And that's unfortunate because the gunplay is pretty bad lol. I played through the closed Alpha on XB1 with friends and tackled the available playspace and darkzone... it's not horrible... but fuck the gunplay is forgettable-tier at best. And that's a shame because the eerie backdrop and some of the areas are truly gorgeous. Sadly i have a horrible feeling this is going to sell pretty well than totally flop for Ubi.

You don't enjoy it so now it selling well is cause for "a horrible feeling"?

Wtf? Considering the team over at Massive, just a shitty thing to type.

Will play this when I get home from today. XB1 folks add me, D4rk Legacy.

I really hope this isn't another Destiny but hopefully I get to play and get a proper feel. I wonder what endgame will be like on this, the RNG loot drop in Destiny was criminal at times and the grind was ridiculous.

I interpreted it differently. I'm pretty sure he means he has a 'horrible feeling' it's going to flop in the end, after a promising start.

But probably we're putting effort into a post that isn't quite deserving of that kind of attention.

Huh? No i'm pretty certain lots are calling for The Division to "take over Destiny's core population" and the like. I dont think it will and i feel bad for them because they deserve a hit and Destiny really needs competition. I dont feel horrible as in "i dont like these guys because i'm not digging the game as much as i would". I honestly think there is potential but the scope has decreased so much that i feel another Destiny-at-launch scenario coming along.

Ah, that's a bit more clear.

One thing Massive is handling alot better than Bungie in that regard is what exactly is coming with the game.

We know the mission count, we know the size of the game, we know alot that for Destiny, Bungie didn't reveal until Destiny was released.

That one difference, I believe, will have quite the impact.

Plus it's on PC, so there's a whole other market that destiny has no part of.

This is my main concern after the feel of the gunplay and "RPG heath bullet sponge mechanic".

Not really a big concern for me, played a lot of these type of games. An the gun play looks decent.

I played maybe a dozen hours on XB1 of the closed Alpha and by the end of it i was truly burned out on city streets, sewers, rooftops and corridors that all look alike. This game would have benefited greatly from different areas around the city connected by maybe the train/subway system. Train to the nearby suburbs... train to the beachs etc.

Yeah lets just hope they understand this because this will make or break the game overall other then just balance and leveling an the Dark Zones.

And battling the same dudes... ugh, a TPS RPS with only human targets that quickly all look and feel the same... i'm worried about that too.

There is another fraction though -unknown- but still they should have added more enemy types. Stray dogs or whatever. More interactive hostage missions. Maybe puzzles of some such.

I''ll see how the Beta feels today and if it's all the same and i get tired of it real quick.

Beta seems like the same thing (area) with a cap of level 8+loots and side missions.

I'm not a fan of Destiny post completing all TTK content... but you gotta at least give it to Bungie for having a rather diverse "world" to explore... even it they completely overpromised/cut content for DLC etc.

I mean that's the differences between recreating new york and making up a game world with full on scfi elements and "invaded worlds".

Bold

But that was you're game experience so. Rather you wait for release or not is completely up to you. :)

Been rather fun so far, once I got control and was told to go to the first mission I took my time to explore a bit, found some pickups and a few misc items.

I play on a 720p tv and I have to say the game looks great and the jaggies are rather well hidden, either it's scaling down from a higher res or something is helping the picture, my tv has no sharpness or softness settings enabled so it's a raw image from the xbox.

And why's that? Care to share your opinion on what you've played so far? I'm up for discussion if you are.

Hey, I tried to clarify your post, don't look at me. But your last sentence was a little weird and unclear, at best. And there's better things to discuss than weird and unclear sentences.

You've since made yourself clear in a second post, so it's all water under the bridge now.

*high five*

More or less the same.

Since writing that reply I've taken a closer look at the map and tried to remember what was there in alpha, and I'm pretty sure there's an extra road or two leading up to the DZ that've been opened up that were previously off-limits.

Disable Chromatic Aberration in the options, and play around with the sharpening setting until you find a balance you like (personally I think the default 50% is fine, but someone else in the thread said they preferred it cranked up).

I'm pretty damn sure it's full 1080p on XB1. Took some screenshots with edges that I'd be able to pixel count before realizing that sharing was blocked, but eyeballing it the steps are perfectly pixel-for-pixel, so there's no scaling.

Alpha wasnt 720p so this is def. not. But its way more sharper than the alpha

Dynamic Global illumination was perhaps the most celebrated highly touted feature of this game engine, and the developers made a big deal about it in a 2015 promotional video.
It appears to be disabled now, at least on consoles.

Does anyone know if they left it on for PC?

Sad to hear, they could have just optimised it in different ways and kept the baked GI.

PS5/XB2 can't come soon enough

What about the graphics ?

Yay or nay ?

Looks good, but it is nowhere near what they showed before. At least on Xbox One it isn't. I shot up a car and it looked good, but not as incredible as in that demo. And the 'closing door' animation is wonky. I also had the idea that the environment could be shot up a lot, but that doesn't same the case. Apart from some bottles and paint cans and stuff, there isn't a lot that breaks down

Your intent was fine but I guess I noticed an overly defensive tone from the last part of your post. Sometimes we're guilty of seeing a snide remark and junior status and automatically assuming the worst.

All good here.

Yay or nay ?

It's quite a looker, there's plenty of detail on the ground like rubbish and snow footsteps, I quite like it but i'm only at the beginning.

Does the shooting feel like GTA5?

Or like Spec Ops: The Line?

Is it more "realistic"/heavy or more arcadey/floaty?

I can't compare it to those games as I have never played them but aiming feels good, you can tell they spent time on the aiming speed and acceleration to make it feel good in combat.

It feels like midway between Uncharted and the Last of Us. Not "realistic" by any means. Very "shooter RPG" or "arcade shooter" esq. Doesn't feel at all like a SOCOM in terms of "realistic" shooting in third person.

EDIT: I personally find the feel of the gunplay/shooting etc. very unsatisfying. You can tell it's first and foremost an RPG and not a shooter. That's likely where most of my critique lies. The fact that i went into it knowing it was a real world recreation of Manhattan in 1:1 and a Tom Clancy game so i guess i figured it would feel more like RainbowSix realisim than Uncharted arcade-shooting.

For anyone who played both, is this beta much different from the alpha? If there's not a lot of new content, I think I'm going to pass until retail

Tip for finding loot, when you are near a searchable bag or container it appears on the map as a blue icon, it's helpful since you can't just look for a glowing silver or gold chest like in destiny.

Browsing GAF nowadays, I think the days when mainly juniors made needlessly crude remarks are long gone :')

Anyway, I'm gonna play the beta on PS4 so I can't discuss specifics with you just yet.

Does the gameplay feel somewhat diverse? As in, is it only go to place, shoot stuff, go to other place, or is there more to it?

Do you feel anything could realistically be improved to 'save' the game from getting boring quickly?

PS4 beta will start exactly at the time I need to walk out the door to head to work... how cruel.
I'm going to be able to mess with my sleep pattern and get my DivGAF on before work. I have a feeling it will be more cruel to get a taste of the game and have to go teach math all day.

I haven't seen many comments on the cover system (though the thread is moving at an obscenely fast pace, I may have missed a load). I really liked the 'on rails cover dashing' in the Alpha - it was one of the hilights for me. Like GoW but better. What's the general feeling GAF?Looking forward to having more time with it over the weekend!

I like that there is an actual perk in the game that gives you damage resistance while you do the cover to cover dash.

I beat the beta mission and now heading to the dark zone, I don't think you ever run into other players unless you enter an instanced zone like a safe point or mission with matchmaking, so don't expect a destiny overworld in this game.
