The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Discussion and News [Creation Kit released]

Wow, I still can't get the Portal mod running. When the launcher opens up, I get an error message that says "Archive size bigger than entire mod! portal2mod.ckm may be corrupt!"

The only 3 files in the data files are the two texture packs, and Skyrim.esm

wow amazing I click subscribe it loads in 30 seconds..... trees in whiterun... :O :O :O

this is great I'll easily play this game for years and years.

Nice OP update Liquid!

Personally I think Skyboost and Tytanis should be removed from the featured section.

It's amazing how there are already around 150 mods on the workshop :lol

Damn, I must have missed Tytanis but I did remove Skyboost. I have some things I'm working on but Amular coupled with is not making me very productive.

The texture pack does seem to give the game a better look to my eyes. Maybe it's due to me not playing it a lot the last 2 weeks. Some shots

For those who have the Creation Kit installed - are there options for shadows? I don't know anything about how to use any kind of modding program, but if there's some way to put static shadows back in the game at a decent resolution, I'd work at it.

I think Bethesda's hi res pack with

Enhanced Night Skyrim
RWT Realistic Water
XCE Character Enhancement
Enhanced Blood textures

is the way to go so far.

So do these mods auto update, or will we have to re-dl and delete them as they get updated?

I haven't downloaded anything yet. Partly because when I tried I was getting 6 kbps and partially because I'm reading other people's impression, but from reading stuff, there should be a subscribe button that auto-updates stuff.

What's the consensus between Skyrim HD mod and the high-res textures pack? Should I stick with the mod, or go for the new textures?

The official texture pack is not a huge bump, but it's noticeable and there appears to be little if any performance hit. These are textures designed by Bethesda so they fit the art direction and intent of the game.

Here is a shot showing off the shield and a rock wall:

HD

Vanilla

Still blurry bit a definite improvement. I usually don't get this close to walls anyway. I have a few more, with wood, if anyone wants to see them.

This is not intended to be trollish, but I want to know if it's possible with mods to improve the melee combat so it's serviceable. Was something ever released for oblivion that improved that games combat?

Try verifying the integrity of the files.

Tried this and no go. If I fuck with unsucsrcibing/deleting the mod it shows up in the data files, but gives me a different error message that say it couldn't get the plugin. Open cities works fine, Oh well I can just youtube it I guess. All other mods I'm trying work.

This is why i am going Bethesda's Hi-Res pack over the Skyrim 2K HD texture pack.

Skyrim HD was completely wrong and had textures that didn't match. Solitute was fugly as hell.

I didn't even bought the game yet, but I already love that Steam Workshop and how easy it is to add those mods!
And wow, 189 already?!

Does anyone know how to disable the function in windows 7 that asks you if certain programs can make changes? I get this pop up every time I use steam, which is gonna be annoying with this.

Control panel -> System and Sequrity -> User Account Control

From there you'll be able to adjust when Windows notifies you about changes.

Eh, the texture pack I think was incredibly disappointing. You have to practically rub your face against a wall so you can take a screenshot so you can get out of the game so you can alt-tab back and forth to see the difference between the two, until you realize that 1) you're never that close to any object while playing normally, and 2) at that distance the "HD" textures look horrendously blurry as well. Playing in-game doesn't make a noticeable difference at all. It's practically impossible to look at a texture and say "yes, I have a photographic memory of what this texture looked exactly like before. Now it's largely the same except just a hint sharper". You have to compare screenshots to be able to tell a difference at all.

Oh well, at least it has next to no performance hit (I couldn't detect any myself). I guess this is why they kept it under wraps. :/

Is there a quick way to uninstall every mod I have so far? I did them all manually, and going through and deleting the files for each one would take quite a while...

Since installing the texture pack I'm having SERIOUS hitching and 2-3 second freezes while traveling around the world. I assume this is my computer having trouble loading up the new grids quick enough with the higher res textures?

Does this mean 1GB Vram isn't enough? I can't imagine any of my other mods would really overload like this:
Code:
Quality World Map
Believable Hair
Enhanced Distant Terrain
Enhanced Distant Trees Higher-Poly Skyrim
HiRes Legible Road Signs
Increased Character Height
Killable Children
Lush Trees
No NPC Greetings
Realistic Lighting without Post Processing
Realistic Ragdolls & Force
Realistic Water Textures
Skyrim Flora Overhaul (Hi Res version)
Skyrim iHUD
SkyUI
Wars in Skyrim 1.4 Normal
Xenius Character Enhancement

I deleted some ini settings and the stuttering got a bit better but it's still terrible when the game is loading up intensive cells like while running towards Whiterun. I'm I correct that this is a vRAM issue and not a general RAM issue? I.e. it's that my video card's 1GB isn't enough, not that my PC's 4GBs isn't enough, right?

