Nexus Mod Manager makes it so none of that matters, you know.

Like someone posted in another thread, NMM is still pretty crappy and unstable. There's also the problem of many mods not being packaged to work with it, so you'll still have to fiddle around with loose files. I got enough of that after spending hundreds of hours modding MW and OB.
 
I've found that some mods simply don't work through Workshop. Specifically model replacement mods. I haven't done any texture mods through the Workshop, but I'd be worried about them too. Other plugins, like Moonpath to Elswyre, work just fine. It's weird... but I'm going to stick with Nexus I think.
 
NMM is pretty good, Workshop is terrible, manual installation is complete control (and very easy with .bsa archives instead of loose files).

I like NMM, but nothing will come close to Bash. Haven't used it since Oblivion though =)

For newest awesome mods, I'd highly recommend Footprints:

Basically, it adds a neat little footprint texture when you walk on a snowy surface. Great for immersion, and it dissapears after like 10 seconds. Works with almost all NPCs (deer, humans, sabecats, etc).

So I'm trying to download the force unleashed ENB, and I'm having a really hard time. Is there a key I have to press to enable in game? I followed all the instructions, but when I boot Skyrim, it still looks exactly the same. Here is a Pic of my Skyrim folder:

Put the d3d9.dll and the other enb files in the skyrim root directory

/steamapps/common/skyrim/

the d3d9.dll and all of the other ENB files should be in the /skyrim/ folder, where your skyrim.exe is

Awesome, I was waiting for something like this!

I recently stumbled over "glorious Grass" which adds way more sprites and makes for some awesome grass in combination mit lusher grass.

It comes with quite a fps drop tho (about 5fps in some areas for me).

Hmmmm, tried all of that, but still nothing. I think I'm going to uninstall it and try again. Seems so simple, but it's just not working.
 
Did you download the d3d9.dll from the enbdev website? Are you launching Skyrim with some other method than "play" on steam?

Yeah I tried that, I think there maybe a issue with where I'm either dragging the files, or the fact I also back upped all my game files on my other drive. So many it's launching from the other drive instead? I suck at this haha.

you have to check textures and/or BSAs and choose a profile (both dropdowns)

Is this the first time you've used it? If not I think it means that the textures already fall under the selected compression specification and that they can't be compressed anymore. I could be mistaken though as it could very well be something else. Try compressing further, if it works then file structure should be fine. You can revert the textures back by dragging the contents of the backup folder on to the skyrim\data\textures folder.
 
It is indeed the first time I have used it. I have some ENB settings in the skyrim folder - those shouldn't be disrupting this program right? No other mods, apart from Bethesda's own high res texture pack. So there should be stuff to compress....

ENB doesnt conflict with the optimizer, but in your case there just isnt anything to optimize.

The programm is designed to optimize textures from mods, the textures that come with the game are already optimized so it wont touch them.

If you want to optimize/change the resolution of the high rez pack you will have to check it under BSA.

Yes, certain mods can make that happen.

Please list your mods (all of them), so we can help you =)

I know its tedious, but its the only way we can sleuth out the problem for you
 
What are some good face/hair mods for Skyrim? I really dislike the stock ones.

All in One Face for female faces, I think theres like a "Young male" face texture that I like using, but XCE (Xenius Character enhancement) is a pretty good substitute for both.

For hair, I like Apachii Sky Hair, and there is also another hair mod called Cazy hairs thats pretty good too (converts a lot of oblivion hair styles to Skyrim, done pretty well)

Every time I boot up Skyrim, it immediately crashes to the desktop after the company logo

Disable either Claralux or lanterns of Skyrim and let me know

Last time I checked (like a month ago) having both of those on at the same time caused a crash.

Never-mind insane0hflex, I fixed it. I made a copy of the entire game, so I deleted all the files except for Skyrim Mod Manager, and copy and pasted the files I had backed up. Now the game is back, and I can install each mod, one by one, to see what works and what doesn't, but thanks for your help!

