The Division Beta Thread: Make Manhattan Great Again

I think I agree. I've not played co-op for ages as I was a bit jaded by them, but we spent hours last night just shouting and laughing our asses of, we were having so much fun.

Everytime I play with my friends it results in major laughing as we all go full Manhunt status Rogue and destroying a server of others now that we know the layout of the area so well.

It's always incredible when you have 7 people + on pursuit of you, you get rushed, and STILL somehow make it out with no med kits, no heal ability up, no cover fire, etc. Just your feet and a little bit of luck.

Like I said, the game cant seem to tell between a tap and hold(atleast on X1), so you need to double tap.
Thanks for posting that screenshot. It's the same on PS4; I knew it said hold. Took me forever to figure out that the game wants or needs a double-tap instead.

Has there been any word yet on what the "Monthly events and content" in the Gold Edition means? Will players be locked out of content if they don't purchase that version?

Will play some more tonight, but I hope there is more AI baddies or stuff to do that is not just killing rogues. DZ can be fun in spurts but what about farming gear other than searching for the rare rogue? There needs to be more PVE things as well. Obviously there will be a lot more missions in the finished game but after you finish the "story" there needs to be AI to kill or chests to farm or something.

Does anyone else wish there were maybe keychains and/or patches for the backpacks that you could also collect as drops? They would add a bit more player customization and could maybe even provide some stats as a sort of trinket.

Anyone else hate the Dark Zone? That shit is going to be a nightmare on release.

It's more of a nightmare now. EVERYONE is max level already.

On release, each area is level capped. As you progress the zones will get more and more devious both from the PvE side, and from the PvP side. PvE with crazier enemies, and PvP from more skills and abilities agents can do.

Once you hit the max level the Dark Zone essentially will reset and all the "capped" off areas will meld into one gigantic dark zone. This in turn will make all of the enemies the hardest in the game is what the devs have stated, and will make being Rogue even harder just due to the nature of hardcore enemies afoot, a giant space to go through to get to an extract.

optional area right? I went in for the mission objective and left. I have no interest in playing it unless I have a group with me in the full game.

Same here. I'm only going to enter if I have my posse with me.

Also, was I missing something or was there no execution style animation when they are downed?

Maybe I was just lucky, but I had a pretty easy time extracting solo in the dz yesterday. For the most part people would stick to one extraction point leaving the other relatively clear.

Just in case it wasn't clear, I would just run up to the outer edge of the point, scan the area, if it was clear I'd start extraction and run away and camp behind cover. Once the timer was up I'd scan again and if it was still clear, attach and get out.

Honestly, it almost felt too easy most of the time. With the much bigger area in the final version, I don't think it is going to be much of a problem for those who just want to get in and get some loot.

I don't get the complaints about the Dark Zone. Like Total Biscuit said, it's way more forgiving than your standard multiplayer survival game. The only time I could see it really sucking is if you have awesome loot and you get killed before you extract it, but for me that's part of the thrill. Y'all some softies (or more realistically just don't enjoy that model of wild west multiplayer gaming).

I think I read in here that there supposedly will be more PVE mobs in there. I found tons of PVE mobs in there though. I would get a group together (typically match making), roam the DZ for mobs, get tons of loot, and extract it.

Interesting. So introducing much harder AI into the mix, who will presumably attack the rogue agents more often, taking their attention away from just camping/murdering.

A lot of people don't like risk / losing stuff. They can't accept it as normal.

It's why so many people play games on "easy" and such a low % complete raids in MMO's / Destiny.

Surviving solo is a crazy rush, albeit very frustrating if you get into the wrong server lol.

As for the executions---nope. Just melee them with right stick click and they are done.

I'm surprised how little damage melees do in general though aside from when they are downed.

My thoughts exactly. It's the DZ! Enter at your own risk. I love it just the way it is. Not knowing who you can trust, hiding from groups, calculating when, where and how to extract your loot. Awesome. Have I been ganked holding some good gear? Yeah. It happens. Comes with the territory.

Then there is the aspect of the things we don't know yet.

As it is now the entire DZ is capped at 24 players but will this also be the case for the entire 30 zone? Thats more than twice the area we have now for 24 players making it even harder to find other players.

Alright I will try "match making" have yet to be in a group.

The only why I hate it is because I keep getting shot through walls.
I had plans on pre-ordering but since dark zone is mandatory to get good gear quickly I'll probably spend my money on something else.

Suckage...was totally hoping for some Last of Us finishers.

I'm very surprised at the dislike of the dark zone. But hey to each his own.

Is there no plans on "dungeons" or "raids" or something to get good gear other than the DZ? I haven't been following the game much aside from the beta.

