After reading one of the posts on the Division subreddit I think I've decided to hold off on a day-1 purchase until some of the huge issues with the Darkzone are addressed.

The way it is now is gonna leave the game dead in less than 2 months.

Has anyone been able to open a chest with a key? When I didn't have a key it requested for one. Now that I have keys any prompt it previously had is gone with no way to open it.

The last time I managed to open a chest was when I was like rank 10 in the DZ. Haven't been able to open one since hitting rank 12.

ERMYGERD!
As someone who lived in NYC for 4 years for college and who has lived just a train ride away my entire life, I feel it is best described as a visual amalgamation of NYC and nowhere near a 1:1 actual representation of it. Some of the more known landmarks are pretty accurate, but nothing is the real NYC as far as actual streets and neighborhoods. Just close.

So.. the same as they did with the Assassin's Creed cities?

This mode could really use a version of Oblivion's guards here - so rogue douche gankers can get a taste of that medicine too.

I actually agree on this.
Some AI police / National guard who stationary at certain point in map to attack whatever rogue agent pass there.
Like green zone or controlled zone in Eve Online.

Well if there's one thing you can count on Ubisoft is that they at least get that right.

And from everything I've seen and heard so far, this is an Ubisoft game through and through, with all the strength and weakness.

He's not ready for the Dark Zone. He's Vita wont stand a chance xD

e tu Cuco?

Actually the slowness of the Division makes it very well suited to Vita. I haven't tested it out, but I imagine it would probably be easier to play than Destiny in that regard.

I mean the game does have matchmaking like at camp Hudson. They should have a matchmaking hub right outside the DZ area so people don't have to venture in alone.

You can use matchmaking from any area outside the Dark Zone. Just bring up the map and press LB/L1. Only "issue" is that you'll only be paired with other people in the same area.

Right. The advantage is that you get the loot without spending time to hunt for it in the dungeons. Getting onto the chopper right then and there seems incongruous to the world/system and cheap. You should have to call your own chopper later/elsewhere so you can yourself be subject to the stress of being hunted down.

Someone who gets it!

It's a small change that would surely make a better experience.

ah, sounds like typical video game city compression. thanks.
Yep exactly. Still pretty much the best representation of NYC i have ever seen in a game, but it is not accurate as far as streets and neighborhoods. Your walk from Union Square to Penn Station is not going to be the actual walk you take in real life. I cannot wait for the day it is a 1:1 representation. However just not sure that will ever happen, as it does still need to be a video game afterall.
The landmarks (as shown in the video posted) they do a truly great job with though. So it no doubt feels like NYC.

So.. the same as they did with the Assassin's Creed cities?
Exactly. And I never said it was a bad job by any means, just was answering the question as to if it was a very realistic representation, which minus the landmarks, it is not all that realistic. Still absolutely amazing though, and easily the best representation we have had in a video game world thus far. And I get why they have to do it this way. Making an actual 1:1 representation of Manhattan and the 5 boroughs would be impossible with current technology. It also would probably be fairly boring from a gameplay perspective.

I have had dreams for years now of doing a driving game where one needs to steal a car in Newark, NJ (once the car jacking capital of the world) and drive it to the Bronx in NYC to a chop shop without getting arrested. I always envisioned it being 100% realistic, as if you know that area and the drive, it would make for an amazing driving video game. I have never been convinced that a truly realistic representation of NYC would make for a good on foot game however.

Vanilla Destiny is such a low bar for story the bar barely exists, though. The bar is flat on the ground. The bar is a micron-thick pancake.

Indeed. Speaking as a person in a wheelchair, my chair would have no issue rolling over it. I do have big tires, but still, would be a small bump.

Yea only your squad should be able to use the extraction

So don't allow others to use it

Plus this allows you a come back chance because it'll display there name when they extract and gives you an idea of where they went

I don't either. it's all about saving the city and finding a cure. seems basic unless they drop in some twists.

The Infected will be Zombies, you heard it from me first.

I do kinda wish we had other shit to kill besides dudes in hoodies though and fitted caps.

I guess this video wasn't sponsored by Ubisoft.

I honestly don't understand people complaining about a beta that has been restricted so much. It's not meant to be more than a stress test/bug test. It's not a demo, it's not the complete product. It's not even Total Biscuit that sort of mentioned it, it's a host of people around the net.

We will, there are some hinted at high-tech enemies and such. We've only seen like 2 factions this far.

I wouldn't mind seeing some mutation people as this is a weaponized smallpox or something. Be cool to see a nasty side effect.

Yep, I feel like I already know the entire arc of the plot.

