The Division Beta Thread: Make Manhattan Great Again

Argh! I had an invincibility bug in the dark zone and Windows 10 hit me with a BSOD :(
Barely had any time to fool around with it. Was planning on solo-ganking an extract too!

Edit: I recorded the previous 5 minutes when I noticed I had invincibility, but upon rewatching the video, I don't do anything noteworthy to initiate the bug. Hmm.. not looking reproducible.

Almost reached level 8 in story and think ive seen enough of that.

Cant say im a massive fan of the DZ multiplayer. Im sure in a decent group it may be fun, but solo sucks balls. There is literally nothing you can do by yourself in terms of getting loot out if a team decides to gank you. The fact that you lose everything you pick up and drop levels is bullshit.

In all honesty, I expected more from the game. City feels too dead and there are way to many buildings that are just empty with nothing of use. Not to mention the inability to vault or climb some objects, while being able to scale fences that are 5 times your size. Nope, cant climb that ladder, those 3 bags of trash are blocking your way... cmon. Doesnt make any sense. The gun play is horrendous. Even fully upgraded blues still felt like water pistols. There is no 'oomph' or 'weight' behind anything.

Presentation and RPG elements are the positives.

There is a game here, just not for me.

Played the beta and got stuck twice in the environment and had to quit out.

Graphics/image quality is ok for most part but wouldnt count it as good enough to be a plus point.. I kept seeing the same dog every other street. I can shoot the dog but not the NPCs?

Shooting feels like it has no impact/weight. Find the UI to be messy/ugly.

Although i like the DZ/loot concept this came feels generic.

Im out.

If you are actually teamed up, this won't happen.

Maybe they disbanded or something? Because they were blue dots and 5 seconds after being called Rouge they all ganged up and shot me :(

And it looks like I can't even be a bad guy. I don't have the guts to kill innocent players :( Had two people on my bomb trying to attach their stuff to the helicopters and I felt too bad for them lol

Jesus where to get all these goodies?! I'm still sitting at level 6 almost 7 in the story. I did all the (like 4) encounter/missions that come with the beta. Are y'all leveling up in story just by trying to find random enemy encounters?

Level 8 and then just farm DZ checkpoint vendors for best gear in the beta.

Yes, my favourite gun so far. Will definitely try and get one asap in the full game. Also got a really nice light skin for it so it blends in a bit with the snow :p
Is it a desert type beige one? I think I may have the same one, it makes it look sensational.

Anyway I'm with you there, I'm definitely going to find one as quick as I can come final release too. I wonder what other DMR/Snipers they'll have in the full game?

I wish I played the same game as you guys. It was fun for a bit but quickly got dreadfully boring. I really hope the city is packed with interesting things to see and do in the final game because wandering around collecting gloves and hats won't keep my interest for more than a few hours.

Exact same thing I did. Mainly hope the endgame in full game will be more complex. Right now you have no reason to actually extract loot in dz.

dz vendors give all the good stuff, just need to kill a lot of rogues and you'll be fine..

Generic was a bad choice of word sorry.

Boring/uninteresting was more in line with how i felt. Im going to have another go in bit with my mate. When playing a beta i normally get hooked quite quickly if its going to be a game il enjoy.

Right but how do you even get to 8 in the story? I'm at 8 in the DZ but I can barely find anything to level up outside of the DZ. Still sitting at 6 in the story mode. After you've completed the story missions would you just walk around until you keep running into enemies?

DZ farming for coins and vendor shopping for the most part.
8-8 bracket.

he means 8 in story level.

there should be enough side missions

did you talk to the officer in the camp? she gives you a couple side missions

read the message boards in the post office and base camp

theres someone else you can talk to in your base too .. she's just near the group of 3 vendors

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.
I could never invest in Destiny. Part of that was the lack of a narrative-driven portion of the story, but that is by no means a prerequisite of me enjoying a game. But the biggest issue for me was the requirement of a lot of time grinding, plus having to team up (i.e. committing to a schedule) is not something I can realistically do. But running around in a 1:1 Manhattan piqued my interest, and the positive reception is making me consider it.

I'm unlikely to get to play the beta, but can anyone tell me if a dirty solo casual like myself will get on with a The Division, or will I find I have similar issues as I do playing Destiny?

but again.....you can't use DZ coins in the story mode. And any DX exp doesn't transfer to story mode. So when you're Outside of the DZ did you get to level 8 simply by doing the stories? Cause it only got me to 6

Could you explain this because this game in my opinion is nothing like the last of us.

I'm referring to the city and atmosphere. I fully expect there to be zombies in this game at some point.

Edit: Maybe I'm playing this game differently than everyone else, but I'm not playing this game like an MMO and trying to grind to level X with purples as soon as possible, etc. I'm soaking-in the atmosphere and story (as sparse as it is).

Hope the chests in the dark zone aren't bugged at full release like they are now.

This I agree with. The game is very empty. Can't go into hardly any buildings. And I doubt that will change for the main game.

