THE POWER OF BUTTERSCOTCH BOTTOMS
Game looks great and runs like butter.

Running ultra 1080p on my I5 and GTX 970. The frames are anywhere from 40-70 fps, but really this is what makes the engine legit is, you cant tell. No tearing, studder, anything when it jumps and drops from 40 to 70, 70 to 40, anywhere in between. That auto vsync is doing some voodoo I tell ya, No input lag that I can feel when it kicks in, its invisible.

Great tech, hope they stretch it on future expansions.

which i5?

Yeah, there was no head gear armor slot in the game, mask was the closest one so there might be some heavy duty gas masks and stuff. Or there might be actual helmets as cosmetics.

I wouldn't mind if they were just cosmetics but it is making me physically uneasy when I play a shooting game and my character doesn't have a helmet on.

Loving the lighting in this game. The snowdrops on the car lights are amazing.

I don't know much about guns, but how effective are helmets at the ranges most people are fighting at in the game with the calibre of weapons most people are using? I can certainly imagine that against direct fire they wouldn't be all that helpful in this game.

Depends on the angle they hit they could ricochet off.

I like what I saw from the snowdrop engine. No visible pop in, the level of detail on characters and objects scales great with distance. NPC's appear to persist, gradually drawn into field of view without visible glitches as the level of detail increases as one gets closer.

The game grabbed my attention, I've shelved ROTR for now, partially because the beta expires soon but also because I'm having fun. I don't know if there is enough content at launch, I am leaning towards waiting a while after launch to join.
Potential is certainly there, Ubi may have a online shooter franchise on it's hands, destined to join COD and BF.

The building blocks are there to do magic with seamless multi/singleplayer transitions, it's up to Ubi to craft epic missions, which they definitely have the tools for, it's up to Ubi to make or break the game.

It's a beta and all that but always online policy is annoying, I should be able to play singleplayer while the server is down.

Of course not, but falling debris, shrapnel from grenades, falling glass, punches to the head, getting thrown against something head first, etc. etc.

The purpose of helmets was never to prevent executions.

Yeah, it's definitely higher than a lot of shooters out right now.

Yeah, that was my worry. As a Clancy game I am not sure it makes me want to buy, yet.

100% depends on weapon type, distance, and tactical position. I took someone out in about a second earlier with 2 shots to the head with a bolt action sniper, but if you're using like an assault rifle and the person is moving it can take much longer.

I appreciate that. But 2 shots to the head, with a sniper rifle, to kill? Was that AI or other player? Is there any difference between the two with TTK?

There comes a point especially in a Clancy game where it breaks the immersion too much for me to ignore it.

Damage is based on numbers. If you are under levelled with a shit gun it will do weak damage. This is an RPG, not a shooter really. Closer to Mass Effect.

Don't worry, if you drink water your bullets will do more damage.
Taste the immersion.

I hope they have some kind of twist in this game that they kept under wraps. Because humans as the only enemy, I don't see much variety in that.

Listen to the radio in the Darkzone saferoom. Lots of great stuff you hear then. Talking about private armies also and people trying to take advantage of the situation with those armies.

It's a Tom Clancy game, which are typically grounded in reality. There won't be aliens, zombies or any of that shit.

I can not join the BETA unfortunately but I am wondering about people's opinion of this game.

What does it do right and what does it do wrong? Is there enough in there to warrant the future purchase?

At the right time of day, when particle and lighting effects combine, this game can drop jaws.

Truly stunning stuff.

So it seems I played around 16 hours yesterday all told. At first I played it like a single player game and it was a lot of fun. A lot of the systems are evolutions of the other Tom Clancy games that I have loved so I feel right at home plus lots of guns. I did the story mission on hard a few times too with some peeps and that was good. Then I went solo into the Dark Zone and I loved it.

It's not outright chaos like some stupid deathmatch game where everyone is just shooting everyone. Things are a bit more nuanced than that and you can never be too sure if someone is going to try to kill you or not... except for the rogues of course. It seems like there were battle lines very clearly drawn between the rogues and the rogue hunters. I decided to side with the rogue hunters. While I totally empathise with rogue agents' desire for murder and mayhem, I do have my own interests to consider. So I sided with the people that weren't trying to kill me and take my loot. I was utilising a kind of scavenger style where I would lurk around the battlefield until I saw a good opportunity to pick off a rogue on low health who wasn't expecting it before vanishing back into the shadows. I managed to rack up a good number of kills this way although my hit-and-run style meant I missed out on the loot drop in some cases so that's something to work on.

All in all pretty great but I agree with others that the PvE aspect seems a bit weak at this point and there needs to be more going on.
