I bought Ultra Street Fighter IV during a time when there weren't any beginner players left, only intermediate, advanced, and high level. I took loss after loss after loss for months and month. And now I'm here.

No excuses, just playing the game, and you can do it too.

All I can say is:

I know exactly how this feels. I've only been playing sf about 6 months off and on and broke past 1k myself a couple weeks back.

Like I'm just not going to talk match-ups, but I'm just going to say some general improvements. Learn your punishes with Ken even cr.hp into hp shoryuken is a good enough punish right now. Your general pressure needs some work since it didn't really lead to much even if you got the knockdown with the grab. I tell this to everyone, but anti to make them play a ground game and if they don't they die. Ken's got a lot of dumb stuff so experiment with air ex tatsu stuff or kara grab. Also just keep a strong ground game.

i have some basic critiques but im sure a real xrd player has more relevant stuff. i played a lotta ac and +r. have you gone into the tutorial to learn about mechanics? if you havent i'd suggest doing that and doing basic combo trials so that you can know what to do if for instance your greed sever hits. gg has a lot of movement options but very slow walkspeeds so its really uncommon for someone to treat it like sf and use the walk as their primary form of movement. you can move quickly and safely on the ground by dashing and then cancelling that dash with faultless defense...so like i seen you run at the dude from fullscreen and in that situation of course hes gonna hit a button and stop you he has forever to react. in that instance you can cancel the dash with FD in time to block. i also didnt notice you airdashing very much which is an important part of the genre.

gg is also a game with very strong oki (its one of its defining features imo) so i think you oughtta think about what you can do to keep the pressure on/mixup on the opponents wakeup. in ky's case its never a bad idea to throw out an H stun edge and while the opp is blocking that mix them up high/low or delayed throw. i think a lot of gg's gameplay is kinda defined by pressure into combo into knockdown into mixup so its def a super important thing to think about.

cool. the tutorial has some pretty hard stuff actually but its very practical and teaches you a lot about common stuff you'll see. you using pad or stick?

Ggs Cindi! Few things; Try to use your ultras when you know they'll connect. Reacting to fireballs with U1 online especially with a bit of lag can be difficult, but throwing it out there pre-emptively can lose you a round really quickly. You can use Chun's U2 as an AA if done early enough. You got a lot of milage off of cr.MK xx ex Legs -> U2 which is good, try not to just do it neutral and more as a punish/combo.

You have a habit of throwing a fireball then doing a hozanshu afterwards in the same position a lot, that's why I'd do a lot of focus' mid screen to try punish them. When you countered with air target combo to blow up the focus, there usually wouldn't be a combo afterwards. What's your go to combo after air TC? You had a few opportunities but didn't get too much damage to scare me from doing it again. Also, if your air TC Is done too low, a FA might absorb only one attack then you can't press a button when you touch the ground. If done high enough, you'll get both attacks then can continue the combo when you land.

Try to use her st.MP more, I got hit by that a lot, very solid poke. Also, do you crouch tech? Going for throws never seemed like a bad idea at certain times. Another thing, don't be too scared to backdash on wakeup with Chun. Until the opponent has proven it's a bad idea honestly go for it. Her backdash is really good. You can also absorb an attack and backdash with focus backdash. There's also a 4 button tech that can only be done if you have less than 2 bars but that's another story.

What to work on:

Get more familiar with her AA's. Jumping against your Chun didn't really seem all too risky. Remember if you have charge you can AA with ex.SBK.

Take more advantage of the games defensive mechanics. Backdash/Focus backdash on wakeup is a viable tool with Chun. Crouch tech to not get grabbed and if the cr.LK hits them you can convert into cr.LK x3 -> ex. Legs

Try not to fall into a pattern.

Try to get better at read/reacting to fireballs instead of predicting that one is coming. When players see Chun has U1 stocked most of the time their not going to be tossing many FB's anyway.

Use Chun's buttons more. st.MP/st.HP/cr.HK are all good normals to use. Don't feel bad by abusing them if their working.

It might be too late to get used to fighting the whole cast at this point of the game, but there's going to be a lot of matchups that you're unfamiliar with that can be a stomp if you don't really know what to do. Doing those characters trials might help a bit, or help you understand their normals/specials. Also, don't forget to go into training mode and practice against anything you're having trouble against. Just put the computer on record and have them do it over and over until you learn a resolve for that attack.

Okays. The advice is helpful. I've been slacking on my training regimen and forgot to practice AAing with Chun. You're right that I fall into a pattern. I guess I get scared my normals won't work. I also need help with cross ups. Sometimes I'd block and still get hit.

Annnnnd I successfully did this footsie handbook whiff:

Element 04: When your opponent is looking to punish your standard pokes, try whiffing a crouching light kick a few pixels outside their sweep range. If they mistake it for a slower attack, they’ll leave themselves open when their counterattack misses. Be ready to punish the whiff or simply walk up and throw them during their recovery period. This tactic works best during mirror matches and against opponents who can hit your medium pokes on reaction.

