The Crew Motorfest Reviews Soon

Ubisoft sent me in 2 review codes (1 Xbox Code and 1 PS5 code) today for their next upcoming sequel in The Crew franchise "The Crew Motorfest" the game has no review embargo date which means reviews will start getting posted as soon as possible and everything can be talked about. The game releases on September 14th.

Gonna hop in and see how it is -

Here is a trailer if you need a reminder

It would be good to know how well the game works with a steering wheel and how it differs from FH5 (other than having bikes, boats, etc.,). Hopefully there is an actually enjoyable progression system in place.

Won't be able to give you an opinion on this as I do NOT use steering wheels. But I can most likely compare it to FH 5 since I've played a good grip of that.

Update - installed the game but the servers aren't live till September 11th. So much for being able to write about this game prior to its release. September 11th is same day as the early acess for those who bought the ultimate edition. Looks like I am going to be playing alongside everyone else is at same time. Not even IGN can play early lol. Back to Starfield adventures then.

What's the point of sending out review codes early if people can't access the servers? 🤔

No idea. Blizzard was smart about it though with Diablo 4, even though that was also a game based on live servers, they opened up a Special Review server which let people play the full game prior to its release date for a full week or so. Not sure why Ubisoft decided to let the press and everyone else who purchased ultimate edition on the same day and not providing a press server. Oh well, will review the game on our own merit without trying to rush it then..

I'm wondering if you need a ps+ membership to play this game. Is it Always online?
Yes, it's always online. But I am going to assume you can just do the solo stuff without a subscription, otherwise that just wouldn't make any sense. I never really play multiplayer in racing games anyways.

Really? I never had an issue with Forza Horizon's handling. What cars did you use?

Forza has good handling, the Crew doesnt but the Horizon franchise is getting too stale so I hope Motorfest brings something fresh and is more rewarding.

I’m really hoping this turns out good. They have such a great base to work from. Love the focus on driving and ditching the boats and planes too. There’s always dlc for stuff like that.

Boats and planes are still in The Crew Motorfest. Not sure where you heard or thought that they are ditching those.

"Yes, The Crew Motorfest will have boats and planes, similar to The Crew 2. Although we have no idea how much they're featured during the game. Boats and planes were heavily featured during The Crew 2's initial game content, but very little was added past that."

Oh shit. I swear I saw a video where it was said that they removed the planes and stuff. Crazy.

I'd prefer they just stuck to cars. Boats and planes don't belong in a driving game imo (I guess Ubisoft don't see it as just a driving game then).

Original crew just had cars. The second game introduced additional vehicle types. I am actually the opposite of what you are thinking. Adding additional type of vehicles brings in a ton of variety for gameplay and racing.

Honestly, I was surprised Forza Horizon never delved into bikes. It would be nice if future Forza Horizon would introduce new vehicles types. Because right now, every game is just a new country with not that many differences and irs getting old.

Maybe they'll unlock it early for reviews, otherwise it's pointless sending the code so early. But you never know with Ubisoft.

How have literally never heard of this game?
They're not doing much marketing for this game, which tells me they don't have much faith in it.

Forza Horizon is stale because the devs have no idea how to make an engaging game, they just made a pretty sandbox and filled it with busywork chores to satisfy the GaaS remit. FH5 is a big downgrade from FH4 in multiplayer, removing the ranked mode which was a major sore point for many of us and is the main reason I played it a fraction as much as I played FH4. Now most of the original devs have left Playground, perhaps new blood will improve things for FH6. They need to hire a game director who knows how to make a good racing game. The last one didn't have a clue.

I enjoyed FH5 quite a bit, but not as much as FH4 due to the soundtrack. The soundtrack was far superior in FH4 and was more fun to drive too.

The ranked mode stuff didn't bother me, i never play multiplayer in racing games but i can understand how some people may get upset about that.

I hope Forza Horizon 6 shakes things up in some shape or form.

I don't think that Forza Horizon should add motorcycles as the physics of cloth, momentum, and collision are not really that well implemented even in dedicated titles. Plane races are devoid of impact without weapons and their addition would probably be pointless. Water racing is cool, but it is more suitable for arcade racing games, which Forza Horizon is really not.

