The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Discussion and News [Creation Kit released]

The only ones that would be at all relevant are WATER, Skyrim Flora Overhaul and Skyrim Mesh Improvement Project (SMIM). I'd try disabling all three and seeing if the problem disappears then re-enabling one at a time.

Actually it seems to have cleared up when I removed Skyrim Realistic Overhaul. That mod added more than 3gb of textures. Removing it has all but eliminated this frame rate drop. Its still annoying though because I have a gtx 580 with 1.5gb of vram and I only get the issue when turning in a new direction. The fact that the fps goes back up to 60 after shows my system can run it.

Anyone know of this issue/workaround?

I believe it's just struggling to load the new textures into memory. 1.5GB VRAM is a lot, but when you're replacing everything in the game with textures that are 4x the resolution, along with all of the mods I've listed above, some stuttering is inevitable as it moves large, large quantities of data in and out of memory.

My card has 1GB VRAM and I had to ditch the official hi-res pack because of stuttering. I don't remember if it happened specifically when I turned in a new direction, but it would hitch as I ran around the world and it had to load new data.

This game was definitely not meant for loads of mods, ENB and 2560x1440. Switching from 1080p my FPS tanked from a steady 60 to barely 30.

Alright, I just found this. For those who were looking for gameplay mods (not performance or looks), here's a comprehensive list :

http://www.skyrimgems.com/

Thanks for this page. I've installed Skyrim again and I'm giving Morrowloot and Run for your Lives a shot with an older save. Morrowloot especially is making my play through a lot better already.

Is there a mod that greys out places on the map you've already been to?
My game does this already. Black with white outline is a known location but not visited. Full white is visited. Unless you mean something else.

For anyone that's interested - I recently made a "Skyrim Mod Collection" video showcasing the best User Interface (UI) mods for Skyrim. In my video I go over SkyUI, iHUD, Categorized Favorites Menu, Unique Region Names, Shouts in Dragons Tongue, and a few other notable UI mods (especially a few underrated ones too)

Skyrim Mod Collection: SkyUI, iHUD, CFM, and More Essential UI Mods for Skyrim

Please note that the mods mentioned in the video are all separate downloads - its not one download with all of the mods in it.

I also made another Skyrim Mod Collection video - this time focusing on several distant detail enhancing mods - something that's not really noticeable until you try them =)

Full list is here, for those that don't want to watch or can't watch the video.

insane0hflex, thanks for those videos. I started Skyrim again after a long break and forgot which mods were the essential ones.

I have a question though, Realistic Overhaul or 2K? Which one do you think looks best?

For anyone interested, Vilja companion for Skyrim is out. It's one of the best efforts in Oblivion before so I can't wait to try this on my next playthrough.

http://lovkullen.net/Emma/SkyrimVilja.htm

YES, YES YES YES YES

I've been waiting for this for a long time now. It was a boomer when the modder that brought us Willow for FNV said she wouldn't be doing a companion for Skyrim, and I didn't know anything about Vilja so this is a sweet surprise.

Since there's more than enough armor/visual mods out there and Bethesda is bent on steadily providing high quality DLC, this are the kinds of mods that I'm looking for now immersion/voice acted companions mods, along with anything that improves cities and cloned buildings like taverns.

I'd recommend you try out this guy out too if you are interested in quality companions.

Also, interesting NPC's adds well voice acted lore friendly NPC's around the world to enrich immersion.

Ha, I looked at Emma's site at least once per month ever since she announced she would be making Vilja for Skyrim. I didn't have any expectations though, so imagine my surprise when I checked the site today and found out it was just released literally YESTERDAY.

Thanks for your suggestions. Are there any mods that improved the taverns?

It's a modded version of v4.4's DoF coupled with v4.9's SSAO improvements. You can download it here
Out of all the ENBs that I tried in the last couple of days, this is probably my favorite. Not only it looks great, but I also get 0 perfomance hit. It runs super smooth.

One question though, what's the line I need to change to increase the sharpness? I can do it with Imaginator by increasing the contrast, but it messes up the caves and dungeons.

PS: Again, great ENB, thanks.

