The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Discussion and News [Creation Kit released]

Mod Organizer. Of course.

Did the mod come with scripts? Or was it just an .esp?

Not sure if you can do anything. Try that idea you found but... eh, make sure you back-up your saves whatever you do.

I was going to suggest that maybe running the actual scripts that improve the place might replace the lost items but... well, no idea what those scrips are. Or how they work.

EDIT Me, i'd never dare to remove a mod mid-game. I have never dared to do that. Not at all during these 10 years or so i have played The Elder Scrolls games.

File just comes with an esp. There'd be a dedicated folder for scripts, right?

[EDIT] - I promised myself a few pages back that I would go through this run without touching a thing. This mod just wasn't at all what I thought it would be, and the author doesn't seem to be supporting it at the moment.

Yes.
In other words, the mod didn't add any scripts... Skyrim's script system is kind off... odd. Not sure if cleaning the save's scripts helps.

EDIT So, yeah. Not sure how Skyrim's scripting system works. In the old games, you could modify scripts with .esps, and naturally removing such .esps could cause issues. In Skyrim, not sure if that's possible.
Unfortunately i do not have Skyrim installed at the moment, i can't check this out myself. I reckon you're going to need help from proper experts.

Ah, thanks for trying though.

Did you try the save game cleaner? I'm just guessing it might not be able to do anything, but then i have no idea, so you're not losing anything. At least, not if you have back-ups.

Given the activity of this thread, i'd recommend putting your questions to either Bethesda's Skyrim modding forums, or Nexus' Skyrim forums.

Just tried it, didn't work.

I backed up the save though. I'll ask around on Nexus later, but for now, I'll re-enable the mod and just try my best to deal with it, I guess.

I was wondering: does the release of newer GPUs do much to affect what kinds of mods come out? For instance, has (or will) the release of the cheap 4GB 970 do much for the future of texture mods (or maybe even the future 8GB versions)?

Don't think modders have ever cared what kind of hardware people have. Some try to optimize their mods so that anything that can run vanilla can run it. Some make their mods as good as they can no matter what the demands are (presumably their system is the benchmark).

So I just built my first gaming PC and task 1 was to mod out Skyrim. It looks great except for this one smearing/blur issue I'm having with water. I've tried disabling all mods along with ENB (shift+F12). So I guess whatever the problem is, it's something that's permanently installed.

Can anyone try to help me figure out what's going on before I have to just wipe everything?

As far as I can tell, this is just happening with water. It might just be easier to spot on water though. It's also happening in the same spots each time.

Another example:

I'm using ProjectENB along with these mods (they're sorted in MO, but this is the only list I could export):

I guess I'm just wondering if someone else has encountered the same thing and can lend advice.

I would guess that it's related to DoF/depth blur. Try totally disabling it to see if that's the case and then troubleshoot it in the ini with any available options.

Thanks for the lead. Tried disabling each option in the ENB settings but no dice.

Gonna try to just uninstall then play through for the first time without any sort of ENB, game still looks improved considering I've only ever played on PS3.

Before you do that, try reinstalling water.

It's not an ENB option but a base setting in Skyrim.

Seems to be happening no matter what I do. I've messed with settings, deleted the entire Skyrim folder, etc. Maybe it's an issue with my GPU?

Did you turn off both antialiasing and AF in the launcher ?
Also make sure you are not forcing any aa or Af through your control panel.

Both of those Make the ENB not work properly and cause those glitches.

They're off in the launcher, I'll check my gpu settings when I get home.

Although I deleted my Skyrim folder and re-installed through Steam, so ENB should be gone right?

Just to add : if you got a Nvidia card and have Nvidia inspector installed ,be sure to check there also you are not forcing anything .

Can't seem to get rid of it no matter what I do. Gonna stop bumping the thread with it though. Is there a term for that sort of graphical glitch? PC gaming is new to me not even sure what to google here.

Try uinstalling video drivers and reinstalling. It looks like a driver issue if you have it with your vanilla game. Or try a different version of drivers for your video card.

On another note, anyone excited for the SkyRe's sucessor, Perkus Maximus release on/near the 11th?

Is there some sort of mod that will somehow show you the quests you never found/started? Because that would be very useful after completing the bulk of the quests.

Hey folks, just installed my new GPU (760, replacing a 460), and I'm about to fire up Skyrim and put it through its paces. Any particularly good visual mods I should grab? Haven't played since release, so I don't know what's out there. I did grab the Pure Waters, or whatever the top rated Steam Workshop mod is.

Is the original post still up to date? I'm about to start playing for the first time and would like to download the best mods possible for my first time through.

I just started playing about 2 weeks ago(i know, late to the party) and I find the "top files" section of the nexus to be immensely helpful. I scoured both the all time list and the past 2 weeks list and got a pretty good mix of mods.

