This how look high profiled AAA game from the end of 2011 and runs barely in 60fps.
Ultra shadows and ultra textures.

WTF is this shit

So is 360 controller support solid?

Extremly solid...icons and everythiing. The only thing I found that needed the keyboard was when you enter your name at the beginning. When playing with a pad, the box came up but no way to activate an on-screen keyboard, so I had to use my wireless keyboard. Not too big of a deal, but you would of thought an on-screen keyboard or something.

Anyone figured out how to cap fps yet? Would rather just cap at 30 or 40 FPS than have so many jumps and dips in FPS when walking around.

Sad.

Could we get more impressions with CF ATI cards? I've not seen enough of them with impressions around here.

I expect new drivers to sort this out. Or at least patches. Who am I kidding, the community will fix it!

Phenom II X 4 @ 4GHZ
1200p everything at ultra with fxaa and 4xmsaa 16xaf

GPU usage around 63% avg
CPU usage around 59% avg

Framerate goes as low as the teens (opening) to as high as 60fps in caves.

I also have a i5 2500k at stock speed 3.3 ghz and also never OC. The game runs Ultra at average 40 fps for me, so that's good enough. I actually prefer a 30-40 fps than 60 fps. 60 fps is kinda weird to play, I think. Until 3 months ago I was a console only gamer, so I think that's why.

Not to be an ass...but really? I was a strict console gamer as well, then earlier this year I build a killer gaming rig and it is so hard for me to go back to console and the 30 and at times sub-30fps in games. I never heard of someone "NOT" preferring 60fps. 60fps is the holy grail of framerate.

Is that bugged?. My game looks nothing like that.

My game totally looks like that every once in a while. The worst was right in the beginning where this happened :

I am hoping that was a bug and not how the game looks for everyone there

You'll find a lot of those people in that Uncharted at 60 FPS thread as well as most any PC vs console tech thread. I'd say that it's cognitive dissonance for 99% of them.

Which is why I think it might have bugged up at that part, it just looked terrible. The texture work is by no means great in this game but it's acceptable for the most part but then something will just stick our right in your face looking really fucking ugly, like that shield you get in the beginning.
I edited my post above. I definitely have seen the plastic looking surfaces :/

@Corky (you have CF 6950's or GTX GPU's ?)

That is just pathetic. So much fail. Or someone tell me that they messed something up and are not this incompetent? The game runs, that's about it. Nothing more than that. I know the game is big but come one now, you can't even properly work the PC version that has the most passionate fans?

I hate to say it, but since when does a company that has a main goal of making money care about "passionate" user bases? The made the game on the device's' that will make the most money and port to the others. The only compnay that goes out of their way to make sure a product is up to snuff on the PC is CDPR from Witcher franchise.

Having a hard time deciding whether to go default High settings @ 60 FPS or max Ultra settings locked @ 30 FPS. I actually am not really seeing much difference between High and Ultra to justify losing all the frames, and the framerate is not stable enough to just leave on Ultra on my 5850/i5-750 with the controls being a bit wonky as they are.

Hate to repost but I didn't see an answer:

Is the in-game vsync triple buffered? Or does it make sense to disable it and use D3DOverrider?

I'm getting mad texture flickering on my 6950. For example, the castle walls in the beginning go from fully moss-covered to having no moss at all as I rotate the camera or walk towards them. Pretty distracting and fugly.

I've tried changing the graphics settings but nothing seems to work. I'm running with the latest drivers (11.9). Anyone know of a fix?

I had the same problem on my 5870, it eventually mostly goes away after the beginning. Every once in awhile I'll see some hay flicker in a corner. I'll try your AA fix though. It's super annoying at the beginning.

Yeah, I think it is supposed to be like that. I think it is due to the snow being dynamical put on textures. While I have not seen snowfall yet, when I cast fire magic on those snowy boards for example, the snow melts. (Kind of cool really)

Oh cool, I'll have to try that.

What was all that hubbub about d3doverrider clashing with the game?

Vsync/triple buffering performance was slightly worse with D3DO compared to using the in-game vsync that is on by default. Might as well not use it with Skyrim.

Gotcha, so all I gotta do is make sure that iPresentInterval=1, in order for the ingame v-sync/triplebuffering to be enabled correct?

