The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Discussion and News [Creation Kit released]

Crashes at startup are generally a hooking conflict. Are you using anything like MSI afterburner, Xfire etc... with an on screen display? Even something like fraps?
Nope, I don't have any of those.
Do you see any mod that could conflict with enb on the list?

Aren't you only supposed to have one of the .esp presets selected at a time - you seem to have them all ticked.
Of Lanterns of Skyrim? It should be only one. But it looks like only the lvl1 should be loaded, as it's the last one.

Mods can't conflict with ENB (or at least not in a way that can cause crashes), it's a renderer that doesn't interact with the game logic in any way. Just to clarify, you've got a Skyrim install that works perfectly, but if you place the d3d9.dll, the enbseries.ini and the shader .fx files in the directory of your Skyrim exe the game will crash on startup? Perhaps try with the two additional dlls (d3dx9_26 & d3dx9_40) from this link.

I tried the injector version, and it works!
But the preset I want to use needs the 0.149 version, and I can't download it from the enb site. Anyone with the injector version of 0.149?

Trying to use the latest ENB 0.153 results in really weird flickering and static on all textures. I'm not sure what might be causing this, though I haven't tried an ENB in a long time. Realistic Lighting Overhaul has been really nice for me without the framerate cut that ENB imposes, I might just stick with it if I can't figure this out.

I used to be pretty hyped for Dragonborn but, somehow, I lost interest with time.
Eventually I decided to visit Solstheim and this is my story.

Awesome screenshots.

Man this game is going to be amazing on next-gen. Dynamic vegetation, long draw distance, physics for cloth and particles, emissive particles, maybe even fire that can burn the environment (imagine a dragon burning down a plain full of trees and grass).

You can't have more than 255 Plugins in Skyrim enabled?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

How can you run more than like, 20? Once I get above 10 my game just starts to crawl. Am I doing something wrong? I've got a 2500K, 8Gb RAM, and two SLI'd 560tis, wtf. I seriously get like, 10fps with an ENB on.

I want to uninstall NMM 0.44.1. I had been having troubles using 0.44.0 where I would delete or add a mod and it wouldn't show up until I restarting NMM. Oddly enough NMM asked me to update yesterday to 0.44.0, without mentioning the hotfix at all. I downloaded the hotfix, but I see it mentions uninstalling NMM and having the config files deleted so no further bugs stay in the install.

My question is, if I delete and reinstall NMM will all of my mods, installed ones included, still be there after I reinstall? When I go to uninstall NMM it asks me if I want to delete everything. I'm apprehension of clicking OK. I don't want to delete and have to start over from scratch, I have too many mods installed at this point and I was just about to start playing the game. I don't want to start over

I dunno. I think my system is more powerful than yours though.

ENB eats up all Your performance, especially DOF, download performance friendly version.
Most mods doesnt affect performance at all, only graphical ones.

I've done a lot of searching and I'm coming up empty. Are there any mods available that allow you to recruit any NPC (e.g. Fallout 3 Sharing and Caring Companions) that is also compatible with Ultimate Followers Overhaul?

This is a long shot, but does anyone here have any experience creating models in Blender?
When i finally managed to get my armor into my game (nifscope was a nightmare), the body was totally warped and was kind of floating in the air and stretched out, horizontally, in front of my char.
I think I screwed up the Vertex Group assignments in Blender but Im not sure how to do them properly. I kind of made an educated guess as to where each body section belonged and allocated it accordingly. The guide I used (http://tesalliance.org/forums/index...-part-4-modifying-an-existing-nif-in-blender/) talks about a "Face Select" feature in (Blender) Edit Mode but Google tells me that it was taken out since a previous version (currently using 2.49b).
Im using the UNP (with BBP?) body, FWIW.

