The Division - 15 minutes of new gameplay

1440p & 60fps, is this the PC version?

I hope I'll be invited in the PC beta.

No if you listen to him he says he uploaded it at 1440p60 to minimize YouTube compression, even though it was filmed on Xbox One at 1080p30.

Anyway I'm finding myself surprisingly interested in this game. It could partly be that I have a huge crush on NYC (lived there up until a year ago), but I'm also realizing that setting an ARPG in an urban city is much more interesting to me than [insert fantasy/sci-fi setting here].

Excited to try it out on PC during the beta weekend.

Ah, alright. I watched it muted from my office.
PC version is still on NDA, right?

What makes me interested in this game is because the gameplay kinda reminds me of Mass Effect. Cover shooters with teammates, bullet sponge enemies, various hi-tech gadgets, loots and RPG elements, love what I saw so far.

January 22nd is when PC footage should be out (at least that's what people have said here)

Yeah that too. It's like Mass Effect and Borderlands 2 had a baby, which is great because those are two of my favorite games.

I am liking everything I am seeing with the all new footage EXCEPT how some normal looking enemies are massive bullet sponges. I need to play the beta to see if it feels better than how looks.

You can try preorder physical version from Amazon and cancel it after redeemed the code.

I'm very well aware of that trick, but unfortunately, I don't have the access to credit cards. I know it's very not cool, but it's just not a common thing to have (yet) for people in my country.

NP, I think it's cool to not have. I rarely use too beside for online shopping.

Jesus, people are sour in this thread.
It's a Ubisoft game thread on GAF. It's usually very much the same from sour groups.
Well, that's too bad then. At least I learned something new today. :D

And now, back to waiting for a beta key..
Order it from Amazon and they'll mail you a beta key, from there you can cancel the order and still enjoy a nice and redeemed beta key. (Don't matter if you're US or not)

I wonder how robust the itemization is. Destiny was paltry in that regard when it first came out.

Anyway, I preordered to get in the beta. If I like it, I will go full season's pass.

It seems that I can order the physical version. But it has been cancelled shortly after the order confirmation. Perhaps I'll have to do some kind of registration/confirmation first with my bank before I can do some online shopping with my debit card.

Can I use the similar method with the steam version?

jesus christ at the graphics downgrade, the map controversy and the overall gameplay.

well, saved myself money I suppose but this looked pretty promising.

I don't know, the game still seems pretty ambitious to me. From all the videos I've seen the recreation of Manhattan is pretty spot on, with even the streets having the right look and feel. I've played a bunch of other games that purport to recreate cities and they generally feel pretty artificial and gamey (e.g., GTA3). The "map controversy" to me is a non-issue, since I would rather they give us a quality map filled with detail and things to do than a large, empty wasteland.

If the gameplay doesn't appeal to you that's another thing entirely.

As a DC fan, I really enjoyed the story and a bit of the gameplay. It feels like Mortal Kombat though and I'm not really a fan of how that game feels.

I am with you, it does (or did) feel ambitious. And I love what I see of the gameplay (I am a Borderlands/Diablo/X-com fan).

But, there is a long way between a 20th of Manhattan and GTAX.

I really wanted to pick up Destiny, but after the 3 day trail, it was clear to me there would not be enough content to last me 10 days before I was running the same raid over and over again for loot (at least until i had to buy an unannounced expansion). The "you see that land over there, you can go there" comment by Bungie didn't help. And you know, to me, showing footage of parts if the city in its original reveal and E3 Demos that wont make it into the final game, feels just as underhanded.

This was a day one purchase from me easily, but unless Ubi clarifies exactly what content is included in the base game, I will sit the fence till I see reviews talking about that content. I do'nt want to be stuck running the same Darkzone over and over for 2-3 months waiting for another $30 fraction piece of Manhattan.

What's wrong with the map

Real Base Game Playable Area???

Steam charges you right there and then, but it does add The Division - Beta to your library.
It should be refundable after the beta is finished should you not like it.

Yeah fair point. The question then becomes, how much content are we getting in this initial release and how long will it last? I'm totally cool with them holding back Brooklyn or Downtown Manhattan for future DLC as long as the initial game has a ton of content and the DLC is high quality. With these types of games it's generally safer to wait until impressions about game length start rolling before making a purchasing decision.

Is there matchmaking for regular missions?
Like Destiny strikes?

I don't think I'll have that many people on PSN to play with and this game seems way more fun with a couple friends or randoms.

I'm sure there will be plenty of people on GAF to group up with.

That's what I'm banking on doing (if I get it).

Yeah me too, I've a small group of friends who play Destiny/GTA5 together which is great but being old and decrepit we have less time to game so miss each other often. This year is definitely the year to reach out to some gaffers especially if the division is fun.

I find this really depressing, in fact this is the most disappointing downgrade of them all. Graphics don't bother me, these things change, but losing huge areas of the world... Mark my words, this game's downfall will be it's lack of content/endgame.

The map as it is now in the game is still only slightly smaller than the FO4 map and it seems to be a very faithful recreation.

I expect the Division to have slightly less content than vanilla Destiny. No raids.

People expecting Destiny + Dark Below + House of Wolves + The Taken King levels of content from vanilla Division are going to be disappointed.

Downfall? Do you know their content release schedule? Have you seen Destiny? Have you seen Diablo?

It's a RPG looter shooter.
Drip feeding content is the best way to prolong its lifespan.
It's not lost, it's coming.

It's Destiny threads all over again, and it's not even out.

That and the "b-but I don't want this game to be an RPG! MY IMMERSION!!!" posters

A perfect opportunity to use the ignore-function on the forums ;D

As for me, I don't care about the "bulletspongey" enemies, we haven't seen how it looks when you're level 30 with decked out artillery. And based from the videos only bosses take more than a few rounds to take down so I don't see it as a problem.

Sizewise: well, the area itself is smaller than what I've hoped for but I don't think the size is a problem, We got subways & buildings to enter, i mean the videos showing off the mission in a building took like an 30+min to complete and that building is just a very small part of the map. Don't care that they didn't include what they revealed and I know they are planning DLC already so at some point we will get the content.

Got my betakey ready and hopefully it's awesome!
