be tens of millions of troops, probably millions of ships, commanders that are consumed with religious zealotry, an entire class of warriors(huge emphasis on warriors, they live for war, they're not soldiers) with the same levels of religious zealotry, and a battle plan that reads something like "throw everything at whatever it is until it's dead, we'll make more ships and train more troops, NBD".

That right there, Pre-Reaper Invasion Mass Effect Citadel Species Alliance versus the Covenant. That'd be cool. Like all the Mass Effect Species that answer to the council in a full on alliance, so all of Earth's home defence fleets, along with the Turians, Asari, Salarians, Volus, Elcor, Hanar, and Drell vs the Covenant. Can't count Krogan, Terminus Systems, Vorcha, or Batarians due to them not answering to the Council.

Hey what you got against SB? Just because some people like to argue that SW could beat the Culture don't lump us in with them! ;)

Anyway the Covenant destroy the Helghast. Intersteller empire simply have a bigger resource base to draw from. And i Know of nothing that the Helghast could use to protect their planet from glassing.

The twist about why the pursued Mind from the beginning went suicidal, is one of the most badass moments in the entire Culture series.

The Culture would absolutely WRECK the Covenant. They have like, Superman level powers, plus Batman level planning skill.

Oh man it's been too long, help me out.
Was it the Grey Area that destroyed itself? I just remember it saying "let's you and I have a chat" to the Excession.

Edit: And Culture vs. Galactic Empire? Seriously? Star Destroyers against ships that can single-handedly destroy fleets spanning several lightyears in the breadth of a second? Star Destroyers have to stop and shoot for crying out loud.

Covenant. Easily.

Unless Radec is fighting and the difficulty of the war is on the highest setting.

Edit- somebody is always faster on gaf.
