The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Discussion and News [Creation Kit released]

Missing dat ENB touch. ;p Looks lovely though.
I know, but I can't deal with the 10-20fps drop. I'm annoyed enough by the few stutters I get when loading zones...

I can't figure out why I can't squeeze more performance out of it. My 780 really should be able to deal. First person to say "too many mods" gets an arrow to the knee!

What mods are you using? Looks pretty good!

My system can't handle an ENB, so I'm running something similar to you. Been a while since I played, though.
Thanks! Here's everything you see on display in those shots, it's pretty standard stuff:
SweetFX
Pure Weather
Realistic Water Two
Ducks & Swans for Skyrim (for the duckies in the pond!)
Grass on Steroids (set to 70)
Lush Trees & Grass
SKY CITY & JK's Markarth & Dawn of Markarth (All three combine to create that epic Markarth!)
JK's Whiterun & Dawn of Whiterun
SkySight - Simply Bigger Trees
Alternative Smoke
Better Embers
Immersive Fallen Trees (Maybe? I don't know if that one fallen tree is from that mod or not.)
Dynavision (For the DoF.)
Less Intrusive HUD II (With crosshair turned off in Skyrim's vanilla options as I use (modded) bows with sights.)

The last screenshot looks surreal because it's a scene from a quest that belongs to the Legacy of the Dragonborn mod, in a new dungeon/worldspace. Not a lighting mod or anything.

The ENB I've been using (RealVision) has been pretty spectacular as it really makes everything pop, but it's been giving me framerates in the 40s and I really wanted to bump it up into the 50s range. I turned off depth of field which really helped, but what I didn't expect is that I actually think I prefer the visuals without the DOF. The great thing about Skyrim is how far into the distance you can see, and DOF totally ruins that by limiting how far you can see. Turning it off has allowed me to truly appreciate all the LOD and texture and weather mods I've installed, whereas before everything more than a few feet in front of me was a blurry mess.

It's always great when you can make the game look better AND get a performance boost.

Should take a look into sweetFX, it seems.

Man, transferring from NMM to MO is a pain in the ass. No idea if I'm doing it right.

Is there any reason to transfer over from NMM to MO? I'm using NMM and BOSS, and even though everyone says I should switch to MO and LOOT my mods have been working perfectly so I see no reason to switch over.

Yeah, I got tired of it and switched back to NMM as well. I can deal with reinstalling the game if everything goes to hell.

LOOT is a lot better than BOSS, though.

Anyone know of an ENB that isn't pitch black dark at night? I love most ENBs such as Realvision, but can't stand the fact that they are so damn dark at night. I mean, I understand how it's supposed to simulate realism but that's going too far in my opinion. I don't like the colors of Seasons of Skyrim and am currently using K ENB but finding it way too bright. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

I don't know if it was because of a mod but i loved how the nights looked with this Preset : http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/41470/?

In what way is LOOT better than BOSS? It's just for setting load order, right? And for the mods it doesn't recognize I can just go in and create a manual rule for when to load it.

What kind of magic LOD mod do you have?! Graphics at range is the worst thing about Skyrim!

LOOT is BOSS, they just changed the name. You're kinda running on an old version for no reason... They changed the name to reflect the fact that they switched from a tool that reads a master list to know how to order, to one that reads the actual plugins themselves to figure out what needs to go above what. You don't have to manually sort any plugins with it.

Its secondary features are diagnosing dirty mods and info like "these two mods have a compatability patch that you don't have".

There are a few LOD mods that make distant textures look nice. You're not gonna get 2K textures on them or anything, but stuff like distant mountains, trees, and land textures are improved.

Interesting. Maybe I'll give LOOT a shot then.

I can't believe this took over 3 years. I get that no one bothered with the alchemy table because lol alchemy sucks so bad, but everyone uses the enchanting table to grind. Maybe the loading screens featuring these tables will stop making my eyes bleed now.

Also, I'm surprised this dragon expansion isn't getting any hype on the youtubes and such. It even has a retex from the UHD Dragons team already. I think both of these are getting installed immediately when I get home. That cyclops dragon looks pretty freaky and I want to fight it right now.

Indeed, I was making a joke about how none of them actually make the distance look good IMO. That new DynDOLOD one might be an improvement, I'm waiting for it to get a bit further.

Very interesting thread - hadn't seen this before (but I have to admit I'm not here soo often) - subscribed :)

I started modding Skyrim 5 or 6 weeks ago, here's what my game looks like atm

Well, that makes me feel bad about myself... :(

That's about as long as I've been going and your screenshots just made mine look like crap! What CPU/GPU, framerate, stuttering situation, ENB, AA and lighting mod? And what is that, like uGrids 11 or 13?

