The Division Beta Thread: Make Manhattan Great Again

You don't need to incentivize going Rogue through currency, there's already the item incentive and the general douchebag incentive. There needs to be a risk to the risk/reward system, and if you could profit via currency from going Rogue, then there's really no risk.
agreed. Once we hit the full game, I think the DZ will work quite well. We'll see how level 30 DZ goes a few weeks into release

It's a kind of social experiment. The first 3 days I ran into mostly nonhostile players. Some servers were quiet with players just trying to kill mobs and extract. Other servers were total warzones. It's up to the playerbase how a specific server will be and I believe it be more or less balanced (but I hope they do tweak some things based on player feedback before release). Incentivizing rogue behavior even more turns the entire thing into a lame death match with no variety

the sequel should go full on day after tomorrow, not sure how it would work gameplay wise but fuck it I love that movie

I'm just curious about the Destiny folks, did you like this game (the little that was accessible)? Was it what you expected? Did it fall short? Did it exceed expectations? Is this the game that will replace Destiny for you? Why or why not?

I remember seeing a ton of Destiny-GAF before beta release, so I'm just personally curious about your status post beta.

It was both good and bad. I'm definitely buying the game, but I do not really feel very hyped about it and am 90% expecting to stop playing within a month or two.

Mostly honestly because Destiny has shown me that I just don't want to spend hours grinding for gear anymore in games, just doing the same thing week after week. In many ways if I had never played Destiny I would have probably been way more into Division, but after Destiny I feel like Neo and I can "see through" the artifice.

I felt the same way about MMOs after world of warcraft, and have never really gotten into any later MMOs the same way I got into Wow -ff14, elder scrolls, B&S, etc.

My most disappointing things about Division is how wonky the controls felt, how meh I am about gun play, how I much prefer a faster paced run and gun game like call of duty or destiny to the slower Ubisoft-style Division movement - it really just feels like Far Cry or Assassins Creed in another skin - and the lack of things to interact with in a giant world. Goddamn it, I want to spend hours trudging up and down skyscrapers in Manhattan, Die Hard style :(

The things I really did like was the entire twist of the way the Dark Zone worked, wandering around the parts of the city that were open and felt fun to check out, the entire exhilaration of extraction and seeing someone run up, coming across all the random stuff like echos or phone notes (too bad we can't read them in beta), and the fun of playing costume barbie with all the skins drops.

OK....Tom Clancy's The Division: Agent Origins shorts are some of the best advertising for the game since the Halo 5 Hunt The Truth stuff. Really damn good. Just love seeing how the Division is a thing made up of people and different services. I just hope they translate some of this into actual meaningful gameplay.

You never know what they may do if that Assassin's Creed movie does well.

Yeah, I hope it does well...because this could be a better movie than AC imo.

I finally watched the trailer for the game, thought it was very well done.

I want this game on PC, but all of my friends are going PS4, because they don't have a gaming PC.

I tried the PS4 beta right after the PC beta and jesus was it jarring going from 60fps to 30. I'm not sure if I can do it. Felt like I was playing so slugglish.

I agree with all you opinion as I had said that before the beta : the game need more pace and animations, I feel too slow and clunky. But as everyone said here : this is RPG not action game, so STFU (to me) and just enjoy the game :)

way less cheaters on consoles if you plan on doing MP stuff more often, imo.

I have both, but there's no way I can play on PS4 now after playing at 1440p on high. So I am going PC. Happy to play together with you. Ubisoft ID is miamijaaz

Unless Ubisoft/Massive implements a decent Anti-Cheat, I'd go with consoles because there were just too many reports of people cheating.

Then again I'm mostly a console peasant so take my opinion with a grain of salt or something.

Edit: replied to wrong person.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll wait to see if they get some good anti-cheat stuff in there. I played most of my dark zone stuff on the PS4 so I didn't get to experience the rampant cheating that seems to be getting reported.

IMO this earns points over Destiny for how easy it is to find friends anywhere on the map and instantly join them. Also, matchmaking.

I chose not to play much during the last couple days of the beta, but I mostly enjoyed what I played and look forward to more...

What I don't understand, however, is how you are intended to find loot in the Dark Zone. Are AI mobs intended to be quite rare, to increase the incentive to attack other players to steal loot? I found my time wandering the Dark Zone to be incredibly boring... empty streets with no AI thugs anywhere... visiting the infected zones on the map often resulted in finding no one.

I'm worried that drops are hard to come by, forcing you to take on others for their stuff, resulting in people crowding around the few stationary pick-up zones. Am I wrong?

How does one grind the Dark Zone, exactly?

Supposedly the AI was scaled down for the beta and there will be more going on in the DZ during release. I'm guessing they wanted to test the PVP a bit more than players just doing PVE in the DZ.

I pre ordered both versions. Just in case.
Some of my friends bought the ps4 version but i'm not sure if our schedules will work. So if i'm going to play solo i'd rather do it with great IQ.

it definitely helped turning the sensitivity up higher on the ps4 for camera and aim.

Not sure what level you went into the darkzone but i think the level effects the ai, when i went in at level 7 there was barely any ai and they were all purple and weak, in the level 8 bracket there were elites all over the place and items were pretty easy to come by, tbh tho the gear really comes from the vendors in the dz with those dz credits. By the second day of the beta i had all purple armor and 2 orange guns with purple attachments. Seems like a pretty one dimensional game mode

Ok, that sounds great, but...

... THIS is FANTASTIC!

I am VERY happy with my pre-order right now. This game could not have been further off my radar 3 weeks ago... now I'm just super excited for release!

The future of The Division should be multiple zones around the world with their own Division's running around them, The Live Action videos kinda hint at them being in the background until needed, so I am expecting/hoping that eventual Division sequels push into other countries. Hell, would love to see some DLC expand into newer zones but I am expecting US focused.

i didn't really like the beta, it had its moments but they were few and far between, definitely impacted my anticipation for the game negatively, so much so i cancelled my pre-order and will wait to see how the full game unfolds/how many friends get it to decide.

guns in the same class all felt too similar, their perks were boring, the world is boring (probably impacted due to being a beta), i hated going from one place to another (queue jogging simulator joke), enemy variety was poor, it felt slow, no crouch button, etc. only really had fun when it was a full fireteam in the dark zone and that only lasted so long because going rogue and being hunted/stealing loot also has a limited short appeal and there were no team pvp matches

all in all, no, this game does not come close to destiny in fun factor for me. if bungie had its expansions roadmap shit together, i would not even look at it. as it is, i'm still on the balance on whether to get it as a crutch for them drought periods.

Very much enjoyed the Beta. I went from a "meh, looks ok" to a day one purchase.

I guess my pros and cons will echo everyone else who played, but I'm really excited about the world building and exploring the game fully.

The DZ is wonderful; I love how it helps encapsulate the online gaming sub cultures that have sprung up in the last year. You've got the trolls, the guardians, the risk/reward aspect too; it makes for a wonderful play ground. Throw in random mobs, more NPCs and an objective or two, and i think it'll be the highlight of the game.

Incidentally, I'm LTTP and I'm watching 24, from the beginning. The Beta coincided with S3, with the virus. It was great to have a pre-outbreak scenario married with a post-breakout worst case scenario one too.

I went trigger happy with screenshot key. Had around 200 shots, trimmed it down to about 60 and that to down 20 with few good shots left out. In release I need trim away all possible elements, even radar from get go so can get cleaner shots. PC build with otherwise max out settings @ 1080p, but only few shots have PCSS on instead of just High shadows. Pictures at below and rest of 20 can be found here; http://abload.de/gallery.php?key=kUIaZvh5