Cheers

Had a kind of bad experience where I tried to do an uninstall and then install the new version, but it failed to read the old logs, so while the mods stay installed, the ESPs are intact, and the game works as usual, it no longer shows which mods are installed - every mod has a blank checkbox next to it :|

Could fix it by installing/uninstalling the mods I know are installed, but kind of tedious given the number I have and reluctance to screw up a working Skyrim playthrough.

I'm really new to moding and I have started out adding some mods with the nexus mod manager. These are the mods I have installed so far.

ycn.png

However i'm kinda clueless about this "ENB"-thing people talk about. I've seen the amazing screenshots some people show and I want in on the action!

Are any of the mods I already use considered an ENB?
Can I add an ENB on top of my current mods?
Which ENB is currently the most popular and easy to install?

Thanks!

Ps. I think I love moding more than playing the actual game. :s

ENB isn't a mod as such, it's a replacement/enhancement of the game's renderer. As a result, it's independent of any esp mods and can't conflict with them the way other mods can. There's only one ENB, the various releases are just configuration settings for it; each is pretty much as easy to install as another. Although i mentioned above that ENB can't conflict with mods, different settings can have unusual results when used with imagespace and lighting mods they weren't configured in mind for. From your mod list, ELFX and Project Reality may not be recommended for some profiles, and Dynavision will conflict with ENB Depth of Field if you choose to use it.

Thanks for the explanation, it helped a lot!

Will probably wait with any ENB for now as I think the game looks really awesome as it is already. It runs well on ultra setting with 2560x1440 resolution, most of the time, and all the mods I have installed.

I was actually having fun with one with Skyrim a few months ago thanks to that Requiem mod. I installed a new main SSD so I had to do a fresh install of Windows. I didn't use a lot of mods. Requiem, and a couple UI mods.

I'm having the hardest time finding this other mod or possibly ENB profile I was using... I wish I could remember what it was, maybe someone in here could help me. Basically I was able to use my own AA configuration and the mod/ENB gave the game that softer look a lot of these ENB setups do. I tried lots of ENB configs but they are all basically unplayable/for screenshots. Anyone know which I might have been using? Or recommend one that isn't so performance heavy?

I downloaded the Skyrim 2k hd mod(the big texture mod). It says it's activated but I don't see it in date files, if it's got the green tick in NMM then that should mean it's ok, right?

Awhile back I ran into some nasty hardware issues and was forced to give up the Skyrims for a little bit. It's been amazing seeing how much the mod community has put out in the several months I was on hiatus. Just bought all the DLC and I'm super excited being able to play again. THIS time I'll actually finish the MQ!~ :D

I'm in still somewhat in the character creation process, though. :P

It's pretty amazing how different ENBs can drastically alter the feel and look of Skyrim. I haven't settled on one out of the three I'm very in love with.

So I've only played Skyrim for about 45 minutes, but I want to give it another shot.

I'm doing some research now, but if you guys can recommend essential mods that will enhance my experience (mostly visual) I'd really appreciate it. I don't want to completely change the game to the point where I might as well be playing something else but I'd like the game to at least play and look as good as it can.

Here are my specs: i5 2500k, 8GB, HD5850, 1920x1200 or 1080p depending on monitor or TV.

EDIT: Checking out nexusmods and skyrimgems now.

With a 5850, get the Optimised HD DLC then add the light/medium versions of any texture pack you want over that.

Anyone recognize these model mods?

Also: can anyone recommend their favorite ENB to me? I'm new to the whole thing.

I couldn't tell you the specific body textures and other misc mods used in the first two images, but I recognize them, yeah. They're by ENB mod author Kyokushinoyama using the Project MATSO enb. I haven't tried it out yet; Looks a bit too colorful for my tastes. It's a lovely config, though. My favorite ENBs are probably The Wilds, The Goddess, Bleak/Unbleak and Unreal Cinema (which I am currently using). I've switched between the last three somewhat recently and you can see examples of The Goddess and Bleak/Unbleak in my previous post. I just started using Unreal Cinema tonight as it seems to be a great medium between the other two.