But isn't this, like, exactly the point of the DZ? This constant feeling that you cannot safely extract stuff while other supposedly "non hostile agents" are still in the area. I kinda like it!

I have no issue with you not being able to extract loot and loosing it but the fact you can be killed on the extract spot, drop your loot and the rogue players immediately attach that loot to the chopper you've just called in seems a bit off.

If they had to then leg it across the map to another extraction zone or wait till your chopper has cleared off and call in one of their own on that spot would make the push/pull a bit more exciting.

Basically a rogue agent can't extract using a chopper called in by a non hostile agent.

one of the expansions sounds like a raid to me. another expansion sounds like horde mode. I think we'll be getting more stuff like that for coop in the future. both offer more rewards that are unique to them from what I read.

No offense, but have you even played the beta? The first mission is in a "dungeon" and you get tons of loot in it. lol

Massive has talked about raids, but it's nothing more than "yeah, we plan on implementing them"
And I'm just going to assume the dungeons are just missions since the beta mission followed the dungeon format.

While I think a lot of players are whining too much about the difficulty.....I agree with this. I was shocked you could extract while Rogue. You shouldn't be able too, imo.

I really liked the layout of the story mission, I thought it flowed really nicely and provided many different environments for shooting in the same mission

I do agree with TotalBiscuit when he says the game is hampering itself by sticking on that Tom Clancy name and setting.

This game would be miles more interesting if it took place in a futuristic cyberpunk setting. Throw in some androids and make it a story about Man vs Machine. Blade Runner-esque.

It'll be interesting to see what the developers do with loot to make them feel good and unique when the modern real world setting doesn't really allow it.

And yes, the beta is really lacking in any PVE content to give you a good idea of how the game plays in the full game. Every talent and perk is locked and only a few skills are available. They went too far in locking content out so no doubt a lot of beta players will come out feeling underwhelmed.

Well I mean the first mission was damn small for a "dungeon" also it was just an instanced mission, not really a "dungeon". That being said it is the very first mission in an MMO so I expect other missions to be more advanced.

I think it would be helpful to impliment a HUD effect to help identify former rogue, but currently not, agents. There is plenty of futuristic tech, and when anyone goes rogue they are temporarily disavowed by the division. Why the hell wouldn't they keep track of agent bad behavior and make it available to other agents?

Person has killed 2 or more agents that hour, their name is red. Person has a bar that appears above their name when you look at them. Displays a two or three color bar indicating their behavior in DZ that week, players killed are a red bar vs npc kills as a green bar, 10 npcs = 1 pc kill, divide bar evenly.
Player has attacked you that session, they flash once when you target them.

Ideas can be refined, but I find it silly the agency tracks how their agents act and mark them as killable, but offer no way to warn agents later that the guy/girl might be dangerous.

But that's the "reward" element of the risk you take in going rogue. I think it's an integral part of DZ. I don't think it;s for everyone as the mechanic behind DZ is designed to create stress and frustration when you get mugged. You stress about whether or not the pick up point is safe, stress about whether you should mug someone else, stress about whether that group of non-attackers are just waiting for you to make a move.

yup, very clear mission objectives and I like that you build up your base so there's progression. very similar to upgrading your home base in AC2

The part in the arena was 100% a dungeon. It's instanced, you can match make specifically for it, you can choose a difficulty for it, and you can keep running it over and over. It's no different than a dungeon in an MMO.

Has Massive talked about the dark zone player limit recently?
They kept bragging how'd it be 100 players, but the limit is 30 in the beta.

it'll probably support more players in final game. hope the performance won't be complete garbage. 100 seems crazy especially on consoles.

Like the idea of a revenge indicator for a set amount of time. 90 seconds?

Like rogue but a specific icon for that player who just killed you.

Maybe with bonus DZ drop like loot or extra credits.

And add crouch pls.

I'm very surprised at the dislike of the dark zone. But hey to each his own.

As a developer it's a tough tight rope to walk to appease all the PvE guys and PvP guys.

I know people who have yet to touch the crucible once in Destiny. They just do not care or want to try PvP. Not their jam. To each his own.

If they can position enough content on both sides of the scale then they are set. Or if they can find a great way to get people to go into the dark zone that would be great.

I mean the game does have matchmaking like at camp Hudson. They should have a matchmaking hub right outside the DZ area so people don't have to venture in alone.

Plus, on GAF, we can group up so that eliminates a lot of that frustration.

If there is going to be even more players in the DZ, they better really up the PVE mob count/respawn. Also, they need to allow way more agents to attach their bags to the helicopter rope because it sucks not getting to attach your pack to the copter you called because you got boxed out and it can only take a few bags. lol
