The Division - 15 minutes of new gameplay

While i'm not too concerned that the screens don't exactly blow me away, I am puzzled as to why a game that looks like that is going to push a 970 to it's limits and beyond. It certainly doesn't look like should.

So he he is getting 60fps, with dips to 50fps @ 1080p maxed out (whatever that means) on a 980Ti.

Hmmm, hoping for some more optimization so I can run it 60fps @ 1440p. I'm just going to chalk it up to no proper driver support + 1 1/2 month of optimization crunch left to do.

Although if these are actually maxed out, I'm not seeing why or how this needs a 980Ti to max out at 1080p - the guy said he is getting 60fps with dips with a 980Ti so people with anything less are not going to get 60fps maxed out.

I'm calling it poorly optimized at this point.

I'm wondering if they have a bunch of settings intentionally turned pending optimization.

Is there even AF in those shots? Those textures look muddy at any distance.

Something is fishy here.

This game looks amazing. Can't believe people are complaining about graphics. That is my least concern.

I mean, I get it since no one has discouraged from having reveal footage impressions that were at the press event or otherwise. But at the same time, basing the quality of a game based solely on some target rendering years ago in a make it or break it attitude is a bit nonsensical.

I mean, I've seen the un-optimized renderings for REmake on the Gamecube. Sure as shit didn't turn out that way for there or the HD Remasters. Didn't make me appreciate the game any less.

I'm all for going at Ubisoft over trying to sell, more or less, a fantasy. As for trying to make it out that the game is anything less of what it is though over it...not so much.

That all said, I agree with Smash and Grief that things aren't adding up if that's truly maxed across the board.

Found this, errrr...2fps gif of the PC version on reddit. Oddly the graphics look better in the gif than the screenshots.

People are saying that this game looks way better in motion and that screenshots don't do it justice, so I don't know what to make of it anymore. I'm just going to sit here and wait a week to come to my own conclusion, because apparently this embargo has been lackluster footage-wise.

Also very possible that the beta has very different settings from the release version. Such as lower resolution textures to keep download size down, and any graphical features that aren't quite optimized yet or waiting on drivers to catch up, etc...

Textures and materials on those Ultra shots leave a lot to be desired. Why do the cars look the same as console?

Honestly, I call BS on those PC shots being at max settings....it doesn't look a whole lot better than what we've seen already on the Xbone.

We've seen those images from a few different sources as max, so I think we can take that at face value.

Something isn't adding up though.

After seeing crappy beta pics and leaks of games not looking great time and time again, and then seeing them actually look fantastic when release, you would think we would learn our lesson.

Wild Hunt being the most recent. Remember in the weeks before launch when it seemed like the PC version would look the same as the XBO version, and it turned out to be a mix of a bugged ultra setting, compression, and bad comparisons.

If you actually read the thread this is what he's saying:

My two favourite features are the wind affected snow, Which looks gorgeous.

And the fact that the game reads my G910 and has effects for the game. The F keys are green for none hostile areas, red for hostile.

The R key will flash faster depending on how low the current weapons ammo is etc.

Really nice touch.

what's good in the snowdrop engine in this game ,is that the weather effects are second to none, but they downgraded the whole shaders, it looks plastic compared to e3 2013.

We did some tests with the area with lots of players, It wasn't the players causing the fps drop like it does in an mmo in crowded areas.

But it was that specific area, even when alone fps would still tank.

Its odd as sometimes outdoors it can be 100fps and then you'll turn a corner and it will drop. Many settings to be changed though, I think a small patch could fix it

Quick Edit, Game looks much better than in those screens. Much sharper and the aa does a great job in motion.

Its cool, The AA really doesnt help in pics. Has a vaseline effect that when turned off, and the " sharpness " slider is changed can make the game look much better.

The images in the back of the truck are the first ones taken, The ones of the guy standing solo by the lights are the last ones taken.

This really is one of those games that can look great in motion, but awful in screenshots.
This. Exactly this, I personally love the game and pre ordered straight after playing.

So basically, it looks great, not as good as the E3 reveal but looks better in motion than the screenshots suggest.

I hope they unlock the shader options and the textures are higher res in the final version but I doubt it because all that will result in is complaints from people saying they can't max the game out on their gtx 970's at 60 fps (no shit).

For anyone who doesn't know, it appears that there's a lot of options for visuals on the console versions including Chromatic Aberration and Sharpening.

Can't wait for the Beta next week!!! :)

What we see in the Beta is what the final product will be, it's not like it's going to magically look better in a month. Which is unfortunate as it only seems to have gotten worse, just gotta hope for the best at this point.

Those burnt out cars are probably the ugliest models I've seen in recent memory, on par with some shit from the X360.

Y'all remember when MGS V current gen had the same geometry as 360/PS3 on almost everything except characters? Good times

There's a lot of things I could say about the game, but ugly is not one of them.

Is it a mindblowing PC showcase? No, but it looks damn good.

Noone would probably be complaining if they didn't show off a far superior looking 'version' at the E3s. Par for the course for Ubisoft though

It's really, really hard to make a target render for a new platform, as Ubisoft has been shown to do with a couple games announced years back. They haven't really done that with recent trailers though.

That's a terrible example considering the downgrade thread for that game did end up proving that it was for sure downgraded and that it took file adjustments to try and make it better but it was still missing a lot of the original trailer fidelity

I am willing to bet Wildlands will be downgraded similarly, it looks way too crisp and has some insane LOD.

At any rate, this type of practice is synonymous with the increasing budgets of today's industry. Games take a long time and a lot of money to make, so they need to show concepts early and over impress to build hype. A high budget game today would be suicide if it was dropped out of nowhere with no hype. So they create fancy CG or over estimate their abilities to program and show some insane looking graphics.
Then the hardware limitations hits them in the face like a truck and they start optimizing.

Damn I've missed two links to beta giveaways now :(

I always miss small windows of opportunity for any kind of giveaways so I gave up and bought a $1 beta access on ebay. If beta window is 48 hours, I should be able to get enough time to get a good read on the game, worth the dollar IMO.

Anyone interested in this for solo play?
Yes because I doubt any of my friends are going to pick this up. I am hoping the story mode will be decent.

My main concern is the dark zones or whatever they're called and getting griefed by other players. At least with Destiny it's easy to avoid PvP but in this, the dark zones seem like a big chunk of the game.

My memory might be a little foggy, but I remembered screenshots of the Witcher 3 on PC was leaked before release looked exactly like it looked after they release the game.

Gaf is my notebook gonna be able to to run this game on high settings (60fps)?
I'm seriously considering getting The Division for PC instead of the PS4 version.

It will def perform better than the consoles. Thebiggest worry would be whether or not it maintains a playerbase. Thats always a huge problem for multiplatform pc games

I wouldn't worry about the playerbase. It's been on the steam top sellers for ages and there are a million and one more ways to purchase the game. Most of which are cheap Uplay keys.

Can you please me tell me what is your notebook? I never saw such setting in notebooks yet.

It really depends on your resolution. You have a pretty damn good laptop and a good VRAM variant of the GTX 970. I could see high happening, with a mix of lower AA, no Nvidia PCSS shadows, and no HBAO+. High has a good chance, ultra no - all assuming if your resolution is sub-1080p.