So i've been running a character with Perkus maximus now for about 10 hours i think. While i have no problems with the mod or anything im wondering if that Patch thing was strictly for mod organizer? Cause i couldnt get it working properly, but my game still works as the mod intended.

Halp

I really had problems with altered uGrids, the only stable option for me was the default 5...

Hardware:
I'm using a Xeon 1231v3 together with a MSI 970GTX Gaming 4G (or 3,5G, lol^^)
My ENB used is The Grim and Somber ENB Malacath: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50501/?

Framerate is pretty much a stable 60fps indoors and something between 40-60fps outdoors, depending...

My mod list is waaay too long, something like 250 mods, if you're really interested, I'll post this incl. load order later today (I'm at work right now and don't have access to it)

Lighting:
I'm using Relighting Skyrim combined with surreal lighting outdoors and ELFX indoors (no enhancer)

Edit:
Btw. I really like your shots too, especially the Markarth one further up this page!

No it's needed for the mod to properly function regardless of what manager you used .

The patch alters all the weapons and armor + health of creatures and you both in the base game as in all the added armor /weapons in all your mods .

Oh, well fuck.
Am i gonna need to create a new character after the patcher? :( Was so happy with this one too, fucking god damnit.

Also how do i even do it, cant understand shit from the nexus tutorial, and every video i've seen so far is mod organizer, and i use NMM.

Yeah, Eirulan's screenshots looks a generation ahead of what my modded Skyrim looks.

I was getting bad performance with ENB and Lush Trees and Grass both on, decided to remove Lush Trees and am getting 30-50 fps and almost no stuttering on a 2GB 7850. This is of course up to you, but I would remove Lush Trees and use ENB, the graphics are way better this way.

Really, that's 5?! With that detail on the trees and mountain in the background of the lake shot? I don't want to be rude but I'm close to calling you a liar, sir!

Actually, looking closer, your ground looks as low-res as I expect Skyrim LODs to look, but your trees seem to not lose detail at all. What tree LOD? It might be something I've skipped because it doesn't have support for Realistic Aspen Trees...

Cool! You don't have to post your mods - though I find comparing mod lists is always fun for a bit of discussion if you're up for it - but it would be cool to see your ini files. Did you configure them yourself or did they come with the ENB?

What drives me crazy is that my computer isn't that far behind yours but my AA is shit and I have stutters. I do get 40fps outdoors and 60fps indoors, but I just cannot seem to defeat the minor stutter (especially in cities) or find an AA setting that looks good. It's crazy to me that one 3 year old game is seriously pushing me to upgrade my CPU... (Because I think that's a bigger problem for Skyrim than my GPU.)

Btw. I really like your shots too, especially the Markarth one further up this page!
I mentioned it above but it's a combo of JK's Markarth, Dawn of Markarth and SKY CITY. It'd be interesting to hear what kind of fps you get with Markarth looking like that, I think I drop to like 20-25 or worse.

That's one reason I normally dislike discussing on this forum - I'm silent reading a lot, but every time you enter a discussion as "Junior" I have the feeling I'm not respected.

It's a combination of
- Lush Trees and Grass
- SFO (+High Res Pines + AOF Tree LODs)
- TreesHD
Maybe something is changed via one of my many very small mods too I don't know (things like Hi-Rez plants and herbs retexture)
And maybe (don't know really^^) Enhanced Distant Terrain 2 does add to tree LODs to...

Grass is done by a combination of SFO plus Verdant

Here are my inis
Eirulan_Skyrim_inis_2015-02-05.zip

I use the "quality/cinematic" version of the Malacath enb, and tweaked quite a lot of it myself to get a good balance between performance and IQ.

I'll try to do a similar screenshot than yours and post the result here later :)
A performance tip when using a lot of HD textures... did you DDSopt yours? I optimized all my textures except everything related to my char and my followers.

Edit:
here are my mods, for everyone interested... I'm sure there are some things that do not make sense in combination or overwrite each other... :)
And yes, I'm using NMM for a reason. Seems like my PC is somewhat incompatible with this virtual file system hack Mod Organizer does, every time I tried a Mod Organizer installation I had CTDs even with a very light installation (maybe 50 mods) while I'm running my NMM installation with >200 Mods stable. (Yes I watched all of Gophers tutorials for MO)

Perma should be the very last mod you install .

Once youv'e installed the mod go to your Skyrim directory and look for a map folder called Skyproc patches ,

In there should be a file called patchus maximus .jar ( which runs on java , which is istalled on almost every PC by standard . ) run that and when you get a window popup click on patch and let it run til its finished ,

once done go and start up NMM back up and there should be a new plugin called PatchusMaximus.esp. if you di it correctly if you click on that esp you should see all the different mods it has detected under Master files .

Activate the esp and place it at the very bottom dead last .

that should make it work as intended .