Ahhh I see. Is it worth doing? And how exactly do you use the BSA tab? Do I check all the boxes? HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa, Animations.bsa, Interface.bsa, Meshes.bsa, etc. And on the left there are three check boxes - 'Compress BSA', 'Unite internal files' and 'Mark BSA'... do I check all of those too?

Hey guys, I was thinking about downloading a mod that gives weapons unlimited charge (so you don't have to worry about soul gems). I was thinking about doing this because it seems like every few minutes my sword is running out of soul and needs to be recharged which is kind of annoying. I have only played about 20 hours so I don't really know how this will effect the game at all. I am pretty sure soul gems also have something to do with weapon crafting, but I rarely craft anything in RPGs so that won't really effect me. But maybe I am just doing something wrong because I don't really understand the soul gem system. All I know right now is that I am pretty much spending all the money I have on soul gems to maintain charges on my weapons because they deteriorate so fast.

Do the Black Star quest, that'll help you out.
 
It's important if you want the best use out of Azura's Star to
give it to the guy in Winterhold, not the girl at Azura's Shrine after you recover it.
You spend most of your time killing humanoids and not creatures, and only the Black Star can hold Black Souls.
 
So I just got a new Radeon 6870 and want to play Skyrim (I had it for PS3, but couldn't stand the glitches), and I want to get the best HD texture mods and immersion mods, but I'm overwhelmed. I don't mean to sound like a whiny, "but I don't WANNA use Google" type of person, but can anyone provide me with a brief list (I don't need links, I'll do the footwork myself)?

EDIT: I think I should clarify that I understand which ones are good/great going by the Skryim Nexus, but I can't figure out which ones can be used together, etc.

Is there a craftable weapons mod that adds glaive-type weapons to the game? The only ones I can find are ripoffs of Illidan's Warglaives from WoW, which are gigantic, glowing, and massively overpowered. They only come in one version so you can't even progress up to the WoW version.

Or are you talking about similar models like the Warcraft one, but less glowy and more realistic? AFAIK - none have been created other than direct model derivations of the Warglaives of Illidan

Just posting this here in response to some questions asked about my screenshots (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15) in the 2012 High-Res PC Screenshot Thread of Don't Use Imgur thread.

ENB

I am using "Sharpshooters Extreme Graphics Vision ENB" (link: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/15105) enb preset, but I have overridden the included enb d3d9.dll file using the newer 0.113 version directly from enbdev.com (link: http://www.enbdev.com/mod_tesskyrim_v0113.htm). The reason for this is that 0.113 was the 1st version to include proper god rays, which look awesome!

INI

I have uGridsToLoad=9 in my Skyrim.ini file (this loads more of the scenery around the players position, at the expense of performance).

MODS

Pretty much all of the mods I have installed were from Skyrim Nexus, using the Nexus Mod Manager, below is a complete list as screenshots directly from Nexus Mod Manager (click for full size):





In order to actually take the screenshots, bring up the console (` key), then I am using the "tfc 1" command, which pauses the gameplay and puts you into free camera.

MISC

In order to get the tattoo texture (link: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=41500405&postcount=9198) on the back of my character without having to use a complete custom body texture (didn't really like any of them), I am using a tool called "Calientes Texture Blender" (link: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/5737). This essentially lets you take any given png/psd with alpha transparency and easily overlay them onto your characters base skin texture, creating the tattoo effect.

HARDWARE

Somebody asked what hardware I was running and what my FPS are with all these mods enabled:

i5-2500K @ 4.5Ghz
ASUS P8P67 PRO Mobo
8GB DDR3 1600MHz Corsair Vengeance Memory
EVGA GeForce GTX 580 1536MB SuperClocked

Without mods at 1080p and no AA I am getting approx 80fps average.

With all the above mods and enb at 1080p and no AA I am getting approx 30fps average, so as you can see it hits the fps very hard.... but is still just about playable.

Also, don't forget to use the sucsm command

eg:

sucsm 1

to slow down the camera a ton so you can get the perfect screenshot.

other commands that are useful

fw 10a23a - partly cloudy
fw 10a23b - sunny

set gamehour to 12 - sets game hour/time to 12:00PM (aka noon)