Edit: Nevermind, forget what I asked. It looked kinda blurry because it was in the afternoon. It looks very sharp now.

All these mods make me look forward to a next-gen Elder Scrolls:)

Hopefully the animations will be something they'll work hard on to improve.

It seems like it's better to just avoid Steam Workshop entirely and go through Nexus. Is that a correct assessment?

Depends on whether you want a decent amount of simpler mods or if you want to load up with mods and have greater control over load order / configurations / etc

I moved everything to NMM. Set myself up with SkyRe and Monster Mod, going to dive into Dawnguard when I hit level 10.

Game is wayyyyy harder this way.

So I'm starting a fresh install of Skyrim and want to load this baby up with mods for a new play through. Last time I tried ENB I couldn't for the life of me keep it above 30 frames and I'm rocking an i5 2500K @ 4.0ghz, 8gb of ram and a 1GB 6950. Do you really need that beastly of a system to run ENB well, or was I just doing something wrong? Thanks!

I have an i7, 8gb ram, 560 Ti, and the framerate was considerably slower for me as well. I only tried it once. Got rid of ENB immediately.

The gameplay mods are so much more important for this kind of game.

If you experiment with different ENBs you find some that hardly impact performance at all. The main culprit with ENB and frame rate is ambient occlusions. Try switching those off if you are using them. IMO they do little and I don't use them. Many people don't use ENB at all and have a beautiful Skyrim game. Also lighting mods are pretty heavy on resources as well.

You can use 2k HD textures which I believe have a lite version. Vurts' Flora overhaul also has a lite version.

Edit: Try out this ENB and use the option no SSAO and no DOF. I got like like 1-3 fps drop max from this.

Superb ENB

I posted this in the Community thread not realizing there was also a dedicated mod thread. Was hoping someone could help me identify the mod that gives your avatar the fur mantle pictured here:

The armor is "Spellbinder Armor" by hothtrooper44, and can be found here (how freaking awesome is this, goddamn): http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/21228/

Thanks in advance. Definitely bookmarking this thread for future reference.

It's "Winter is coming" cloaks. Search for it on Nexus.

Besides Jasmine ENB, can you list what High res mods you are running? Are you using the Nexus mod manager for everything?

Oh boy, too many to mention. Give me some time and I'll post it later on.

Is there a way to make the Fonts bigger with SkyUI? I tried it out yesterday, but as far away as I'm sitting from my TV, I found it slightly difficult to read.

There's an update coming with 3 different font sizes I believe. They released an alpha for modders to test so it shouldn't be far away.

Or from the last page:

I personally like the Jasmin ENB coupled with a lot of high-res texture and lighting mods. Here are some of my screens with it:

So I'm getting a crash on startup after loading my game upon installing a plethora of mods. Is there an easy way to determine what's causing this?

This is a good place to start. Allow it access through your firewall so it can update the master list. If you can list most of the mods here then people would likely be able to help as well. Be careful with installing mods and making .ini changes. Some mods aren't made well or don't mix well with other mods.

Just ran BOSS, thanks! I had no errors and two warnings for 'SkyRe_Main' and 'Realistic Light - Addon.esp'. I tried disabling both of those in NMM and the game still crashes.

Yea, warnings can sometimes be about small things that aren't really important as well.

Realistic Light is giving you a warning because you no longer need addon.esp and you should go to the mod page and download the new version then its update.

Try to post up a list.

Are you using a sharpen filter or something? Sharpen filters really make a mess of the image quality. Other than that, looks good (although way too green/blue for my taste).

Re-installed Skyrim and all of my mods. Not having any issues now!

Hmm has anyone made a mod where it replaces a type of enemy with 'Jar Jar Binks' from the Star Wars movies?

Watched episode 1 - 3 recently and want to get revenge.

Hey guys, been a while since i played Skyrim im planning to return with my retired rogue but i had a question about mods .

I was wondering if there is any mods that add or modify the loot table so items from Cloak/armor/sword mods like Jaysus mods or Cloak of Skyrim are droped from monster or found in chest .

I do zero crafting in the game and most of the new items from mods are usually acquired from crafting from what i see