I feel the same way. It feels too empty at times. I like the concept but im worried that it'll wear out pretty fast for me. I think i'll wait and see after it drops to decide if ill get it or not.

Ahhhhh message boards. Must have missed them. I only had about 5 missions total including rescuing the DR. Ill look into that thanks

Had a good time playing on PC for a few hours today.

Main story should be fun, but I think the real enjoyment for me will come from just exploring and encountering enemies in the wild.

I hit the Dark Zone and it seems like an interesting idea. My only complaint is that when playing solo, it's far too easy to be killed over and over by groups of rogues. I think it'd be cool if you could form truces with other players. Or, maybe a way to play in solo-only lobbies.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

I got to level 8 outside the DZ by doing all the side missions and the story mission once. Not sure how you only got to 6.

You get level 8 by doing hospital on hard or all the side quests.
Outside of DZ that is.

All my gear is more or less from DZ credit vendor purchase.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
You guys really have to stop expecting "endgame content" with this game. Endgame is farming the dark zone.

Yeah, the fact that they haven't talked about it yet says it won't be anything special.

Hoping for the best. I've been downloading since midnight Thursday and was at 17 gigs when I left for rugby this morning. I don't have the fastest internet, but this is ridiculous.

Where can I read a good write up about what you do in this game. I've been watching some streams and I really confused. Most of the time it seems like people are just running from other people and there is some timer.

Couple more screens in 4k. This is one of the best looking games i've played, and I can't wait to play more when the actual game comes out. I do hope there is a bit more to the Dark Zone areas, however. Right now it seems like you just run around looking for random mobs.

You need to look at the boards in both hubs, and talk to the JTF soldier for sit-reps in both hubs. Will populate your map with side missions and encounters.

There is xp from Intel as well.

If your map is empty after that you can rerun the Hospital mission, or join up with others and get xp from helping them clear all the encounters and side missions on their map.

This game really feels like Destiny in terms of the overall package but smaller, less empty spaces. Dark Zone is probably the most fun in the game but playing solo is a nightmare due to gank squads and the focus on team play.

I replayed the story mission in hard 5 or so times and hit level 8 quite quickly.

I'm making a feedback post here because I can't on the official forums for some reason. These were just my ideas. Love them, hate them, whatever. Hope it's ok. Maybe some of you agree.

Audio:
Please reduce the volume of the announcements/etc. They seemed excessively loud even after turning down dialogue volume.
Create a custom PS4 Sony Gold headphones profile? (there were only TV and stereo system selections in the audio options)
While in PSN party chat and playing in a fireteam, when loading in there was significant stutter. (seemed to remedy once everyone loaded into the world though)

UI enhancements:
Please consider letting us anchor the stats portion of the UI (that is to the right of the character) in the lower left of the screen instead. It feels out of place in the middle of the screen. (coming from Destiny - full disclosure)
Also do not need to statically see the members of my team listed in a column on the screen. Could that info be tweaked to fade normally but yet appear dynamically if the fireteam member takes pre-determined amount of damage or is downed?
Could there be a timer appearing above downed teammates? Apologies if there is one, I did not notice it.
Could all fonts be increased via toggle? I'm not a kid anymore and know many suffering from the "squinting to read small letters and numbers" situation.

Dismantling items could be smoother.
I selected an item to junk/discard with L2. But upon doing so, the cursor moves down an item. I assumed, a la Diablo 3, that when I then pressed L3 only items toggled as junk would discard. I ended up discarding the item the cursor had moved down to AND the one that I highlighted. Is that by design? Let the cursor remain on the item designated as junk or ask "You are about to discard 2 items. Are you sure?"
Also, could the actual dismantle be initiated by a face button instead? It feels unnatural to navigate to items and dismantle using the same control stick.

Weapons:
Could there be options for single shot/burst fire/full auto in each weapon? I saw a MP5 with a burst fire feature, but every M4/MP5/SCAR should be able to toggle fire rates by default.

Movement:
Please let us crouch. And jump. Both necessary.
If climbing ladders can be done via face button and not the R3, that would also be preferable. (IMO)

Mission Conclusion/Loot Distribution:
Something our whole fireteam was frustrated with was having to backtrack to get to the street after a missions' end. Could there be a "back door" or ladder or quicker route back to street level? (or return to hub? building's entrance?)

Chests/loot drops. Could the chests be more clearly marked? I can't say how often I've walked past chests or items meant to be opened as they are both small on the minimap as well as the font on the item saying "Open." If the chests themselves were more clearly visible (the mission is clearly over, why make me go hunt for them) the loot could be distributed more quickly.

Enjoying the game, can come up with more ideas in time. Thanks.

I am on mobile so i am sorry if it is gonna be too brief for you but yes i believe yoy will find similar issues like Destiny if you play solo. I played a few hours today and i can imagine that you will get bored soon if you do so. But also after some time i formed a group and then the game became x10 times more fun.