Everyone with a decent rig should check out DynDOLOD. Fixes my biggest gripe with the graphics: the distant LOD pop-up. It's similar to the other LOD mods but... better. In the mod authors words:

"Other mods already use a setting called "NeverFade", but this means a full detail model that is always active no matter the distance to the player. These neverfades are updated to a less demanding LOD model if one is available. LOD models or full models, these are turned off at a large distance as well."

Adding rocks in the barren places (the tundra in particular) is needed, but being able to see fairly important ruins and structures that you wouldn't be able to otherwise makes this essential IMO.

Are these safe? I remember a lot of conflicting reports about gridstoload messing up the game until it is unplayable.

It's safe. uGridsToLoad would cause a lot of problems, especially when it came to some quests (they would trigger too early, because the NPCs were active at a further distance).

DynDOLOD works the same as the games normal distance LOD does (it just adds more stuff). It should cause no problems other than a bit of a performance reduction.

What are the recommended total conversions for Skyrim?

I want to restart playing Skyrim again after over a year of absence, but I prefer a new setting and environment, something non-dragonborn and non-stormcloak/imperial nonsense.

I am not sure what you mean with the first question . do you mean stuff like a combat overhaul .

For a new environment , you can check out ]Falskaar

I mean something that isn't based in Elder Scrolls lore, like Nehrim (Oblivion TC), but for Skyrim.

How "good" is Falskaar, in your opinion?
edit: just checked Falskaar, but it's a new landmass mod still taking place within "Elder Scrolls/Skyrim" setting and not what I mean

Pretty sure there ain't no total conversions beyond that Nehrim sequel.
TCs take a lot effort. I think neither Morrowind nor Oblivion had any TCs, ignoring Nehrim.

I recall vaguely there's a mod that change Skyrim into Mario Bros-esque fantasy land with funky 3D characters and animations, or was it Oblivion?

I have hit a snag .

I am currently using Mod organizer for a fallout nv playthrough and have LOOT set up to work with MO.

Problem now is that LOOT no longer recognizes my Skyrim install which was modded the old fashioned way with Nexus mod manager .

Could somebody help me to have loot recognize my Skyrim install again so i can sort those mods ?

Finally picked up Legendary Edition of Skyrim from GMG's sale price with 20% off coupon, but ugh....I knew this would happen if I started to look at mods.

This shit is just too overwhelming for me. I have no idea where to begin, how to install mods properly without breaking my game, what mods are needed or even compatible with the latest patches, what the must have mods are because there are tens of thousands to look at...it's just too much =/

Get the mod manager: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/modmanager/?

Have a look at these: http://skyrimgems.com/

You'll learn as you go, and this is basically what everyone uses now apparently: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/1334/?

For issues pertaining to the installation and maintenance of mods, I highly suggest Gopher. He's a modder who has worked on several near-ubiquitous Skyrim mods and has a fantastic series of tutorials about modding Skyrim.

Since Skyrim's last patch is over a year old, you won't find too many compatibility issues in that regard anymore.

Check out STEP for help if you're stuck. Skyrim Gems, as posted above, is a good resource for the best mods out there. You'll probably screw up a couple of times but, once you get the hang of it, it's awesome.

I definitely recommend mods like Climates of Tamriel, Enhanced Lights and FX, SkyUI (which adds the Mod Customization Menu), Immersive HUD, Realistic Water Two (or any other good water-replacing mod). Add things like Frostfall if you're looking for added challenge and/or added immersion. I have Frostfall installed but nearly all the exposure features and such turned off, I just like being able to set up camp at night, gathering firewood and lighting fires.

I'll jump on here to say, check out Gopher's videos. He can and will teach you everything you need to know. He did for me!

So... I ran into my first BIG mod problem today.

After a long while playing I finally got tired of the mod "Breezehome Overhaul" being bugged out (broken mannequins, weapon racks and cases), and decided I should remove it.

So...

1. I clean every item out that I want to keep, and place in chests elsewhere.
2. Makes a save outside Breezehome and shuts down game.
3. Turn Breezehome Overhaul off, starts the game and loads the save just made.

"This save relies on content that is no longer present. Some objects may no longer be available. Continue loading"

Sure I know that, YES continue loading.

4. Where the heck is Lydia, she is GONE, no longer listed as a follower, and nowhere to be found.

Not even with console commands can she be found.

prid a2c94
player.moveto a2c94

And I get teleported into Breezehome (Lydia's room) and she is not there, well she kinda must be since that is where the teleport command took me, but she's invisible and I can't talk to her to add here as follower again or whatnot.

Any good expert on things like this, how may I fix it so that I can remove Breezehome Overhaul and still have Lydia present in the game?

Clocking in on around 60hours, I do not really want to start from scratch, and Breezehome Overhaul bugs are annoying enough that I need to remove it IMHO.

You may be fucked. Breezehome overhaul is notoriously difficult to uninstall as it adds new scripts through all of whiterun. Even in game, there's a lengthy process for preparing the actual space for uninstallation.

Do you have any saves from before your attempts to uninstall?

Alternatively, you may want to use the console commands to kill and respawn Lydia, that may solve the issue of her being invisible.
