not gonna lie, I'm kinda glad the game isn't some barren wasteland like I thought it would be in TLoU from original trailers. saving the city doesn't feel like some impossible goal in the setting.

I've seen smallpox being "the division virus" before, but where does this info come from?
Everything i can find just refers to it being a virus with no actual name.
The lore in the loading screens credits Green Poison (the virus released in NYC) as a strain of smallpox
They also have a blurb for smallpox

I think the only thing we do know for sure is that its a weaponized virus. So who knows what might happen as a side effect to a eventual cure.

Based upon the game info...

SO why we got the electricity stuffs?

Just for variation purposes. Farming the exact same spawning soldiers over and over is going to get stale really quickly.
A lot of the stuff going on in this city makes no sense. I try not to think about it.

Also if you go into the safe house the guy on the radio talks a bit more about the virus.

Well the entire game isn't meant to spent in there. The DZ's are the variation.

I guess. The DZ just seems to be a place to go get loot and shoot other players. The PvP part of the game I guess. Just hoping they increase the variation.

Makes me think of Ulitma Online and going to the PvP zones to get more loot and materials. :D

I am also guessing loads of the audio/video logs have more info on the virus too.

Well what if some supposed cure that was worked on in the quarantined zone accidentally turned people? I mean, who knows, but there needs to be something more than hooded thug characters. lol

As long that "something more" isn't infected / mutants / zombies I'm good to go. Getting tad tired of those particular tropes now after years of industry pushing them, "We need something scary... lets do zombies, again.. yeah, that is good idea!"

yea, that's all we know for now, iirc. the next mission for Medical Wing was basically hunt down the guy who may be involved. I'm sure most of that will be clarified in full game.

Thanks, havn't seen that part and that makes me think that the cleaners got the right idea, smallpox is fucking nasty and a mutation of it probably won't be better in any way so no wonder they burn everything.

To be fair, the DZ isn't just a PVP zone. It's a PvPvE zone where you can PVP if you so choose.

I'm going to hop on later and play some more in the DZ. It scares me though to see Cuco in here being a
shill

kappa.

This game is great. I just hope that DLC from Fallout 4 or Destiny does not drop around its release.
Dont get ganked bro ;)

That's another minor beef I have...the lack of enemy variance within the same type of mob.

They can add mechanicals, and perhaps greater armor varieties for the bad guys. Or they can go the "infected" route and have them with minor deformations. Would that stray from the book though?

Maybe they could implement some kind of robo-cop mobs that were sent in to try and clean up the area, but they turned. Eh? haha

I guess time will tell what other types of mobs there are.

So I think I made a mistake by clearing out all the sp stuff and getting to lvl 8 before seriously trying the dark zone stuff. I feel like I'm really under geared. The enemies in there are definitely bullet spongey (which I don't mind since its a damn rpg) and they hit really hard add to that the fact that I'm pretty terrible at console shooters I'm not making too much progress money or xp wise.

I have been able to extract what little gear I did find though, I get killed a the drop zone every time, but for some reason people wait until I attach my loot. I guess that's nice...

Yeah the mobs in the dark zone can smoke you if you aren't geared or at least in a group.

You could run the hard story mission to gear up. I didn't spend much time in the DZ before level 8 and with stuff I either got in the mission or bought at the base they die pretty quick.

I still wish there were some kind of keychain and/or patch attachments for the backpacks. Something extra to collect and customize the character. With or without stats.

EDIT: late responses:

As someone who lived in NYC for 4 years for college and who has lived just a train ride away my entire life, I feel it is best described as a visual amalgamation of NYC and nowhere near a 1:1 actual representation of it. Some of the more known landmarks are pretty accurate, but nothing is the real NYC as far as actual streets and neighborhoods. Just close.

I lived in NYC on two occaisons for a few years each time. While I didn't spend a TON of time in the part of Manhattan that this represents, it feels really authentic. Minor details are off (e.g. wrong shape of street light), but that's about it.

I'm really looking forward to messing around in the Flatiron and Union Square, which I'm far more familiar with the details of.

ah, sounds like typical video game city compression. thanks.

I'm not sure if anyone addressed this, but it's MUCH better than the baseline for this sort of thing. The scale is great, and the whole thing just comes off far more believable than any other "video game version of a real city" I've seen. I mean, i wasn't around for revolutionary Paris, so maybe ACU is spot on, but this is way better than "oh, cute, the 33rd st post office looks pretty much like the real one and is in approximately the right space given how compressed the map is". It's more like "Well, shit. This feels like really walking by that post office on a snowy day."

AngryJoe asked dev about this. He got all awkward and didn't give direct yes or no answer, just said that maybe they should ask it from writers and what they are willing to say.

The Division: UK.

It would be pretty awesome to get an expanded world over time but I think its just a bit beyond Ubisoft.

Haven't had too much luck with those yet in the dark zone. The group's are always spread out or disband very quickly.

I've had pretty good luck. I've grouped almost exclusively with pugs for there and, for the most part, we've stuck together, took out mobs and got lots of loot. I did get the occasional idiot that would randomly shoot a non-rogue and get us all killed because of it, though. lol

This virus is worldwide, or just in the US in the time of the game?

I'm really hoping it's just NYC. Think about how utterly hilarious it would be if the rest of the world was just truckin' along while NYC is this weird, fucked up place where people are constant--. Oh, wait.

But seriously. It'd be hilarious if it was just Manhattan that got fucked by the virus and everywhere else is fine.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Man i really wanted to get those outfits, but those are for console versions only :/

Hopefully you can still get them later in the game.

Does the Gold Edition give you both the Hazmat and National Guard sets?

Keep in mind it says "Early Access to:"

That should mean you can still get the National Guard set in the game even without the Gold Edition. Just sayin.

I'm calling it.

Virus is from a nefarious Agency hell bent on the city's destruction in order to rebuild a better world, with order, peace and justice... They'll be putting troops on the ground when they realise The Division is halting their progress.

I'm really excited to see how the full game starts. I expect them to show everything from patient zero to everything-goes-to-shit in a 5+ minutes cutscene. Maybe a playable portion from the view of a family going through hell? Leading to the establishment of dark zones, sending out the first wave of agents and so on until we finally get in control of our own character.

I'm not expecting much enemy variety, the setting just doesn't lend itself well to that.

It's going to be different factions of human enemies.

When it comes to the endgame loot, they really need to make it so you can't buy the best stuff from the vendors unless it's an astronomical amount of credits. Otherwise that would kill the Dark Zone grind pretty damn fast. Content is definitely the questionable part of this game's longevity.

I'm still buying the shit out of this game though, it's really fun.

if you're in North America (maybe SA too) you can get all of those outfits for free on PC as well as Console (the ones from that first pic)
