The Final Bosman Show

I missed a crap top of Kyle's shows over xmas, but caught up the other day. Good to see there's been no loss of quality. Apart from "trolling trolls" which was just awful and the only episode i've ever stopped watching before the end

Newest episode was pretty great

Remember though that it was the 360 in this exact position the last time around. Cheaper, with better multiplatform performance, and in Sony's shadow when it came to high profile exclusives.

How was the 360 "in Sony's shadow"?

The PS3 had to launch against Gears of War, followed up by Halo 3 9-10 months later. Sony's launch lineup was dull at best, and none of their exclusives ever put up the numbers of MS's heavy hitters.

I was talking more about the exclusives that were to come, not the launch titles. And those exclusives being high profile, not necessarily sales figures. The 360 at launch didn't have a long string of exclusives to look forward to. Not compared to Sony.

Great episode

Anton Enhance!

Although to be honest the bonus bit would've been funny had he not cracked up during it. Still wouldn't be that funny though 0_0

I miss past kyle

Back to Bosman Best. Good episode, and damn did he call that Titanfall bundle/price cut both ways.

Love how he gets lost in his improv rambles sometimes, but has the sense to cut them off in the main episode if they start getting too off-the-rails. But we still get to see it in the bonus bit.

Very good episode! And good job on getting one prediction right, Kyle!

Also, does anyone know the song that was playing around 9:30?

Great episode, and a spot on analogy, there are definitely too much people who keep waiting for the next month of numbers an hour after the new numbers are released, and people expecting the bubble to burst and interest to drop off a cliff, but I just think they made a compelling product that a lot of people are going to keep buying.

Now while I agree that the PS4 is doing great, and the Xbox One as well (but not as much as PS4), I can't share the feeling. Maybe it's because I'm not following news about them and only glance at the titles of topics in the first page here at GAF, but right now and in the near future, there's absolutely nothing interesting on them. It also comes to taste in games, but I wonder how many people share this feeling. It's a weird contrast, they are selling great, people keep talking about them, but I can't see anything interesting that would've be driving this hype, this success. And I wonder for how long this will keep up. If it indeed does drop, then I can be certain that a lot of people share this feeling, but if it doesn't, I wonder why I'm feeling this...

What PS2 game caused it to do so well for comparison?

Kyle took the words right out of my mouth with his point about the ridiculous 20+ page GAF threads that spawn every time a new PS4/Xbone game is released at varying resolutions and frame-rates. I too hope those will one day disappear.

They won't.

Considering frame rate issues, affect gameplay...

They wont go away, and they probably shouldn't.Resolution while nice isn't important to me unless i am playing on a very large tv or a PC my opinion is no opinion.

Given that lower resolutions and frame rates for multipats on Xbox One look to be par for the course this gen, I doubt it will still be a shock in 5 years when a game is reported to perform worse on Xbox. It will just come to be expected.

How was the 360 "in Sony's shadow"?

If I remember correctly, this time in the last generation,
Final Fantasy & DmC
which both meant a lot back then,
and GTA were more associated with Sony.
Same goes for Metal Gear Solid,
and recent PS2 franchises like God Of War & Kingdom Hearts.

If you wanted to be on the safe side, you had to stay with Sony,
and it took a few years for some franchises to make the jump.
(GTA4 was probably already expected to be a timed Sony exclusive based on past GTA games - who would have expected the GTA episodes being timed MS exclusives back then)

The Josh Gordon analogy worked so well. I would have even added that how if Josh Gordon had one more off the field incident he would be suspended for the season similar to how Microsoft could have a new CEO come in and sell off the Xbox. Also loved the TLC throwback style song for the power point slide update.

(GTA4 was probably already expected to be a timed Sony exclusive based on past GTA games - who would have expected the GTA episodes being timed MS exclusives back then)

GTA4 for 360 was announced before the PS3 even launched (E3 2006), and along with it they announced "exclusive episodic content" for GTA4.

You are right though, in the sense that it was at one time inconceivable that Final Fantasy would jump to Xbox, given how the platform was always a flop in Japan. DMC4 for Xbox seemed like an obvious no-brainer, considering how Capcom loves to whore out their franchises and how much early support they gave the Xbox (Dino Crisis 3, Steel Batallion) and the 360 (Dead Rising, Lost Planet).

