The Dark Knight Rises (Batman 3) - No Riddler

Spielberg should have quit at JAWS - CEOTTK was crap so was ET lol at AI and Munich was the hulk film in israel, lebanon etc

In all seriousness, Close Encounters is the oddest Spielberg film I've seen of his (and I think I've seen almost all of them)... I was shocked when I found out he had penned the screenplay, though iirc, he had a lot of help. The whole ending is bizarre in a deus-ex-machina kind of way (may or may not be misusing this term) and the movie is really dark
-- so many Spielberg films feature single parents, but essentially choosing the aliens over his wife and daughter? cold blooded.
Very very unorthodox: protagonist was borderline unlikeable, the tension isn't really resolved at all, partly because there's no traditional climax, and, all in all, for a movie so filled with Spielberg's patent child-like wonder, it's so cynical. It's like the perfect 1977 sci-fi foil for Star Wars.

Wish more directors had the budget and the balls to make something like this again, great film.

It'd probably end with Dent being Gotham General's first successful face transplant patient.

Haley Joel Osment as Robin and Glenn Close as The Penguin

EDIT: And YES. Close Encounters is a fantastic movie. That's what I'd like to see from Spielberg, something that treats humans as more than something to hold tears

LoL Smash advert in film format.

batman would use the sonar to help et phone home and then put him in his batbasket and float in front of the moon and the five year old girls in the audience would cry and scullibundo would stand and say bravo monsieur spielberg bravo you have moved me in my underwear

Think about it.

Seems about right to me.

But you forgot the uplifting part of the soundtrack when Batman and ET promise to never forget each other.

Meanwhile George Lucas masturbates furiously just off camera.

Sorry, realised I missed this. By this logic, it's also an advert for doors. And beards. And America. And keyboards. And people called Richard.

Seems about right to me.

I take it as a given that wherever Steven Spielberg is, George Lucas is close by masturbating furiously into the eye socket of the crystal skull

Catwoman is part of the problem why I don't think this film is going to work, I don't see where her and Cotillard are going to fit in if one/both are love interests and one/both are villains. Just have Bane as the only antagonist and a post-credits sequence at he and Batman making out

They could have at least given her the mask. I wanted to see Catwoman, not Random Infiltration Chick #3094.

Only positive is that they didn't bare her midriff like that POS Halle Berry version.

I liked the first hour the first time. Then you realize that the movie spends most of the time trying to explain itself. Up until the very end with Ellen's explanation for how they'll get out of limbo.

Needlessly complex.

Prestige. Thats a great film. Lots of twists, turns and secrets but it was ALWAYS about the characters through and through. Inception never had that luxury. The characters were just a mouth piece for the 2 hour dream sharing tutorial that Nolan was so intent on making.

Agree to disagree. I understand that the entire time you are being explained the rules, but to me it took nothing away from the movie itself. I would line up and make the same complaints if it bothered me but all I could think about after the movie was the ending and what were the possible theories around it. And while the rest of the cast is there to support Leo and the heist, I think Leo and the story about his wife and kids is done really well. The scene where he finally accepts his guilt and she says "You said we would grow old together..." and he replies "We did" was superb. Not a lot of time for character development but there is enough in there to keep it extremely entertaining for me. Also Cilian Murphy's character and the end scene he has with dad with the theme kicking in at the right cue. Perfectly done.

And he's not already wasting it on The Girl w/ The Dragon Tattoo?

Yeah I really really hate this argument. We want good directors to be interested in and work on some of this source material because otherwise really sub par directors wreck the franchises. And then we bitch about how they can't attract good talent to work on these movies. So what is it? Can't have it both ways. I much rather have talented directors working on summer blockbusters than guys like McG.

And besides "wasting"? If a director is genuinely interested in a project, how can it be counted as wasting. It doesn't matter if its a comic book movie, superheroes, based on a novel, or whatever else source material.

Why do we even have to have a reboot after Nolan?

Why can't Batman as a character be an absolute? Look at how Joker was handled in The Dark Knight.

It will be 7 movies starting with the first Tim Burton movie, the old tv show, several animated series, and decades of history. One of the top if not the currently iconic superhero character in existence.

People already know the premise of Batman, a person who can never let go of his parents death becoming one of the most important driving vectors to his psyche to be Batman, in which a new movie can easily give nods/flashback too without trying to set it up all over again. You can easily just jump right into whatever you want with Batman.

We know next to nothing about Batman after TDKR but from some of the comments early on from WB execs we do know Nolan will stick around to produce the movies. We also know they said they we reboot in the sense they will have a new cast and director but no one ever said they are going to do another origins story. I think they are going to avoid that and just start a new series with Batman already established.

That would be my pick.

I think Spielberg should be considered for top 5 action directors as well. War of the Worlds and Minority Report had some of the best action sequences I have ever seen.

Can someone repost that video of the guy dressed as Batman going around a city screaming batman quotes? kkthxbye

I've got some good news, GAF!

Just like TDK, TDKR will be releasing here in Australia on the 19th as opposed to the US' 20th! Given the time difference, it is once again almost two days ahead. :D Shit, last time they ended up pushing it forward another day. Time will tell if it happens again!
