The Elder Scrolls Online |OT| of THE MOST HYPED GAME EVER

I will say that this game suffers from a real case of the boring-gears, at least in the light/medium category. I dislike games like WoW that basically turn you into a Vegas casino by level 40, but ESO so far has been a pretty endless progression of earth-tone leather armor. I love that each race has its own styles, but I think the visual progression is a little hindered by TES's relative restraint when it comes to any armor that isn't unique/daedric.

What exactly is the difference between windowed full screen and true full screen?

Good question.

I actually quite like the windowed full-screen mode. It means I can quickly and easily jump between Chrome and the game without having that annoying full-screen pause/issue I get with most games.

I've found most games run a tad bit better in fullscreen, plus BW sometimes fucks with multi-GPU setups and I really want to run this game in Crossfire.

Even at 1080p I see some dips when I get into certain towns (the trading post in Grahtwood is the worst, about 40-50 fps). I keep view distance pretty low 30-40... haven't really seen much of an effect of a higher VD, but the framerate dips like crazy 70+.

Then again a lot of that could just be CPU related. I dunno. Too lazy to test.

Hah. The Prophet's voice actor changes as soon as you leave The Tutorial space.

Weird. I guess they couldnt afford to keep that AAA talent on staff for the whole game?

Nice use of John Cleese though.

The Prophet's voice changes to what sounds like Jim Cummings, a.k.a half of the voices in everything ever, also Disney's Pete. He's not cheap.

Weird use of Jim though, I'm sorry but I don't care how much versatility that dude's larynx has, I can't unsee Pete anytime he talks.

Yeah my only complaint so far. The gear is pretty terrible looking. In fact, I've just been running a costume from a quest the whole game.

Welp, bit the bullet and bought the game. Didn't see that coming a week ago.

FFXIV did it to me first (twice?). Then SWTOR... God help me if ESO bombs. I never learn my lesson.

I'm not sure the negativity surrounding the game comes exclusively from the $60 price point.

It's the combination of the $60 entry fee and the $15 a month subscription fee.

Yup it's been pretty difficult trying to convince the people I game with to hop on board, have to break through the 1) shitty beta impressions barrier and 2) the $40 base game (GMG people!) + $15 a month sub barrier. So far I've managed to convince to people to hop on with me, and we've all been having a blast thus far. I know 100% the rest would enjoy the game too, but they're all too stubborn to give it a try.

Tis a shame. This is honestly the best MMO I've played and I've played a lot of MMOs. They just need to add a little more to the PvP side of things (arenas, smaller campaigns perhaps), fix the annoying bugs and the game is pretty much perfect IMO.

I think you'll really enjoy it, I know I have. Also if ESO happens to bomb, the game is on one giant megaserver so I have a feeling the world will still feel pretty populated, not to mention the fact that we are still 6-7 months away from the next WoW expansion. Most of these new MMOs are killed before they ever have a chance to get out of the gate because Blizzard almost always times the release of a new big patch or xpac with another MMO launch. ESO is extremely lucky, no matter how good this game is, people would not have given it a chance had Warlords hit around the same time--WoW just has a hold over most veteran MMO players, whether they'd like to admit it or not.

Though not going to lie, I'm always the dude that gets mega hyped for every new WoW expansion, but this upcoming one looks like utter dog-shit. They aren't adding anything new or exciting, the story is completely uninteresting, and they are taking a knife to the abilities/toolkits of most classes. What a great selling point. First xpac that feels like a step backwards (though it's still in alpha so we'll see what happens).

why are people so worried if mmos bomb? does that mean you wasted your money? if you just play the free month, you will probably have played it more than any other game you would have bought for the same price. If you enjoyed those hours... whats the problem?

Ill never understand this aproach to mmos like they are some sort of different animal that you MUST play forever to be worth it.

I bought Infamous Second Son. I like it alright, but havent finished yet. It was 70euros. ESO was 44 euros, and even tho I know for a fact I wont play more than the free month, Im enjoying it as a rpg, and im prety sure ill end up playing it more than most games I would spend 44euros on... so what exactly is the problem?

Maybe its because when I finish a game (a "normal" game, like Infamous for example) im done with it and move on to the next, but I never understood this view of "oh man they got me, I played it for 300 hours but now I dont want to resub so I wasted my money" with mmos

by the way Im not comparing qualities with Infamous and ESO, it was just an example of a "normal" game

I'm going for a full on healer to support groups.

Loving this game! The negative hype has only made it even more awesome to play.

What exactly is the difference between windowed full screen and true full screen?

maybe I'm speaking out of ignorance, but wouldn't a game running in exclusive fullscreen get a performance boost because of explorer.exe taking a rest, instead of working side by side? But like I said, it's been maybe twenty years I havent seen a game without such option, it's just a very weird thing to omit

True fullscreen you get the benefit of improved FPS. I have seen changes going from 40s to 60s in some games.