I suppose the "weirdness" of the current situation occurs because we have so rarely seen two giant competitors launch at almost exactly the same time. Usually one company launches a year after the other, and the newcomer has to play catch-up against an entrenched competitor who is already running at full steam and producing pretty astounding exclusives. So it's usually an awesome an established competitor's Year 2 lineup versus a newcomer's mediocre launch lineup.

This time around it's mediocre launch games versus mediocre launch games. So I suppose it only makes sense that price and multiplatform performance end up being the determining factors.

Resistance, Motorstorm, and Genji did not really set the world on fire. Particularly not if you were to compare them to Halo, Gears, and Forza. It took years for anything to put up really big sales numbers (MGS4, Uncharted 2) but by that point MS had already set the pace for the generation.

As DanielCW did, I suppose you could argue that Microsoft were "in Sony's shadow" in the sense that many people assumed Sony's incredible streak of exclusives would continue.

Motorstorm actually sold really well. It's figures was comparable to Forza.

As much As MS loves to pretend like Forza is hot,it's a 2+ million seller at best.

If you dont count GT5P which sold another 5 million.

Well, if you want to count that you would have to count the other halos on 360 too which pretty much would end this competition ;)

however, it always baffles me that GT is sonys strongest exclusive by far. I mean it's a racing game and we got Uncharted 2 and fucking Last of us and they don't even get close to half the sales of GT? While GT is of course one of the best racing franchises, if not the best, I just for the life of me can't get excited for it... Opinions I know ;)

It probably isn't their strongest anymore. GT6 sales were apparently way down as compared to GT5. Though you might be able to chalk that up to the game launching in the wake of the PS4/Xbone hysteria, right now I think franchises like Uncharted, Last of Us, and Infamous are looking a bit stronger than GT. The racing genre as a whole just isn't what it used to be.

If and when the Xbox One reaches price parity with the PS4, I think it will be interesting to see if the PS4's superior performance in multiplatform titles can withstand the onslaught of Microsoft's exclusive offerings. If Destiny becomes the next big thing then maybe it might not matter, but if Titanfall is the one that catches lightning that could be bad news for Sony.

Halo and Gears, sure, they're Microsoft's big two blockbuster series. Forza though?! lol no, not even remotely close. It's in the same ballpark as Resistance and Motorstorm (2-3 million sellers).

There are a couple of other problems I have with your argument. First, you said "none of their exclusives ever put up the numbers of MS's heavy hitters," which is what I was reacting to and is a joke.

Second, so what? Even two series as big as Halo and Gears aren't going to sell millions upon millions of systems, especially since there's probably a fairly large overlap between the two fanbases.

Halo 3 sold 14.5 million units, no ps3 exclusive is even remotely close to that i think

This has been gone over time and time again. The 14.5 million figure was the entire series sales at the time Halo 3 launched. The last time Microsoft gave any official figures for Halo 3 it was at around 8 million.

i liked this one quite a bit, kyle is consistently funny to me.

now i have 2 reasons to visit GT regularly - bonus round and bosman

Ah ok, didn't know that, however it's apparently way past 8million, I know ******** is not providing definitive numbers, but they can't be off by THAT much:

Edit: lol, didnt vgc was forbidden on here ;)

Edit 2: they are saying 11.87Million btw.

Edit 3: Back on topic, the ep was great as always. Also we need more battle of the bands kind of bonus material!

Nice episode. I think the reason a decent amount of people are unsure of the PS4 is due to the lack of exclusive games. I think once games come then people in the media and on message boards will be more supportive and positive about the console.

The only reason why MS hypes Forza is because it's their answer to Gran Turismo even though it's not a huge series.

Forza 5 might have helped the series get a bit more popular though since it was a launch title. We'll see I guess.

Haha, good episode.

I died at the bonus bit. "Congratulations...
Maxibles
!" Did not see that coming... so ridiculous.

Uh, you realise Chartzzzzz pull numbers straight out of their ass, right? Yes, they can be off by THAT much.