The main thing I look for in ENB configs I use is how it handles skin tones and such. They're a ton of really good ones out now that specialize in different areas so it all comes down to personal taste.

Thanks! Grabbed the official texture pack. Playing with EMBs to get a bit of a better look now.

Which EMB, if any, are you using? Looks beautiful.

Sorry, should have been a bit clearer. Install this over the official texture pack, it will save you 2-300MB VRAM with little to no visual impact: textures that don't need to be high res are downsized whilst some 512 ones are replaced with 1k alternatives. I have the same card as you but in crossfire, and textures are the main performance killer (besides ENBs).

Woahh that's great looking!!! Amazing modding community!

I'm about alright on all my mods, but can't incorporate an ENB cause the trees and mountains give a weird transparency bug somehow, anyone else in the same case? Using RCRN + Climates of Tamriel and Enhanced Lights and FX.

CoT might be the culprit there, Cripterion. It doesn't jive with most ENB configs. There're a small number enb profiles with CoT compatibility patches but in general the two don't mix well.

Ahh ok, I'll try different settings. Spent whole hours tweaking it yesterday and actually without ENB it looks fairly good, especially in interiors but the colors don't "pop" so much when roaming the lands.

I've tried the ENB that comes with COT and while it does look good, it's like looking at the world through sunglasses, and it somehow negates Lanterns of Tamriel, so can't see crap at times and it would totally go black screen when you approach words of power in caves :(

EDIT : found and ENB that is playing nice with COT while keeping a smooth 60FPS framerate!

That looks like Better Males to me, you can find that on the nexus, and the female one looks like UNP or something with some other athletic texture mod. You'll find those all on Skyrim Nexus.

Here's some decent ENBs that I have used so far:

http://bsnooch.com/forums/index.php?topic=835.0 This one is my favourite, although it's pretty old, and very colourful.

I don't use the mod but unless the textures are packed in a .bsa file, there will be no need to activate a seperate .esp file. Most mods will place their assets in the standard override folders set up by Bethesda (Data\Textures in this case) which are checked at start up as it's more flexible and less work.

My textures look very low-res though. I don't think the texture pack is kicking in despite the mod manager saying it's activated. I'll try installing it again and see what happens.

Quite a bunch of them, I'm well over 100 mods now but for the graphics I use Climate Of Tamriel 3.1 with Enhanced lights and FX that quite alter the vanilla look.

What do you mean when you say it broke the enb? Do it CTD or something? Are you making sure that Afterburner OSD isn't running, or D3DOverdrive isn't running?

I just hit my 30th mod for Skyrim. It's starting to look a lot better. However, am I going to have to get totally new mods when I buy Dragonborn in the near future? That sounds like a huge hassle.

God damn, care to share mods/sliders?

Tried the Project Matso Kyo variant, and my fps dropped to about 5fps. I had 60fps with all my other mods beforehand, so I think I'm doing something wrong. I know this is the most demanding matso enb variant, but the fps shouldn't drop that low should it?

It's certainly not impossible, depending on your rig. Just adding a couple of ENB effects can easily halve your framerate.

Have transparency bugs with trees, and sun acting up, it's shining through everything even with the right parameters in the ini set to 1.

EDIT : I had the game running pretty flawlessly with my ENB prior to updating, and didn't change a single thing, that's why I'm quite sure it's the new drivers that go too well with Skyrim ENB.

Ah, I also had that sun texture problem before. I also had a problem where shadows moved with my camera.

Sure. For that particular screenshot:

I'm also a huge fan of [URL="http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/29624/"]RaceMenu
, although it wasn't integral to my creation process outside of the warpaints.

Mature skin seem to be the best face texture, it has that flawed factor, like the Silent Hill characters, or a game that I forgot where the dev explained why they added pores and flaws to keep the characters from looking fake with perfect skin. It seem like you can just random a face with it and no matter what it will look good.
