Not sure I really believe this, but if so !!

As some of you know, I just finished up my third V16 on PS4. I don't really get into my builds, but id like to share that I have experience in a few different classes. I've completed all quests, collected all lore books, and have recently had a lot of success in pvp.

So I'm sitting at my office last Wednesday and the CEO of our company lets himself in. He's a fantastic boss, and is around regularly. He asked for me to show him how to do something on excel lol. If you look in my recent posts, that excel template of my night blade build came up when I opened excel. I quickly went to close the window, but it apparently peaked his curiosity. He asked me what it was, and I mentioned it's helping me with a game I play at home. His response once he realized it was for ESO: I HAVE A 38 Dragonknight!!!!!

And so it began, lol.

In about 5 seconds he transformed from a CEO to a 38 DK in daggerfall saying "hey ur armor looks kewl".

Seriously though, he asked me questions for three hours. We went over the following...

Why he should use both bars (he was only using a primary) I went over his class, race, weapons, passives, attributes, literally everything. He started taking notes. Lol he wrote down which skills to use on his bars, what to aim for on several stats, etc. He also wrote down my PSN, and we played that night..

So there I was, roaming cyrodiil with my CEO with no mount. I was on my DK, using the same skills I recommended to him so he could understand the timing and effectiveness of that play style. He caught on really fast, and we actually 2vX'd for a couple hours.

The questions from him have not stopped, lol. On Sunday..something really special happened. He called me, and told me he was happy that our shared interest brought us closer. He said, "I'm flat out impressed with your competence, competitiveness, determination and demeanor. I enjoy listening to you speak about ESO because you're a subject expert and you patiently taught me your play style. I'd like you to take all of those skills, and focus them on the new sales implementation in LA. Go understand what we're trying to accomplish, believe in it, and train the sales reps just like you trained me."

I was promoted to Western Director of Sales. I was an account manager before.

More likely version of this story: My boss looked at my screen while I was messing around with my ESO spreadsheet instead of doing work. I now have lots of time to post on Reddit.

But hey, maybe I'm just cynical.

The developers have scheduled an ESO Live show tomorrow, which hasn't happened before. Start your rumour mill.

I think they may push the next DLC forward, and/or go free to play.

Is the PS+ deal for the Imperial Edition + 5500 crowns a "good" deal? I think it's $70 for it. I was considering picking it up but wasn't sure how much use those crowns get and what they're worth.

Honestly, I wouldn't do that right now. There's rumours the game may go fully free to play.

There is an announcement coming up today around 5pm UK time. Note that it may not be fully free to play, yet. They may push the next DLC pack forward (was originally due at Christmas, but Destiny absolutely killed the player numbers).

Edit: they will be announcing new DLC.

So no announcement regarding the game going totally F2P in that regard, right? If I'm interested in playing the game, it's "safe" to purchase it?

No F2P announcement that I've seen. I'm honestly not sure if it's safe or not. I bought it on launch and I don't regret it, but that's just me. Does anyone know what the active player number stats are like?

You should be fine to buy the game. I think they will get a few DLC packs out of the existing setup (it did surprise me there would rumblings of free to play before Christmas). Ultimately I think the game is perfectly set up for fully free to play however - that crown store.

hm I may end up returning to this game on PS4. I do love ESO, but kind of fell out of it for the longest time. Is the GAF guild still getting a decent player base or should I seek our a new full time guild? Thank god for 5 guild system :)

I only ever see one other person on the GAF guild when I go on, and the fact that it's the same person every time makes me think the guild is dead. Check out Daggerfall Trading Co II.

Thanks for the thoughts on F2P - I'll probably pick this up over lunch and hope it downloads by tomorrow, ha.

One question though...How do dungeons and such feel on a controller versus M&K? I've never done the console MMO thing, so I'm not sure what to expect. I typically play tanks, so I'm wondering how targeting will feel without the use of a mouse to help me out.

In general, GAF guilds don't last in MMOs. There are exceptions, but you're generally better off looking elsewhere, IMO.

