Welcome to the world of....Dangerous Curves!

Leading up a team to investigate the murder of a NASCAR driver is right up her alley. The only problem is NASCAR star Blain Sanders, the man who requested her. Blain is well-heeled, well connected and drop-dead gorgeous-and he knew Lea when she was a drag-racing tomboy with grease under her nails.

But Lea has grown up since then, in all the right places. And while catching the killer is her main objective, she's not above making the man who ignored her as a teenager squirm a little.

Two people on a surefire collison course. But Lea and Blain are about to discover that the sweetest victory does not always come from winning. . .

Wow, just wow. I need to read that. It might top the horrible vampire romance novel I found at goodwill a couple months ago.

I tracked down some quotes from that vampire novel (Forever and the Night).

Aidan still smiled as he mounted the slippery steps at the back of the house and entered the mudroom. He stomped the snow from his booted feet just as a mortal man might have done.

"Are you all right?" the woman asked, pulling him sharply back from his musings. "You look a little pale."
Aidan might have laughed, so ludicrously accurate was her remark.

It's goddamn hilarious how bad it is. It entertained me and my friends for a good 3 hours.

Outside the Hometown Buffet it poured cats and hounds. His glossy racercar boots shone from the summer storm. He smelled of motor oil, but she didn't mind. He was use to going fast, but she didn't mind. He was just one of the boys and she was a real woman. Their eyes met like it was the Destiny 300, and love hit them like she was Dale and he was a brick wall.

This once, my friend and I had this great idea to make money. We'd make a video game, NASCARPG. Where you take control of a spunky young hillbilly who wants on the NASCAR circuit. We had all these awesome ideas. And then EA got exclusve rights to the license. Fuckoff, EA, we wanted the money!

And now, after seeing this, I know it would've sold, too. :(

How come when people try to convince other that Nascar is fun they always post pictures of crashes.

I mean, I watch F1 but not for crashes (well the first curve is always pretty fun :D )

I've gained a lot more respect for NASCAR in recent years. The racing is far more difficult then it looks...the cars level of downforce is minute compared to other forms of racing, and it doesn't take much for one of those cars to lose control. The fact that they're going over 200mph most of the time while in close proximity to each other for some three plus hours is also pretty incredible, particularly with the looseness of the cars.

Also, NASCAR is probably one of the best events to watch live. Depending on where you sit, you can see the entire race going on. That can't be said for non-oval tracks, unless you're sitting at a premium corner with giant monitors. It's gotta be a rush seeing 40 cars buzzing by you at 200mph's with those 700+ horsepower rumbling engines, seeing them disappear into the distance, and come right back again.

Now having said all that, I much prefer the technical aspects of rally racing and road racing to oval stuff. For me, NASCAR isn't a good TV event compared to the likes of WRC, American Le Mans, DTM, V8 Supercars or F1. But that doesn't mean NASCAR is without merit either. I had a blast watching the final twenty laps of Daytona.

I also think what this sport has done better then anyone this side of the NBA is market the drivers. NASCAR fans are the most loyal in North America, and they all have favourite drivers that they passionately follow. And all the star drivers have different personalities that help create a real sense of rivalry between the different camps.

I never really understood NASCAR and just always passed it off as being yet another "guy thing"... until now. I guess housewives need to be added to the roster. :lol

NASCAR < Polo.

pretty much dead on. it's not a very technical motorsport, but it's not like oval racing takes no skill either. the real attraction is the professional wrestling-esque middle american marketing (which gives us the trashy romance novel as well, sadly). the fact that it's not very technical means it doesn't take much thought either. it's an easy sport to appreciate with little to no education or knowledge of any kind (go fast, turn left).

that said, the manipulative marketing is what makes it so insipid

:lol Just stating the facts man. NASCAR's the second biggest TV and spectator sport in the US, with more room to grow. They haven't even tapped into the urban market yet. They've made some pretty good inroads into corporate/white collar America the last few years, as evidenced by the Nextel deal, but there's still room for growth there as well. NASCAR could be neck and neck with the NFL within a decade, particularly if they were able to secure a young black driving prodigy in the same vein as a Tiger Woods or Lebron James.

I think the days of it being a redneck sport are far behind them...but they're gonna need to work a lot harder to get rid of the perception, which is obviously still there. Getting one or two drivers that are like, not white, would be a decent start.
