That movie will never be made without taking Joker/Riddler/Lex out of it. That script has been kicking around for years. Great idea, and that's why it'll never be made. DC has no idea what to do with their properties, and has been getting their ass kicked by Marvel since Blade. Batman is an abberation, everything else they do with their big stars sucks.

SO I just picked up the Batman Begins Blu-ray (just came out here). Am I wrong for thinking it's worth it for the 6-minute Dark Knight prologue?
Anyway, being somewhat mild to it when I first saw it at the theatres (don't get me wrong, I thought it was great, but flawed), but seeing BB many times in the recent past, I'm thinking it's actually a lot better than I gave it credit for initially. It was a little bit involved, complex and moved at a pretty fast pace - it needed a couple viewings to have some of the briefer pieces fit into context, much like Dark Knight.
Anyway, being somewhat mild to it when I first saw it at the theatres (don't get me wrong, I thought it was great, but flawed), but seeing BB many times in the recent past, I'm thinking it's actually a lot better than I gave it credit for initially. Yes, no Joker. Why does he need to be brought back so soon? Move on. He works a lot better as a one-film villain, anyway, since he always dominates the screen and the movie no matter who plays him. My next opinion is that since they will anyway, have no Joker, age Batman 10~15 years (look how they aged Paul Giamatti in John Adams, damn), have Gotham an infinitely more fucked up place than when Batman began and some villain that finally forces Batman to either unveil his identity or for him to die. Or just hang up his costume for good due to some circumstance at the end.

Crazy idea I just had after watching There Will Be Blood, but what about Daniel Day Lewis as Joker? Maybe not in a Nolan sequel but in a new series.
I'd definitely love to see an actor like Daniel Day-Lewis take on a comic book character role, but not necessarily the Joker. Something else, though, definitely. I get a kick out of watching great actors known for more serious roles do stuff like this. That's one of the reasons Depp was such a hit when he first busted out Jack Sparrow (and, in a highly underrated role, Al Pacino way back in the day in Dick Tracy).

I like how on Supermax that it isn't going to be an origins story. I don't think the Joker should be in there because the Joker is always in Arkham and actually, isn't the Riddler in there usually too? Who have they casted so far for the Green Arrow?

I still want to see Bane in the third one, but I have no idea who they could get to play the part. Nolan always picks brilliant actors, but Bane would require someone with the muscle mass to be convincing. Bane is a very complicated character that needs to be played just right, so they would probably need to find a decently shaped actor who is willing to get huge for the part like Thomas Haden Church did for Sandman. I still think the Riddler is too close to the Joker to be a viable main villain, while Hush is just too obscure for most viewers to be anything but a secondary villain. Ra's Al Ghul worked because he tied in nicely with the Batman restart. The third movie won't have the luxury of being able to use Batman as the primary draw. Bane may not have the luxury of being an Adam West villain, but he at least had appearances in the cartoon and was part of probably the most famous comic story in the last 20 years for Batman.

For the same reason Scarecrow was (and should have been) brought back for The Dark Knight. Just because a movie is over doesn't mean the world suddenly does a reset. The Joker is still alive and around - he shouldn't just be completely forgotten for the next movie. That's one of the elements that helps ground this new Batman series, that things aren't just brought in or out at will to suit the moment.
I think, obviously, the way they handle the Joker in the next film will certainly change now, but absolutely, I think he should be back, at least to some degree.

Yeah he could tone down the smacking, but other than that, it's just about spot on. I'm very impressed.
This phenomenon reminds me of something like Brando's Godfather being quoted, or reperformed. Which is another great similarity, considering the prosthetic they both wore, using to great effectiveness. Both actors having a BIG hand in how the the character they would create should look right away. The extreme choice of voice and specific body language they chose. I would say it's something similar to DeNiro's Taxi Driver or Jack Nicholson's A Few Good Men as well, but those are remembered more for one scene in pop culture and don't have as many similarities on the whole.
Of course it's near blasphemy to compare such a recent performance to Brando, and the Bardem comparison is more reasonable as of now, but it's crazy how much people are attaching themselves to this performance. It's one of the most impactful of the last couple decades.
That said, I'm not so fond of watching these. It's just too weird. And those saying if you listen, it's exactly like the movie. I disagree. It moves way too quick at times. There's no actual listening going on, no communication. It's next line next line, not communicating one thought. Even when he's nailing the gestures and extremes, because he's watched it over a couple dozen times. Things like the laugh seemed lost. And yeah, the lip smacking and bottom jaw of his is just weird.
But if you like imitations, then it's pretty good. I can't do it though. The more they try to redo his performance exactly, the more it just puts a glare on the smaller things wrong with it. I'd rather see somebody do their own thing, using the character Ledger created, than an exact re-enactment.