Chun doesn't do all too well against dive kick characters in general. My advice would be to not quick get up after a heavy spiral arrow and try to focus backdash a dive kick on wakeup.

Backdash to beat Gief's grab on wakeup, that was the perfect time to use it lol

I really have only played the Poison matchup as Elena so I don't really know what to do with other characters. And a lot of combos drop on her or just don't work against her hurt box.

With Ryu, I'm not sure why, but you tried to U1 and tatsu through Guile's Sonic Booms. That.. will never work against Guile, unless you're totally point blank. The recovery on Guile's SB's are too fast to try be countered like that.

Rose/Ryu was really sloppy on my end, I tried a lot of tech that didn't really work against a person that didn't crouch tech that much lol

Only watched the first match but... don't do random greed sever (at least don't do it anywhere near as often as you're doing it now)! It's unsafe and any competent player will block it easily on reaction and punish you. Stun dipper is a better random unsafe special to do since it low profiles Faust's f.S and rerere, but the dude you were playing against didn't really do f.S much (god knows why). The dude also never threw any items except when he did item super which is crazy because that's the entire point of playing Faust. You should just hang back and chuck projectiles since the guy wasn't actually doing anything. Faust can duck stun edge, but at least make the player prove they know how to do that and take advantage of that. Also, learn to combo into a knockdown and then apply pressure on wake-up. Whenever you can combo into a knockdown, do so, and at least just do Ky's 6HS as they wake-up- you get a combo if they get hit (if they're mashing), and you get frame advantage if they block.

You got caught by otoshi quite a bit, I'm sure you know the throw can be avoided by crouching, and the elbow drop can also be blocked by crouch blocking, with the difference being blocked standing leaves guy at a slight frame disadvantage, while blocked crouching leaves him at a slight frame advantage. Not sure if one is preferred over the other in dhalsims case, that's more my unfamiliarity with dhalsim.

Personally I feel you didn't threaten with ultra 2 enough, I know you said your still hesistant about using it, but between the elbow drop and the jumping guy does in this match, its something you should keep an eye out for more often. There was a few times where you could have gotten him with it fairly easily.

I was indeed aware that the Otoshi grab could be avoided by crouching, but I suffered from "deer in front of headlights" syndrome whenever I did get caught by it in the middle of pressure unfortunately. Its range is also oddly deceptive to me because I'd stubbornly attempt to air-to-air it and Guy'd grab a hold of me from virtually half-screen (mild exaggeration). Bad habit, evidently. Wasn't aware about the slight frame advantage when blocking the elbow as you're standing up though; I'll have to see if I can get something off of that, should I not be prepared to slide under it or anti-air said move.

Not threatening enough with Ultra 2 was also a shortcoming like you pointed out. I landed it (and whiffed it) a couple of times in other matches, but I didn't really spend the meter as regularly as I could have as either a punish or as an anti-air. Another instance of "deer in front of headlights" for me if someone's jumping arcs fluctuate a lot.

You seem to like to teleport out of the corner when you're trapped, but you ended up eating a fair bit of damage for it. Do you feel that it's a better trade off for you than being stuck in the corner with Guy?

When I did get punished severely for it, I'd say those were bad reads on my behalf. Ended up being too gungho trying to anticipate him moving in closer via either a jump or his command run and with how I'd usually end up in the corner afterwards anyways, I'm sceptical it's actually worth the trade-off even as someone like Dhalsim. I guess it might be a situational gamble when mix-ups are an issue?

There's a big (positive) difference here how you played against Zangief compared to that one match vs Hugo a while back. Noticeably improved usage of the range on your normals to keep a big and slow character like him at bay. Only constructive feedback I can give is being a little more wary about throwing fireballs when Zangief has EX meter from around the mid-range due to the Green Hand (combined with Red Focus potentially), as well as using your standing + crouching fierce kick more often (at max range) to disrupt the flow for the likes of him and Hugo. Some of Vangief's past matches vs Ricki Ortiz highlight how annoying those can be, if you need some visual reference.

Im a noob adon player, but heres my advice...

Fierce jaguar tooth is pretty easily countered by pokes. Whenever you see him jump to the corner like that I would recommend just throwing out your strongest poke to counter/ throwing a fireball, though this might make you vulnerable to ex jag kick if he did the medium version. I would say chun's lightning kicks are your most reliable option if you can get them out in time.
Throwing out fireballs at close range or far range isn't a terrible idea, just avoid doing it at medium range because he can either a) medium jaguar kick b) ex jaguar kick or c) IAJK which will give him a full combo and finally d) use his ultra. At long range his only real instantly-get-in option it fierce jag tooth which like I said you can punish, and at close is a jump in.
And yeah just try to always block high for jag kicks.

Jaguar kicks are mostly safe on block, I think they might be -3 to -4 at the worst so punishing with Chun can be difficult. Again, test it in training to see what you can find as an answer.

Is Chun Li backdash Rose Tier? If you dont like the jaguar pressure you can try to backdash.
