It's nice to see that the UI modders are already starting to tinker...

From DarN (Darnified):
Will that UI only work with Keyboard and Mouse or also with 360 pad (the way the game was meant to be played) ?

That's just a shot from the dev himself, so I'm not sure it is even out. When released, it will most likely work for both control methods.

The UI was built with ActionScript/Flash, uses GFX/SWF/AS files, so it seems like people will really be able to tweak it to hell and back which is comforting. The head UI guy has been answering some questions and will probably be more vocal after they release the creation kit.

Is the game really that much better with a pad? Guess I should try it out later.

Very interesting. If we can see something like the later Oblivion UI mods that would be fantastic.

You only get 2 hotkeys. 2 hotkeys! Completely unplayable.

Wow, only two? With a game like this, I'm a stickler about the accuracy of the crosshair and things like that, I think I'll deal with KB/M. Feels less restrictive.

I wish I knew ActionScript/Flash, I'd be messing with the UI as we speak. It's going to be exciting to see it all unfold.

Wow, lots of settings there. I'd like to see screenshots of the game with the "DNA Extreme" settings. Some of those values seem way too high

Same here, I'm going to try the config later with all those settings.

Thanks for the link, Sarcasm!

I had it in the OP yesterday but more people need to read about it. If you look back to posts from me last night, I confirmed this to help my performance!

Do the memory settings go in SkyrimPrefs.ini or Skyrim.ini? Seeing a bit of confusion on that, and if it's anything like New Vegas some ini settings won't take depending on what ini file you put them in.

If you increase your carry weight via console command, can you reduce it ever?

E - I'm dumb, it's just -#. I typed modave instead of modav. Dumb.

X-post from main thread:

So you think people who mod out the spiders because they're "skeered" are pathetic?

How about people who mod out the hanging rabbits because they make the gamer sad?

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=274

I have pet rabbits and was bothered by seeing rabbits hanging from hooks all over Skyrim. I realize people eat rabbits, no problem with that here. I just find it distracting and distasteful to see a half dozen rabbits or more hanging from most of the ceilings in the game.

So are you guys using the game's FXAA mode? I feel like it makes the game blurry, but it looks kind of good. If I take it off, everything is sharper, though. I can't seem to figure out which is 'better'.

I left it unticked. I basically have it on high, with the sliders 1 notch below maximum and object detail on ultra. Oh, and 8x AA

I am, coupled with the anti aliasing and sharpen mode. Looks wonderful.

Add under display in skyrim.ini:

fSunShadowUpdateTime=0
fSunUpdateThreshold=0

Note: your shadows will now move continuously instead of in increments

Edit:
fSunShadowUpdateTime=1.000
fSunUpdateThreshold=0.500

If you still want your shadows moving in increments. Nvm these are the default settings.

Actually that is the one thing that has been annoying me. :D

I'm sure this may have been answered previously, but it's too much trouble for me to find:

I made the .exe large address aware, but the game won't launch from steam. Is it possible to fix that?

This made it constant, but it looked worse to be honest. Constant small jitters instead of a bigger one every 7 seconds.

It's strange, turning FXAA on and off resets the shadow settings. My shadow distance was 2500 and after turning FXAA on its 8000.

Gonna try that shadow timer fix.

Overall I am pretty happy with the way the games looks and my tweaks. I am getting good framerates but they have a huge range usually between 50-80, but with spikes up to 100+. I am also getting some screen tearing. Any solutions/suggestions?

Use d3doverrider to fix the screen tearing. It will lock the game down to 60 as well.

Probably late to the party on this, but

Go to C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\My Games\Skyrim
Open SkyrimPrefs.ini, and search for [General] section
Add fdefaultfov=XX at the end of the section. (where XX is the FOV value you want to change to). For example add fdefaultfov=90
Open Skyrim.ini, and search for [Display] section
Add fDefaultWorldFOV=XX (where XX is the FOV value you put in fdefaultfov)
Add fDefault1stPersonFOV=xx.0000 (where XX is the FOV value you put in fdefaultfov)

lets me save my FOV now. No amount of opening menus will revert it back to its default FOV. Very happy with this.

Doesn't anybody's framerate die in the ass as soon as they look over Whiterun? Mine plummets from 60+ to 30 :(

Yep, it's the main problem I have. Same with any decent sized town really. I've given up trying to fix it, I'm just accepting that it's poorly optimised now.

I switched for ma2 to fxaa and did not really see a difference. No jaggies with either on my TV in 1080p.

I prefer FXAA over this game's AA method. Plus you get an increased saturation with just using FXAA, and can tweak custom FXAA shaders to make the game look really great

Are you guys sure the FOV is 65 by default? I just tested it out and when putting in FOV 75 and then putting in FOV into the console (Which restores your FOV to the games default) they were the same. It might potentially be variable as well.

It's definitely higher than 65. Start a new game and type fov 65 and it will zoom in. I think it's around 70 or 75 by default.

What are your specs? I have the same problem and I suspect it's CPU related.

i3-2100
6950, 2GB unlocked
4GB DDR3

50-60 everywhere but the town squares, or looking at them from a distance.

He said to place it in skyrim.ini though. Does it make a difference?
I placed mine in SKyrimPrefs.ini and it helped but he's the author so he's gotta be right. I just put SkyrimPrefs in the OP because I put i there and I noticed improvement.

I set it to 75 and it most certainly zoomed out a little. 1920x1080.

Posted this in the other thread. Forgot about this one.
So if I have these specs, should I even bother getting the PC version? All these mods are making me salivate. I know the minimum specs are a little below this, but so was Deus Ex and that ran pretty bad in the hubs at points.

Core 2 duo 6600 2.40 ghz
3 gb RAM
HD 4870

delete the .exe and then have steam verify integrity of game cache. For future reference, always back things like that up.

For anyone who might be scared off by this, my game was crashing quite often before I made it large address aware but after doing it it hasn't crashes once, other than when I was doing some alt tabbing.

It should be pretty playable. I have a similar setup:
Core 2 Duo e4300 @ 2.4ghz
4gb RAM
8800GTS 640mb X2 SLI

Frankly the game is entirely CPU bottlenecked, if you do a couple tweaks you should be able to get nice looking settings averaging 40-60fps. In a few of the really large towns that will drop to 20-35fps but luckily not a lot of "action" happens in the town so it shouldn't affect your ability to play. It's just because there are so many AI entities in the large towns.

If you could overclock your CPU up to 3.0-3.2 you could significantly improve those numbers as well.