Hopefully someone will find a way to optimize these textures slightly...my computer can ALMOST do it.

This is an improvement from the HD texture pack. Correct?

I don't recall signs being that detailed so i guess the pack is running. Stutering is increased, im wondering if using mklink and moving the HD textures to another Hard Drive my help the performance?

Anyone know what could be going on here? Fresh install, using only a few mods from the workshop. That looks like a texture that would be in the offical HQ pack. Also, how do I make my images not super huge?

I have the same problem. Noticed in Riften.

And re:above...are there any known ways to decrease stuttering? Lowering ugrids?

Using Bethesda's high res texture pack with other mods:

you must first disable the HighResTexturePack01.esp & HighResTexturePack02.esp from loading in the skyrim launcher or Nexus Mod Manager (or delete them), then edit your Skyrim.ini file found under "Skyrim\Data\"; just find the "sResourceArchiveList=" entry under [Archive] and edit it to look like this:

sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa

Can anyone help me out here? I tried out Confident's ENB profile, and it stopped rendering the grass (and hit performance pretty hard) so I uninstalled it and the grass is still not rendering. I have had this happen before and usually there is just something that has changed in the .ini file. I have checked both and everything is how it should be, any suggestions?

I'm confused on how to configure realistic lighting. Let's say I want a more red tint during dusk. In the readme it says this:

These are the tinting settings - in RWX format, so RGB but on a 0 to 1.0 scale, floating point.

Does that mean 1.0 is the maximum value I can put in? Another thing I want to do is make nighttime just a bit brighter with a blue tint, could I put a test value of 20 in the brightness and blue tint settings?

edit: er, do I have to run the patcher everytime i want to change the settings?

Only Bethesda can make a texture mod so buggy you have to go ini tweaking.

EDIT: Nvm, completely misread that. Thought it was talking about removing the stutter.

...which, btw, is happening to me and is driving me crazy. I've gotten a couple of CTDs too after trying to loot/opening up containers. Anyone know what's up with that? Could that be related to the texture pack?

So you just click 'Subscribe' and that's it?

WTF? What about different options and all that? Is it really that easy?

Edit - omg I can't keep up, so many mods!!! Wholly Crap!

Any help for those downloads you posted a bit ago on the russian page. I have no clue how to find the file?!?

Absolutely could be, they're pretty high res and that takes up a lot of video memory.

There are more mods every time I check the Workshop. Midas Magic is on it now, with a video to boot http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=7673.

This has proven to be a really great experience so far. I've modded all three of the modern ES games and this is the most elegant solution by far. My most wanted mods right now are extended shaders, for god rays, depth of field, AO. These exist for Morrowind and Oblivion but they require the use of script extenders, which won't work with the Steam Workshop because of the extra executable required (like SKSE). I hope this gets figured out somehow.

I also want higher res distant land textures, like Oblivion had. Skyrim's vistas are slightly marred by how close the land textures turn soupy.

Also it's cool to go to a mod's page in the Workshop and see that the mod's creator is in the Creation Kit at that very moment, likely coming up with awesome shitttt. I can't wait to see what comes out of this.

A simple question: Is there any way to search the mods on the workshop (other than displaying them by category)? Maybe I'm just overlooking it, but I couldn't see anything.

The high res textures aren't extremely noticeable, but they did seem to make the game look sharper overall. It's most notable on rocks and ground. My mace and shield also look better. I've only installed one mod so far, which adds a marker on my map for proudspire manor (or any other house you've discovered). A simple thing that makes getting to my house that much more convenient.

I've got to say, I was starting to lose faith in Bethesda after Oblivion and FO3; they weren't bad games or anything, but they didn't click with me as much as I'd have hoped. But after how good Skyrim was, and now this amazing mod support, I'm totally on board again. I was never a big fan of mods before, mainly because of how much effort was involved in getting some of them to work properly, but so far this system has been great. I'll probably actually check more of these out.

No search. Just browse. On the one hand, I'm disappointed in the Skyrim Workshop experience. On the other, I'm glad that Skyrim Nexus is still the best option. I think I'm going to renew my Premium membership for another 3months soon. :)
