The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Discussion and News [Creation Kit released]

How are you measuring that? Skyrim Performance Monitor caps at 4GB.

I run 250 mods at all times, mainly because I'm too lazy to merge them, and the game runs fine.

Good to hear. Seems to running fine for me too atm. Well mostly. I still sometimes get this problem where the framerate completely tanks to about 10-20 fps, and I have to restart to bring it back up to normal levels. Would that be a memory leak?

Shame that RealVision doesn't look too good when snow is falling.

Without ENB

Would I have to adjust some settings to make it look colder when in the middle of a snowstorm?

Usually I can figure this stuff out on my own but I'm stumped here.

Basically my game keeps CTD on the load screen, I've tried disabling all mods tried switching SKSE to the non-alpha version but still no luck.
Any ideas?

Do you mean when you load a savefile or when you are changing locations ?

Try this :

Start a new game and as soon as you can bring up the menu . load up the save file that you want to play .

I know it sounds weird but this really worked for me when i had the same problem .

It does not get past the load screen, not even on a new game.

Try checking the integrity of the files. Something critical may have been overwritten.

Nah that doesn't work either.

I've just unchecked it from the load order
I'll try uninstalling the mods.

Yeah, try that. Also, I'd really recommend using Mod Organizer if you're currently using Nexus Mod Manager or something. It uses profiles, and leaves your main data folder untouched, so you can easily switch to a vanilla profile.

Seeing as how my game is completely messed up I think I might just delete all my mods and start all over again, it's easier that way and I'm too lazy to uninstall and spend days fixing this, most of my mods are outdated anyways.

Any links on using Mod Organiser?
I used it a while back and I got confused.

That's exactly what I did, uninstalled my mods, reinstalled the game, then just redownloaded everything with the new program. Here's the link.

Also, I'd recommend using this guide. Lays a good foundation for your game. IMO.

So what's the best AA to use with ENB? The built in Edge AA doesn't have a major effect, the temporal AA blurs the screen, and transparency AA seriously lowers the framerate in areas with a lot of foliage. SMAA helps somewhat, but the game still has a lot of jaggies when moving around. Is it essentially the trade-off for better visuals? Crappier AA options?

I f you have a beefy Rig , nothing beats downsampling .

You an always disable deferred rendering on ENB and enable MSAA but that takes away many advantages of using an ENB in the first place.

Edge (SMAA) + temporal AA looks great in 1440p, although DOF and AO needs to be disabled to get reasonable performance at that resolution.

Hmm, guess I'm stuck with what I have. Have a 2GB card (770), framerate tends to fluctuate between 40 and 60 fps depending on the area and how much is going on. Downsampling would probably make it unplayable for me.

What are some of the most graphically intensive mods? I know the flora overhaul mod is one, as well as the HD textures. Any others? I'm currently using Realistic Overhaul for textures, as I've heard it's better optimized than Skyrim 2K HD. Is that true, or should I switch to the lite textures for the latter?

So I thought Skyrim couldn't use more than 4GB VRAM? Or is that system RAM? I heard that Skyrim copies its VRAM over to system RAM, so that might have caused it to use too much, but wasn't there some mod that fixed / alleviated that?

Not that i am aware off .

Of course 8GB would be much better but for me currently 4 works well enough .

I managed to find a nice technical video about how ENBoost works.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9WLTY9R_5Y

It showed RAM usage getting cut in half (or more) with the change active (although it increases VRAM usage a bit). I guess Skyrim has more wiggle room for modding than I thought, although it might not be fully realized until GPUs with more VRAM come out.

Gopher is the man when it comes to Skyrim modding and issues .

Also for even more memory patches check this video :

The creator of that mod deserves all the praise he can get .

I remember being very interested in this patch because of the chance to have higher uGrids. What I was really hoping for was finally the ability to have a much better view distance with grass and other ground covers rendered out much further so that there just isn't a distracting line of bare ground somewhere off in the distance. I dunno if there was ever a proper fix for that though.

Try this :

Download Ewi's ini files here and search for.

fGrassMaxStartFadeDistance=

It should currently be at 11000 but you can increase it to something higher (max is 20000)

for trees i am not sure .

I remember some ini tweak guides showing grass at 20000, but even that didn't seem to be enough. :(

Have question here: I'm using the Skyforge weapons mod but want to use the aMidianBorn Wolf Armor retex but keep the former mods weapons. Installing through Nexus they both install with no overwriting but the aMidian weapon skins always take precedent. Is there any way to use only the armor from the retex (and Wuuthrad, shield of Ysgramor) with the skyforge weapons mod?

Oh ffs, I've been trying to find a reason for extremely blurry textures for days now, and reinstalled all texture mods in the process. Just now I looked to the Skyrim Launcher settings and look and behold, texture quality has somehow reseted to low.. Feeling really stupid at the moment :I

Edit: Oh and has anyone else had problems with BOSS lately? My master list doesn't seem to update anymore. Scratch that, I was using old version.

Man, I give up.

I've been trying to install HDT physics into Skyrim for days now. From what I can tell, everything is fully installed, but nothing is happening. Whatever, I didn't need it anyway.

HDT is just a framework. You have to install a mod that uses that framework to see anything. HDT by itself does nothing.

Did you download the hdt skeleton from loverslab or do you have xp32 from the nexus? And are all the files in the hdt folder in the skse folder?

Yup. As far as I can tell, everything is installed properly and working as scripted, except there's still no actual havoc physics. I could understand if the changes were crashing the system, but for everything to work perfectly, just without the expected result is weird.

Yeah totally. Takes what dawnguard adds and boosts it by 100. It's kind of amazing it is, it was so in depth that I got really sick of it.

Very nice. I can finally achieve my dream of being strongest after I've fed and burning to a crisp in the sunlight. Also nice to be hated again, no idea why Dawnguard removed that function despite making vampires significantly stronger.

Probably because it's a choice between full vampire role-play and playing the game somewhat normally.

Anyone having an issue lately where NMM won't begin downloading a mod after you've hit the download button in the Nexus? No error message or anything, it just never shows up on the download queue? Any idea how to fix this?

Yup I'm getting this with Oblivion right now, it's quite annoying.

Don't use it, it's a piece of shit. Use Mod Organizer.

But if you need to stick with it, do you have the latest update? I believe it's 0.49.7.

Dawnguard added stages to vampirism. If you don't feed for an extended amount of time, you're hated, but there's a gradual downshift in public preception based on when you last fed.

Click the download link again. I know, it's dumb. Started new Vegas over the weekend and I must have had to go through my download list 3 times before I figured out that stuff wasn't getting added correctly.

Hey guys, I'm starting to build my gaming PC, at least in my head, and I was wondering if the "Great" PC in the PC thread is good for Skyrim and some pretty graphically intensive mods.

Do any of the leveling overhaul mods work well and play nice with other mods?

I'm thinking of SkyXP or SXP etc. I can't stand the way TES games do leveling, so I can only play them with these type of mods. Not sure if they work very well, though.