When you are running fullscreen windowed you are easily able to multitask. You can tab to a wiki to look up a recipe or send a message to a friend. Also, if you have multiple monitors this setting is a must since you won't be able to quickly tab (or mouse over to another screen) without a fullscreen windowed option.

Any Dominion GAFfers know a good farming spot for rawhide? I basically can't play until I get a new set of armor, because my current set is basically destroyed. I was planning on replacing it when I hit 10, but I haven't gotten nearly enough rawhide for that.

So I bought the regular edition of the game, and I'm loving it. I barely have any free time with work and being married, so I'm torn between just taking my time when I'm playing and rushing through things so that I can make *some* progress. It's a huge and beautiful world, and I can see losing myself in it, I just don't know if it's a good thing or not. In one hand, it takes stress off my mind after a long day at work, on the other I just feel bad spending X hours playing it.

The realities of MMOs I guess... I may just end of subbing and taking my time.

I've been following Force's Twitch stream, what do you guys think of his build?

I want to avoid spending a ton of time on a class I won't find fun, and then being forced to restart again. I've been thinking of following in his footsteps.

I don't play typical single player games these days. I only play MMOs and other multiplayer driven games with long lifespans. I play MMOs for the long haul, not to jump from game to game spending $60 and a few months of subs only to get bored and jump into another game.

I've been trying to find that new MMO that keeps me satisfied for YEARS. I haven't found one like that since FFXI.

Also for me it's not entirely about the money wasted, it's more that I could've spent that money playing some other game instead. I opted to buy this game INSTEAD of buying GW2, a game I already know I like.

Not to mention it's no fun to have all your friends jump into a game with you... have the game bomb, and you're the only one left and forced to involve yourself into another community. That happened to me in SWTOR. I was stuck on a crappy RP server with no friends because everyone I knew bailed.

So yeah, if I like a game, especially in this genre. It's bad if it bombs. I feel like I wasted my money and my time.

That all said. I can agree with your arguments on this game. I really like it, and the questing system alone is worth the price. I just want it to be a good MMO as well. I have no clue what endgame is going to be like. How often they're going to patch the game, etc. I should've looked into it lol.

I dislike this argument.

Lets not pretend that ESO is some sort of incredible, nuanced game with incredible new gameplay, graphics, story, dept, etc.

The reason I'm (and I assume we're) playing is because I'm excited about a massively multiplayer online version of the standard Elder Scrolls experience.

Without the massively multiplayer aspect we're all just playing a slightly less enjoyable version of Skyrim, no?

Well considering skyrim bored the hell out of me, I'd have to disagree. Enjoying this much more, I even preferred oblivion to skyrim too.

Thats fantastic news.

But dont assume everyone has the same wants and expectations as you.

I've invested money and time into this game already with the expectation that getting together with other like minded people will eventually make this a fantastic, one of a kind experience.

Right now, I'm just bashing skeletons over the head with a shitty sword and shield - it's not great.

Done the opening sequence today. Think I'm free to roam around now. Are there particular times the EU server is most active? I was considering hopping on it to play w/ Aldmeri Dominion. Bosmer darkblade, etc. Eventual archer.

Hit level 30 last night. I've never done the Daggerfall side on closed or weekend beta since that's the way my guild rolled and I didn't want to burn out... My god Rivenspire the 25ish+ area is amazing. Its a little ugly (suppose to be), but the quest lines here are amazing!

I really wanna play but I have two exams this week and can't afford to even install it 'cause of the temptation. ;n; I watched my friend play it last night and got way too hyped. I need more self control dammit.

Also probably rolling Aedric Melee DPS.

I gotta say so far the one thing I can't stand is the fact they don't have zones where the player has their own zone and no other players are present during quests.

Few questions about mounts.

Once you have one, can they die, can you lose them? Are there costs to make sure it doesn't die / feed it? I really want to get one but i don't wanna mess up and lose something so valuable.

So where is everyone going for build guides for classes in this game? I've already became aware I've sort of messed mine up by spreading too thin, so I'd like to see what an efficient playstyle looks like for sorc and for nightblade.

As long as people still play, who cares? SWTOR and many MMOs that have "bombed" are doing just fine with large player bases and continued game support.

That's what some people are going to like. The wild styles of other MMOs are a turn off for many others. The more realistic down to earth look of ESO is appealing for it's own reasons.

The percentage includes installing time, not just the download.

When I finished downloading the initial 22 gigs, the percentage was only like 20% or something

Yes, i like the fact that my character doesnt look like a christmas tree. Also, i find the armour really detailed.

Sure, which is why I said:

I just think that the medium armor progression so far is exceptionally low-key. It doesn't help that so far I haven't really found any interesting unique models, everything is just the typical leather jack.

You can have variety without slapping a light show on everyone's shoulderpads.