[moved over from my goof of putting this in the wrong thread]

So I inevitably got sucked into buying this this morning and after going through a bit of performance grief with Witcher 2 I'm wondering if I should upgrade my now 2.5 year old rig. I'm never great at making this kinda call so would love some advice:

I've got:

- AMD x4 940 3.0Ghz (quadcore)
- Radeon HD 4870 w/ 1GB
- 4GB ram
- Win 7 x64

I don't think I'd change CPUs, but upgrading my video card or adding some more ram wouldn't upset me too much.

Need some help...

When I went to Alvor's house his wife attacked me and I was forced to kill them. Now it says the quest has failed.... what the fuck do I do?

You can delete iPresentInterval entirely, the game will use it by default unless you force it off by adding the line.

I see, thanks.

Does anyone know what the console equivalent graphics settings are? I'd like to do everything I can to improve the framerate on my machine, but I won't go under what it would look like on a console.

I believe the default Low setting is what is equivalent.

I've noticed big FPS drops so far, which is kind of disappointing.

I have:

AMD Quad-core stock @ 2.5Ghz
4GB RAM (DDR2)
ATI 5850

When I'm out wandering, the FPS is great, usually in the 40's up to 60FPS. As soon as I go near a town though, I dip down into the low 20's.

Everything I have is for the recommended specs, and it runs the "default" to High settings. Anyone else on ATI having this issue?

For Fullscreen Windows 7:

My game bugs when you Alt+tab or press windows key...

to get back into it after the bug... highlight the game window and press CTRL+ALT+DEL and say start task manager.

Poof, Back in game.

My local redbox just got the xbox version for rent, it is only $2.00 so I figured I will check it out to see how it compares to the PC version.

Cool, looking forward to your impressions. Might pick this up for my brother for X-Mas.

NP. Will pick it up in a few hours and report back. Usually for big titles I like to compare them when I can rent the 360 version for $2.00.

Getting horrible performance up in this bitch, but I guess my GFX card is showing its age. The framerate was tanking inside the first tutorial dungeon, but when I got out it seemed to stabilize before I had to quit playing.

Anyone else experiencing mediocre performance with a GTX460?

As with any other game, just click "Switch to" on the applications tab. It takes you there. If there's still an issue and you just see the top of a window, click on it and it should bring back up whatever game you're playing. Try alt-enter too.

Depends what you consider mediocre.

Having everything set on Ultra, I can maintain a pretty solid 30 with my 460 (Paired with an i5 2500k & 4gb Ram). There are times where I'll get 60 too if I turn off my framerate cap, but I'd rather have the experience consistent.

There are some areas that will fall into the teens, specifically those with heavy lighting effects, but nothing unplayable.

Im having an issue where my spell effects arent displaying properly. I cant see my fire spell or the clairvoyance spell. Anyone know why?

This is more Steam/ISP/Location related than performance related. But, holy shit this game is taking a while to download. I've been sitting here for over a half hour (at 1.2MB/s) and the download isn't even halfway done. I'm fairly sure New Vegas was finished in like 15 minutes. WTF is this shit!!

I've got an i7 2600k 3.4 ghz with a gtx 570 and 8 gigs of ram. I've got almost everything on high/ultra with view distances maxed on everything. The game never skips a beat. It runs like a dream. Though moving left and right is slower than looking up and down which is strange.

I have intel I7 2630, quad core(2Ghz) with an nvidia GTX 460 with 8 gigs of ram and have had a a perfectly smooth experience on with this game on high, haven't tried ultra, but high is very good

I have an i5 2400, SSD hard-drive and an HD 5670 graphics card. I'm surprised how smooth and flawlessly it runs.

Edit: the slow mouse movement is still awful though...although this seems more like a game design choise and after 5+ hours of playing I've kinda gotten used to it.

Edit2: fixed that too, yay

AMD Phenom II Thuban 6 core 1055t @ 3.5Ghz
Nvidia 460 GTX @ 900Mhz
8 GB DDR3

Playing on high (with a few values pushed toward ultra) with a little AA. Games runs smooth when I'm out in the woods alone. The moment I get into a town I probably get some sub 30 drops.

My 580 GTX should be in the mail today, so I'll update things when I get my GOD CARD.