What I think Forza Horizon 6 should do is greatly improve Road Series events, add some rival personalities to their Street Races, and add a somewhat elaborate racing track with go karts. I also think that they should take a step back with regards to destructible trees, rock fences, and rail guards and instead work on car deformation (maybe add a car derby event). I think it would also be neat to add a second interchangeable avatar to ride along and cheer the player on or just look cool. I would also be interested in them changing the drone mode to be a free-roam helicopter and any discoveries prompting landing and collection. Also, as weird as it may sound, I think they could play up the tourist angle and add famous restaurants, hotels, and casinos for their next destination.

P.S. I hope they remove the hearing aids, prosthetics, and gender nonsense from their next entry. They add nothing but a reminder of the absurdity of life. Also, more authentic accents for locals. The proper pronounciation of Mexico was butchered in FH5.

Yes the first Horizon game had a single player campaign similar to that with the rival personalities. Then for the next games they ditched it. Now the single player is just an empty tick box of races just to earn credits to buy more cars, which the game throws at you anyway. There is never anything at stake, no tension or excitement. The bare bones of a good game are there, the graphics and the car handling, but the GAME is like an afterthought they cobbled together on a Friday afternoon before going to the pub. Playground seems to have (or had, before they recently left) all the talent on the technical side, but very little on the creative side. They could presumably fix this with the right creative hires.

Also for a game in modern times which is on a service where they want you to keep playing (game pass), the multiplayer is just incredibly bare bones as well, and they've been pig-headedly stubborn about ignoring what the community keeps asking for. They just come across as incredibly lazy. There are budget games with better designed multiplayer than Forza.

Are review codes part of the creator's program? Pretty sure they've had access to the game for a while now.

I'm really excited for this. The motorcycles in these games are a ton of fun. Hope early access starts at midnight.

Will try the 5 hour free trial on launch day. If its good Im getting it christmas time. The fact that it even has a free trial shows such confidence in the preorder numbers lol.

Boats and planes are still in? I too thought they left that shit out. Didnt show any of it during reveals.

Can you think of a racing game with a creative angle to model this new entry after? I think they did pretty well in adding personality with stories in FH4 though they have room to improve the businesses and other racing event series.

What would you do with multiplayer events if you were the director of the game?

I think the best thing is limited progression more linear. Just not show me 50 new icons of stuff after every story milestone progression.

For mp they should have filters for lobbies for people who wants to race.

Ni clue. We are not a part of any creators program. We are Press and have been working with Ubisoft for many years now. So all of the stuff we recieve is because of Press status and not influencer. Creator program I believe is more for YouTubers/Influences.

I won't go on about Forza too much as I don't want to derail the thread, but just for example, FH4 had ranked racing which was actually pretty good, although flawed in some important ways, it had some fantastic close racing - one reason being because there was so much at stake, especially the more you climbed the ranks. It was very hardcore, like the cliché the dark souls of racing - I don't remember the exact numbers but it was something like you might have to win 10 or 20 ranked adventures (each being 3 races) to get back your lost points from losing just one. If you lost against lower ranked players especially you got hammered.

Higher ranked players were rare (I got as high as league 1, which was just below grandmaster, playing free for all) so you would often be the only 'gold' ranked player in a lobby, or sometimes you and one other. This meant you HAD to win or you would plummet down the ranks. But if you did win, you'd sometimes get 0-1 points and barely move up at all. Or sometimes you'd even drop slightly, despite winning (one of the system's design flaws). It meant that just one small mistake in even one of the races and you'd lose the whole adventure. Another flaw was that the starting positions were randomised. So if you started at the back on a short race, it wouldn't matter how good a driver you were, you would be very unlikely to win on some tracks. Oh, there were smurfs in the game so sometimes a very lowly ranked player, on paper poor, would in fact be very fast, so if you lost to them then the game would crucify your rank.

This mode was at times thrilling and high stakes, Playground Games just had to tweak it to iron out its flaws for FH5.

What did they in fact do? They binned it altogether. And now, the stats page for FH5's basic racing mode doesn't even keep track of your race wins. The online racing is just against randoms of varying skill level, so a lot of racing is boring because it's too easy.

You drive from point A to B to win credit, so you buy new car that drive slightly differently on slightly different roads.

If it's like forza, you'll start with a prius or something for the first race then the second car is immediately a Maserati