As for your save file , it might work and you can continue to play as normal but the Mod author did say it is recommended to start a new game .

It is up to you if you want to take that risk .

Also out of curiosity , is there any reason why you are not using Mod organizer ?

It really makes Modding So much easier then using NMM.

Also for fun , to give an idea of how insane my current setup looks ( 254 plugins , 301 different downloaded files here is how many mods it has taken as a master file .

poor patch runner was busy for 20 min going through all those mods . :p

That SweetFX really does wonders, even on my puny GTX 660. I can't run an ENB, but at least the game looks a lot better now.

screenshot24668yxuym.png

Now I need a good outside screenshot.

It seems the reason patcher didn't work was because i didn't have java installed. Who'dathought.

Anyway, when im running the patcher it gets interuppted with a big blank error message coming up, the first time it was heap space, but then i ran that and as usual there was a black window for about 1 second and then it closed itself. Thinking that was how it worked i thought it was done, so i tried patching again. Now i was just getting a blank error message. Several people seems to have gotten this but i cant find any actual ways to solve this.

Help would be appreciated.

Edit; Perkus maximus is what i'm talking about, by the way.

Getting the patcher to run correctly can be a real hassle. First you need to double check which Java version you have installed. If you have the 64bit version you should probably uninstall that and install the 32bit one. After that make sure you you reboot your computer before trying again. If you're using Mod Organizer you should use the special MO .bat launcher via the Data tab in the MO client.

Ah, gonna try that Java thing! Realized the java i installed was 32bit. Also using NMM, so i im pretty sure i dont have to to through that stuff.
Gonna try this out, thanks for the help!

Svenskinvasion i min Skyrim-tråd! Tydligen säger vi nordbor att vi har blivit skjutna i knät när vi gifter oss och att det är därifrån Bethesda har fått det, enligt resten av internet.

Oh come on man... :(

Hey, man, it's just jokes. If you want full honesty I actually am fairly jealous and a little disappointed in my own modding. It's just jokes and games so it's not serious, just teasing based on my mild jealousy.

Thanks! I'm gonna pore over these and the ones EWI posted on Nexus to see what I can tweak over the weekend. I'll be damned if I can't push some more performance and beauty out of my setup yet!

here are my mods, for everyone interested...
I see you like equipping yourself and your followers with cool gear, but you don't have any Zerofrost armors! You should really check them out, they're the best-looking armors out there as far as textures and design go IMO. My current follower is wearing his Mavari armor with the black retexture and a Bijin Warmaidens overhaul and she looks like she's from some game from the future...

If you use Sexy Town mods with JKs Towns it looks great.

BTW Anyone know of a way to switch to MM from NMM? I use NMM but everyone yells at me for doing so even though I don't have much issue.

100hrs played... And slammed straight in to the wall, with a quest that's broken.

Rebuilding the Blades... Delphine says she will give the follower I'm there with the Oath, but nothing happens (and yes it's a follower that CAN become a Blade member).
And no one seems to have a working solution to fix it.

Just skip the step.

Oh if you haven't done it yet, add Death Alternative. It's a great mod for new play-throughs. It combined with a more difficult gameplay makes the game far more challenging.

I have raven witch and blood witch armors from Zerofrost, I think. They are absolutely astounding.
Haven't installed Bijin Warmaidens yet but plan it.

... Btw. I tried to do a similar Markarth shot as yours and noticed the details in the background aren't nearly as detailled as yours, I guess this is the price for only using uGrid 5 :)
I got 35 something fps using the enb and a similar angle than yours. This enb is really tanking fps, without enb I still get 60fps overlooking Markarth...

@ilnadmy
Your pics are looking pretty cool :-)
Which enb are you using?

Cool, thanks for checking! How about Markarth with those mods, though? Such a cool city and it was pretty cool to begin with.

BTW I ended up with better tree LODs now too. I couldn't use yours, but I found a combo compatible with Realistic Aspen Trees so now I have better trees!

Will bug me BIG TIME though, but it's nothing I can do about it (so I have to skip it for now), since there is no fix available for now.
You're unfortunately just gonna have to get used to doing it or having broken quests littering your journal... I've had to force like 5 quests by now, the worst one being Lost to the Ages. I hate it too, but it has to be done.

Ended up having to force the final step, use tcl to fly out (because the exit didn't trigger), use console to give me the item it was supposed to give me and in the end I'm stuck with a quest item I can never drop. Oh, and I didn't get my achievement for it. That was 4 hours well spent! :(

I should reinstall sexy boats.
Did you see the sweet new hotness in Skyrim boating, Joy of Ships?

That Dragon Soul Absorb animation mod is awesome.

Had to done down the settings on my SweetFX, the one I was running was making some parts of the game just night on invisible. Went with something a lot more subtle now, and I like it.