Even with an M+K it plays less like a traditional MMO (WoW) and more like an Elder Scrolls game. Think of it just like Skyrim but with visible damage cones/aoe/etc, ability cooldowns, etc.

I wish this game would have random social mini-games: some card game (Poker knockoff), a dice game (Liar's dice knockoff), etc.

Or a single-player game that involves finding cards and playing NPCs in taverns (like Gwent).

I feel like there needs to be something to do when I've been questing for too long and want some downtime - but want to stay in the universe. Fishing and stealing no longer cut it for me.

So I've been testing the next DLC for Elder Scrolls Online, called Orsinium, which comes out next month. It adds a new area on the map.

It's really good. If you mostly play single player and want a classic Elder Scrolls feel, this is the DLC for you. Everything scales to your level, so you can just dive into any quest and get on with it.

Additionally, the quests actually matter and you have a big impact on the game world.

This. When ESO first launched on PC the guild was great, but died pretty quick, same thing with the Xbox One ESO Guild and the PS4 ESO Guild. I was also in GAF guilds in other MMO's but they also lasted a short time. I think it is because people being part of this board are generally big gamers that other titles take the attention and they move on. I mean, if you take time to post on a gaming forum, you pretty much are a pretty die-hard gamer if you take time to read and post on a gaming forum.

I am in other guilds in the game that are going strong since day 1, but it seems any "GAF" related ones do die out pretty fast. But it is always good to be in 5 guilds this way you always have a group available to help if you need it.

still no text chat for consoles? c'mon ZOS, playing warframe with text-chat and it made realize how big of a commodity it is, and warframe is not even a MMO per se.

why are they so obtuse about it, just have a simple option of hiding the text-chat window if it bothers people so much.

ZOS is going all in on voice chat it seems. There's a new system coming with Orsinium.

Orsinium seems interesting, and I'll check it out at some point, but the November timing is bad.

After mainlining Destiny I gave ESO a go. Previously I had only ever gotten a char up to about level 10. Dabbled with alts ect.

So I got my Templar (love being able to heal myself) and gave it a solid week getting to level 25. Overall I really enjoy the game but man a lack of text chat is really hurting my experience. I have yet to find a guild because i simply cannot ever speak to anyone. The voice chat is buggy as hell. Vicinity chat seems to be completely broke. I get that they realized that not everyone has a console keyboard but why not include it as another option for those that do.

I can never just jot out a quick question. Guild chat when I did find one (and left) had so much background noise from people playing the game. Constant clicks, buzzes ect.

I often feel like I'm playing a diet version of Skyrim. a solo game except for the occasions assistance. This is the least social MMO I've ever played.

I really want to like it but I'm not sure I can handle the communication model.

I'm pretty sure the lack of text-chat killed the gaf community for this game in consoles, sometimes people just want to type the stuff they want to ask about in the guild chat instead of talking and interrupting some other people. there's a reason why even with all the technologic advancements in voice chat, text chat is still the go-to way to communicate in this type of games.

If ZOS too dumb to see through it, then that's their problem. I love the base game itself, but just shitty decisions along the way kind of soured my time in the game.

For instance, I had more fun with DC Universe Online, even though it's an inferior game to ESO IMO, simply because it has the basic features ANY MMORPG should have.

lack of global auction house is another strike against this game, the substitute (guild stores) is just shitty. trying looking back at this thread and see how much our guild struggled to get a guild trader. You are forced to join some huge trading guild to even get a chance to sell your shit, assuming the asking price for joining said guild is reasonable.

Destiny didn't kill this game, ZOS and their shitty design decisions did. And looking at the supposed QoL improvements in the Orsinium DLC none of what I mentioned is addressed, seems like they don't care, and well if that's the case then I don't care about the game either. You know how different this is from DE and Warframe, I hate to bring that game again, but DE is amazing with its player base and constantly add and improve shit in their game based on player feedback, there's a reason why the game is able to retain its player base for so long.

