Other than RAM you're a touch better than I am and yet I'm just trying to get stuff to stay out of the 30's. I'm averaging mid 30's to 60 frames everywhere I go with High Settings and a little tweaking to the shadows. You should be getting much better than that.

Well you got a point. I'd never stopped at the top of the steps of Dragonsreach to test. But I'm still getting 24-25 fps on High with a few ini tweaks. Once I get down the steps into the city, I'm bouncing between 33-43 fps. Did you set your fShadowDistance? I've got mine at 1500.The M.O.B said:Go to this same area, and tell me your framerate. This is what my game looks like on Low everything, at an amazing 13fps!

I have to manually set it in console every time. Annoying.

Yes but no one confirmed it. I've been too busy to test this today3chopl0x said:Pretty sure you can add a launch option on steam '-fov xx'

Adaptive AA, try setting it to just multisampling AA.Zefah said:I tried the RadeonPro thing last night with my 5870, and while I saw FPS gains, I noticed the street textures in Whiterun started acting really funny. I'll try a bit more tweaking tonight.
I edited in to start with a base ini with no tweaks. Work from there as I can verify that even of there's no gains, the fps jitters went away for me and I was getting shockingly bad ones. Like from 60 to 12 in the same scene.Mammoth Jones said:RadeonPro seems to have netted me a 10FPS gain. I generally do get 60fps in dungeons. But in large towns it drops to 30. Now I'm rocking 40 in towns.
I really hope Bethesda updates this with some patch lovin'.

Osiris said:It's not optimization that's the problem causing some to have such low fps, not when people with set-ups like mine & my sons can get playable framerates far in excess of some of the worst case scenarios posted here.
For reference:
My PC:
i5-750 @ 3.0Ghz, 4GB Ram, HD4870 512MB Gfx, Win 7 64bit. (11.9 Catalyst drivers)
Running @ 1920x1080, 2xAA, 4xAF, All settings High except Shadows set to Medium
Inside FPS: 50-55 fps
Outside FPS: 57-60 fps
Sons PC:
Q6600 @ 3.0Ghz, 4GB Ram, HD4650 512MB Gfx, Win Vista 64bit. (11.9 Catalyst drivers)
Running @ 1600x1050, No AA, 4xAF, All settings Medium
Inside FPS: 42-45 fps
Outside FPS: 48-52 fps
So either a specific combination of h/w & s/w is causing an issue, or there's a configuration specific bug, but it can work and work at a playable framerate on lesser hardware which wouldn't be possible if it was just poor optimization.
How many ini settings have you altered? And did you switch adaptive to multisampling?Enemy Of Fate said:I tried the RadeonPro settings and it DESTROYED my framerate.Brought it down from 45+ to between 25-32.....any thoughts on what could be causing this? For some reason fraps is showing the FPS in two corners now instead of one, so I'm wondering if its somehow split the image...somehow...
Edit: 6950 by the way,
Interesting, I do have some INI tweaks alright. I'll try that out tomorrow, thanks for the advice!LiquidMetal14 said:How many ini settings have you altered? And did you switch adaptive to multisampling?
I would suggest sticking with a base ini to start.

Probably my CPU? But then I'd have to get a new motherboard as well if I want to use an Intel CPU.
CTD's are still happening. I;ve tried all the fixes BUT they are very infrequent.EasyTGT said:Have their been any fixes for the random quit to desktop that me and a couple other people I know keep experiencing? It hasn't been updated in the OP, so I'm guessing no.
Let me know. The only things I've tweaked are shadows, transparency enabled, and treesreceive shadows.Enemy Of Fate said:Interesting, I do have some INI tweaks alright. I'll try that out tomorrow, thanks for the advice!

Code:[Papyrus] iMinMemoryPageSize=100000 iMaxMemoryPageSize=5000000 iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=1800000000
In SkyrimPrefs.ini, just put it at the bottom of the ini so you know you've added to it since this settings IS NOT in the original ini generated by the game.Jibbed said:Should this definitely increase fps? I've tried it with no effect whatsoever.. I'm pretty sure I'm putting it in the right place. In the Skyrim.ini under 'Papyrus', yes? There are other things there... does it matter if these pagefile settings are above or below them?

iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=3000000000
For kicks, I also ticked down shadow distance from 7000 to 5000 and am at near 60fps detail at this one specific spot that brought me down to the 30's with the same settings before adding the memory tweak here. I'm also using my RadeonPro settings from the OP too.
Simply amazing results I'm getting here. I'm I bumped down shadowdistance to 4000 and left the res the same, they are smoother AND I retain the same FPS. This memory tweak definitely helped me even more. A few pics coming in 10 ish,Jibbed said:Oh right, cheers!

Do you have a nvidia card? If yes, are you enhancing antialiasing with CSAA? If yes, the game doesn't like CSAA. If that doesn't answer your question, blame Bethesda.muffs92 said:No seriously, does anyone else get the infinite loop load screen?

Bleh. So you're saying a E7200 Core2 Duo @ 2.53GHz is going to have a rough time hitting 30FPS even with a GTX260?CabbageRed said:This article should give you a reasonably good idea of how CPU-intensive Skyrim is.
How much RAM do you have? The original is 1.8GB, not 3. I have 8GB RAM so I upped mine.moop1167 said:Is this just for ATI users? I am on dual GTX 580's and I still get slowdowns outside Riverwood.
Jibbed said:I'm getting atleast 10+fps in the wide-open areas, but no obvious gains in towns etc. Ah well, that'll do I guess!
Any more tips for noticeable performance gains? I'm running everything at max (apart from low shadows), no AA, 1920x1080 on an external monitor for my Toshiba laptop, i3-350m @ 2.27GHz, 5650HD, 4GB RAM.
The RadeonPro settings don't seem to have any effect for me.. guessing that's because I'm not using any AA.
Getting 25-45fps at the moment. EDIT: My fshadowdistance in the SkyrimPrefs.ini is currently at 2000.

try leaving it at the 18 and not the 30 on the last line there.moop1167 said:6gb.

I think I've settled at 4000 shadowdistance and 4096 res. It eliminates the blockiness to the point of my satisfaction while not killing my fps below 60.