I had the same thought. Hell, the humans already have the brain dead run-directly-at-man-with-gun AI patterns, it wouldn't surprise me if you're fighting infected that do the same thing in greater numbers.

Some of the firefights you get into are really intense, but in general it does feel easier to remote play a TPS as opposed to a FPS. The wider FOV helps in that regard as well.

Having alot of fun in this game tho. At first I wasn't feeling it too much but then it all kinda just clicked. It's a different kind of fun from Destiny. Helps that most of the WIPE clan mates from Destiny is also on The Division.

I'm very surprised if level 2 and level 29 gang members look the same. It would make sense for higher level gangs being more hardcore, salvaged military gear from destroyed USMC outposts etc. There is dead soldiers on the streets in DZ which makes me think we will be seeing well equipped gangs at higher levels.

I think folks are a little gunshy after what happened in the Destiny beta. Everyone thought...Oh this is just the beta, more ideas will be implemented and fleshed out. Instead...It was the exact same as the release version.

That seems to the main arc of the story. I think they are also going after a humanizing size about how horrible the outbreak is, kinda of a walking dead style.

In general I hope the higher-level gear looks significantly fancier. I actually like the rag-tag look of the gear so far, but it would be a huge bummer if a level 30 jacket was the same shit.

true, there are hostage missions after all. probably show how fucked up the city is. I wouldn't mind more personal stories.

I understand people may be apprehensive, but are people really hoping this game will do something we haven't seen already? Maybe there will be some sort of zombie-esque curveball late game or some sort of raid implementation, or something else (or maybe not). This is a military based looter-shooter, it is not going to change gameplay-wise or mechanically from the Beta. So I hope people don't unnaturally raise their expectations on something that just isn't there.

I have a feeling that Destiny-GAF might get themselves disappointed if they are hoping this will reinvent the wheel or somehow be overall an improvement over Destiny (other than story-wise).

Yeeeeeah but Walking Dead is willing to go for it in a way that I really doubt Ubisoft is. We're not going to see really depraved shit in The Division, more like "Oooh, these guys shot innocent people! See how bad they are? This world is so awful!"

I really wish if you did the surrender emote, it would put you in a surrendering state to show that you have no weapons up and that your rogue state was accidental. Like when one player on your squad accidentally hits one agent, you all instantly go rogue and get shit on if you aren't ready. I wish I could just quickly be like, "my bad" and have a way to say I have no intent on being rogue. I guess people could slowly start to respect that surrender emote, but it would be cool if it actually changed the red rogue skull to a yellow one to show you are not trying to be rogue. This would only be possible if you haven't killed an agent. If you fully kill them, you have to be rogue.

It already got my vote. I gravitate towards TPS anyway. The beta was a blast so I can't wait for what is in store at launch and on.

I saw footage where you entered a building and there are dead guys being hung upside down at the entrance. seems we'll see some of that depending on the gangs.

Ok that's more than we saw in the beta for sure. I mean, that sort of thing is fairly pedestrian in TWD but I don't think this is a good comparison anyway. I don't even like The Walking Dead.

Yeah don't get me wrong, I enjoyed what was there and can't wait for more. I just hope most of Destiny-GAF and others don't have some sort of lofty expectations of this game being a "Destiny Killer". It's a military based TPS, with loot, possibly raids, and a neat new gameplay mechanic that is called the dark zone. It definitely isn't doing something that hasn't been done before, but for me personally, the location and the way it has been rendered is the biggest selling point. I've always wanted something like this based in a big city. Plus I will always enjoy any game which you can play with a group of friends it just adds to the atmosphere and overall fun.

TWD the series or comic? Because show is very tame stuff when compared to source material [read: comic]. If you are talking about show and how it's creepy, depraved etc. you are in for a shock if you start reading those comics :D That said Spec Ops: The Line is where all kinds of creepy and depraved shit is at, setting and story telling in that game is something else as a whole.

Edit: When I was exploring metro in DZ it did give me pause when I walked into massgrave. Or Northwestmost corner where is cleaners, all kinds of creepy shit going on in there when it comes to atmosphere of the place.

I totally agree. I think Destiny-GAF will ultimately be disappointed if they are simply looking for another "Destiny" game. Destiny is a FPS first, RPG second. The Division seems RPG first, TPS second.

Playing the beta (so some online stuff stripped out), I felt it was much closer to Diablo than it was Destiny.

Of course, I can forgive a game a lot of shortcomings if it is fun to team up with some buddies and jack around. The Division looks to give that, so it will be worth a day 1 pick up for me.