ZOS hired Vivox to incorporate its voice chat technology into the XB1 and PS4 versions of ESO.

Nevermind. Just read on the ESO forums that the article I got my information from was wrong according to ZOS.

http://www.express.co.uk/entertainm...lls-Online-Orsinium-DLC-Xbox-One-ESO-news-PS4

http://forums.elderscrollsonline.co...ing-on-new-voice-chat-on-console-for-next-dlc

Too bad. I think the voice chat works well as is and it is great when you are in a party with 3 others and you are able to talk as you fight through a dungeon. But a Chat Box is still something I long for when not in a party or in guild chat. It would be so much easier to type when selling items or like the pc version linking the item you are selling into the chat box so people can click on it to see the items. Perhaps that is the reason they have not done it because they don't know how to make it work properly where you can link items into the chat box.

I have not played the game a lot as of late. I try to log in every other day to do my crafting writs and get my mail from items I have up on the guild store etc. I also try to contribute to my various guilds to help them along. I still love the game and recommend it, but at this time of year with work and hot new games like Halo, Nathan Drake Collection, Tomb Raider, Forza 6 and I also have a gaming PC, it is hard to dedicate a lot of time to ESO.

I've lobbied heavily against text chat in ESO on consoles, and will continue to. If you want text chat buy a PC - any old potato PC can run ESO. Console is about social community through voice.

I'm really not opposed to keeping voice chat, but the current system isn't good enough.

One of my biggest issues with the game is that I can't be in guild and group chat at the same time.

why would you be against giving players more options? if the chat bothers you then just put in a simple turn off or hide chat window option in the UI options menu. Does it really take John Carmack, or some other coding genius to put something like that in the game?

I prefer text, to some guy's dog or kid making noise. Also give us the option to turn off area voice chat, and let it stay that way, instead of having to manually turn it off every single time I log in.

Again a bunch of wtf decisions, that snowball and then you just get annoyed and stop playing. Shame because the base game is pretty great, I like the battle system and pvp, and skill system.

This is idiotic. FFXIV has text chat on consoles and it's great. I also don't see how "console is about social community through voice" makes any sense, since there is absolutely no way to come into an area chat and speak above the 50-100 other people speaking at the exact same time. Voice. Chat. Does. Not. Work.

voice chat is nice during raids (trials in this game) or heck even the 4-players dungeons (though those don't really need, but it's still a good option), but not having text chat makes this game feel extremely lonely, and I see the cities are getting emptier and emptier. No text chat just kills any sense of in-game community for the game.

I don't know why anyone would be against having the option of text chat, makes no sense to me.

Man, if this didn't require ps+ I would be playing this a lot more. Haven't touched it in over a month due to not needing ps+ right now.

I get the policies but just seems like a missed opportunity.

Ironically, talking about the game made me fire it up again and I'm hooked. For all the crappy designs choices ZOS implemented in the console version the game is very fun. Combat is great, not having to adhere strictly to a skill rotation means that you can pick up the game after months of not playing it and have fun without the need of memorizing the optimal skill rotation of whatever class you are playing.

I still haven't tried IC, but I'm pretty sure I'll get Orsinium since it looks like a pretty substation DLC.

Just put text chat ZOS, not that hard.

Confused the pc thread with this one

My thoughts on Imperial City

Just bought IC and fiddled with for a while and it's amazing. The Imperial Sewers is like some horror game shit going on, specially when you solo it, you never know who is lurking around waiting to gank you so there's always that feeling of not being safe at any moment.

If Orsinium is this good, then I'm all over it. ZOS has made some shit decisions, but the DLC they are pushing is good quality stuff.

Also one thing that IC fixed is the lag in Cyrodiil, splitting up the server between two different big instances, in this case Cyrodiil and Imperial City, probably made it a lot more manageable for the pvp server to handle. Things are pretty smooth now, I'm very very impressed.

So the IC content isn't actually doable at level 10? It's just that you can "visit" these areas at that level but you clearly have to be in your VR levels in order to solo the PVE enemies?
