The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Discussion and News [Creation Kit released]

Is it actually the case that everything is so goddamn dark, especially during nights? I've tried all kinds of ENBs, screwed around with their AmbientLighting values and even used Climates of Tamriel with brighter nights, but to no avail. Anyone got a solution or is it simply a case of too many mods and me needing to make a clean install? I'm seriously wondering how so many of these ENBs out of the box are extremely dark.

Skyrim started to crash after I tried to load a saved game so I uninstalled it before deleting anything that Steam left. However it's still crashing after being downloaded again, I've verified the game cache and it checks out, any help?

So, just started Dragonborn and I am getting pretty frequent CTD's....

Any well known issues that cause this? Mod Incompatibilities?

I have the unofficial patch installed. Also tried dropping Ugrids from 7-5, still getting the crashes.

For some reason every dragon I come across has the low-res dragon texture until it dies, at which point it briefly gets its own texture back before burning up into a skeleton. Really weird, kinda annoying, and I have no idea which mod might be causing it.

I also must've hit the limit for mods BOSS can sort, because I installed a few new ones and now the program has no effect again.

Is it me or are the Skyrim Nexus servers terrible? Every single time I've tried to get mods in the last 2 weeks the servers are always down.

They have been busy relocating their databases to new servers one at a time and did warn for expected Downtime.

A bit more on my problem with dragons. The low-res thing only happens to low-level dragons, like Frost or Blood Dragons, and even then it won't happen every time, just often. It'll also be very random, for instance, I encountered Alduin resurrecting Viinturuth near Windhelm. Viinturuth was assigned the Frost dragon texture, and kept it until he took off, at which point he started looking like this:

About halfway through the battle, I quicksave, and the game crashes. I'm pretty sure the crashing somehow has to do with the dragon textures, but I'm not exactly sure how. Anyways, when I reload the game and took off from my quicksave that made the game crash, Viinturuth got his normal textures back.

I'm pretty sure it's a mod issue, I'm just not sure what mod it might be. Here's my load order.

quoting my question from another thread
some questions

i have a sc gtx 580 with 1.5 gb vram, and i'm interested in using the Skyrim HD 2k mod, but as i understand it that would fuck up performance. assuming i can't still get 60 fps with full textures, i'm interested in the lite version, can anyone tell me what kind of performance i could expect with that version? could i still get 60 frames?

as well, if i have already downloaded the bethesda official texture pack, and can't get rid of it now apparently, how will the skyrim hd mod work with that? i've seen this exchange:
does this mean i can't use it if i already have the beth pack?

i don't want to install it because i'm not sure if it would overwrite things that i would need if i took a frame hit and had to uninstall it. also, how would i go about uninstalling it? and would i be able to to cleanly uninstall it and go back to the way it was before without it fucking up?

also i manually installed a few individual texture mods back around release and i don't remember if they're still installed or they were overwritten by the official texture pack but just thought i'd mention it in case that complicates things

hopefully somebody is using the pack and has some answers, thanks

You can choose what to overwrite and what not. If you don't like it, just getting rid of the mods usually does the trick, unless they actually overwrite the vanilla stuff you have. In which case, you might want to make a backup of your original data folder before you start changing stuff.

I have the mod, but I just can't get it to look that good...

That might have to do with my Climates of Tamriel: Winter Edition, though.

I couldn't find any videos of it so it may be, but the potential for it is fantastic.
Is it a watercolor mod or something? Looks a bit strange...

A volumetric cloud system. It takes data from the 2D weather systems and creates 3D clouds and weather effects to correspond with it, eg thick storm clouds close overhead or rain falling far in the distance. It's something that would do wonders for immersion.

Looks great to me though it does appear to have an exaggerated alpha sorting problem, and since I remember that being a problem with skyrim itself it probably can't be fixed. In any case I'm glad I'll have let skyrim mods (and dlc) ferment for ~3 years for my second character.

As you can see in that second screenshot, though, for a lot of users (myself included) it still creates white lines like that when the clouds appear behind objects.

So apparently there is a creeping glitch where becoming a vampire lord becomes increasingly glitchy/slow, until it ceases to happen at all.

The other night after not transforming for a good long while, I attempted to, nothing happened, but I was not able to access the character screen. Tried uninstalling the game and all mods, then reinstalling. Still same issue.

So I went back(losing 5 hours) to the last save where becoming a Vampire lord worked. I played that for an hour, and already the transition is becoming slower, and more glitchy.

There has to be a fix somewhere for this right?

Looking at the Nexus screens... that shit looks AMAZING! Probably slows your rig down to a crawl I'm guessing?

Halp? This makes being a Vampire unplayable. Save before become a vampire is over 20 hours ago....

God damn is there a single lighting mod that changes the lighting without making the game completely unplayable at night time?

I want to get back into skyrim after getting the DLC and want something to give the game a bit of a different look but everything I try just makes the game super dark at night

Since this is the Skyrim mod thread i might as well ask for your opinion on my character .

ive put a lot of work and mods into it and i am quite pleased with it .

What do you think ?

Raxious, that happened to me too whenever I ran Evga Precision. I had to turn it off for it to work.
Are you using a similar program?

Ok, so I ended up following this list of mods:

https://teksyndicate.com/videos/logans-skyrim-mod-list-and-enb-settings

and finally had everything working. So I decided to through on the Real Vision ENB as well. However, now when I start up my game, I get the logo and it tells me that the ENB is installed. However when it loads the main menu it just goes straight to the desktop, no error or anything :s

Almost 100% of the time when the game tries to load the main menu and crashes it is because of a mod incompatibility issue. The main menu is when the game itself does its first check of whether or not all mods are compatible, and if there is a critical error it will kill itself. If you verified that it worked -before- ENB was installed then make sure you grabbed the ENB helper mod. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/36318/? It is required to sync up weathers and another feature, both of which are used by RealVision, I believe. I know weather definitely is if you got the climates of tamriel version.

Also if you haven't already you should download BOSS and use it to sort your mod load order, manually fixing the rare few that don't show up.

Can Skyrim Mod Organizer prevent BOSS from seeing all my esp files? For some reason, both the "Data" option of the Skyrim launcher and BOSS only reports the main game and the HD packs esp files.

Go to your Documents\My Games\Skyrim folder and delete your Rendererinfo and back up your ini files, open up steam click on Skyrim let it reload the option setting. Now copy your backed up ini files and overwrite.

Maybe that might help.

Try and see if your files in this folder aren't read only
windows 7
C:\Users\(username)AppData\Local\Skyrim

XP
C:\Documents and Settings\(User Name)\Local Settings\Application Data\

Holy Crap look at these numbers.

Skyrim Launcher can only detect the mod files from Data folder, BOSS probably too. Mod Organizer doesn't install the mods in Data folder but in Mod Organizer\Mods\Mod_name.

Still nothing, I'm this close to just reinstall Skyrim, and start out with the ENB and build from there.

Are you running a program like Fraps? I know from experience that the D3D9.dll makes the game crash when you're running it with Fraps, and always the moment the game menu loads. There's other 'unsafe' programs, too, like Xfire, but who the hell still uses that today.

No, I'm not running any software that should conflict with Skyrim, I already checked that multiple times.

Fuck it, I'll just completely redownload Skyrim.

Edit:
Completely reinstalled and started with the ENB first, and it actually works now. Now to see if I can actually make the game look good.
