The Final Bosman Show

Those are some really silly complaints.
I agree that the movie feels kinda pointless but the rest... feels like complaining for the sake of complaining.
That high school analogy... I don't even...
Yeah, this will be my first time saying this but this episode was a waste of time.

Pretty meh episode. I think ND is really proud of their GAME, so proud I think they want people who may not be into games because they think they are nothing more than that Tekken 7 trailer to take notice.

Never liked the narrative that some developers feel shackled by their medium. I think it is the opposite. They want to challenge others as to what their medium is capable of doing.

I think that you're right on with ND wanting it to reach a wider audience than most traditional games, and I think that's what things like The Last of Us One Night Live help to bring attention to more than most anything else. I think the "Remaster" thing is a huge mixed bag, especially when you factor in things like shadows looking better on the lower FPS option - it throws the need for such things to exist at all into question, and while I think there is a time and place to re-release games, I don't think any time within 2 years of the games initial release should ever be anything but a GOTY edition, simply for the fact it's not been long enough for there to be enough change to really make a different product. It's smoother in some aspects to be sure, but it's still the same game coming closer to their initial visual goals.

So good that this is back.

The movie is the only one that bothers me, why tell the same story? What does it add that the VG doesn't already have? I much rather get a "Final Bosman the Movie" than TLoU movie.

Remaster describes pretty well what it actually is and the One Night Live thing, felt like a good way to promote the game.

The story about the PS3 and the weeding was surprisingly good, I' would've told the guy it was on PS4 without even thinking twice about it.

He pretty much points out all the thing that I felt about The Last Of Us and the fact that it's trying so hard to be a movie just so it can be legitimate work of art and get rid of the fact that it's a video game.
I think that's bullshit.

Even this live performance began with a studio tour and ND staff saying how video games are a superior creative medium to film.

Beyond 2 Souls was trying to be a movie while TLoU had a great balance between cutscenes and gameplay.

It may not be trying to be a movie, but it certainly is trying to be a work of art by going out of it's way to promote how AAA, the writing, music, and performances are.

More power to them, but a movie isn't needed unless you're telling a different story. But I won't hate on them for wanting a movie adaptation like books get, or Joel and Ellie on a cereal box.

Lol that's complete BS and not what he's saying at all. The game itself is trying to be a movie just as much as any other game with cutscenes and the gameplay is fantastic while also perfectly integrated into the overall experience.
Trying to get rid of the fact it's a game... where do people even come up with this shit? I can understand saying that about Quantic Dream's games for example but here? Fucking lol.
His issue is with things surrounding the game but like I said those are really silly complaints. The word remastered can only be used for music and movies? Putting accolades on the box is a problem now? Every well received game does that when it's re-released as a goty edition or whatever. I dunno, really weird episode.

Um. Wasn't the Live thing Keighly's idea? You know, that guy that works over at Game Trailers?

yeah but what are the chances of them doing it without the remastered edition and the movie both being ok-d. i thought it was cool, but like kyle said the promotional side is definitely there.

does seem like it was Keighley ideas though, that guy likes to celebrate games for sure

Yea but that's like complaining about Zelda Live music performances because they wouldn't exist unless to promote Zelda.

Can't say I agree with his points in this episode. I very firmly believe that the wider audience the film medium provides is reason enough for a proper adaptation to exist. The Last of Us is an incredible game with excellent gameplay, but it also is noteworthy for its exceptional story. It could very easily reach a lot more people by being presented through a different medium, and that's a good thing.

It's a game that I love sharing with family and friends, but I don't expect my sister or her husband, for instance, to sit down and watch me play through a fifteen hour game.

Yeah he expressed my problem with it pretty well.
If you take each element separately, it's not really as evident, but if you put them together, it is kind of annoying, for the reasons expressed in the video.

On the other hand, trying to expand the audience even with these "tricks" isn't necessarily bad, i mean the game itself isn't compromised after all.

Also, i think much of the strength of the Last Us came from it being a game, as a movie it'll probably come off as a decent to mediocre post apocalyptic drama and, as i said in the past, end up cheapening the brand somewhat.

I'm just annoyed in general at how games always seem to look up at cinema for approval though, i think David Cage is the worst offender in this.

But maybe you can argue a similar point about cinema and literature, i don't know.

Bosman wants TLOU to be happy with just being a video game? What about what TLOU wants? :) The points he made haven't diminished my (currently limited) experience with the game and, from posts on this forum, they have added to others enjoyment. Take from the TLOU what you want and ignore the rest I guess?

He really hates those laurels. If only they had stickered up that cover Batman style then this episode wouldn't exist.

That felt like a show that has been on every day and ran out of shit to say. Not a show that has been on hiatus for a month.

But isn't the new Ratchet & Clank also being called a Remaster? Seems like it's become the new 'HD' to throw on the end of somethings title, which is damned unfortunate because I think your explanation of what an actual "remaster" is was spot on.
Nah. It's more remake than anything. And honestly, it seems like Sony is or at least wants to be on top of the whole Games -> Movies thing. Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, The Last of Us. I see The Order 1886 getting a series between iterations if it's even a modest success.
(Laughing) "Don't do the whole thing."
"We have to! It got so weird. And sad. What, are you in love with the bride?"
Bwahaha. Oh Kyle. Please keep making videos for a long long time.

Eh? Whatever. That's just marketing at work. They'd rather emphasize the story and other non-gameplay aspects because they want people to see that more than everything else. I'd say it's as simple as that.

"I think it kind of sucks to like love that thing that everyone else loves" - Kyle Bosman

Bosman is a hipster #confirmed

I do agree that TLOU movie is crossing a line. It is unneeded and I also think it's dumb.

8th Gen remasters are honestly just ports with some polish. TLOU remastered has quite a bit of polish to it mind you but the main point is getting the game from either the 360 software environment or PS3 software environment to the new consoles because BC doesn't exist [which maybe it should].

I do agree that for the naming nomenclature of these, the standard title is best but obviously from a marketing perspective that's not as powerful, unless you're GTAV.

Pretty sure Kyle Bosman's high school lunches consisted mostly of LSD based on that description

I wholeheartedly agree with this episode. It reminds me of comic book fans who are insistent on calling them "graphic novels." Be proud of what you are. Video games are better than movies. Be a video game.

With how amazing the new consoles sell I'm sure adding the cost of backwards compatibility across different architectures would be a swell idea.

Oh I understand it from a cost perspective as the BOM of PS3 would clearly highlight to any interested parties but I kind of hope going forward with the simplification of the architectures generally that BC is a standard feature in at least the next generation of boxes

It's the same type of critique Bosman has always done, whether you agree with this specific one or not.

Don't tell me his E3 dos and don'ts weren't as nitpicky in nature.

Yea but that's like complaining about Zelda Live music performances because they wouldn't exist unless to promote Zelda.
The LIVE show, and he even points this out, is used as an element in a larger point he's making.
Not the problem in and out of itself.

Those are some really silly complaints.
This. What a bushel of nitpicks. I know Kyle admitted as much, but there's nothing else there.

"It kind of sucks to love the thing that everybody else loves ..."

"Remastered is, I think, a good marketing word. I think it will definitely make people buying this game feel better about themselves for buying this game. But that's a stolen word. Remastered makes sense with music and you know, movies, and not so much with videogames. It kinda seems like The Last of Us was saying 'I don't want to use a videogame word for this edition, I want to use a movie word - let's take remastered'"

"Honestly I'm still irritated by these laurels."

Remastering only means to make a new master of (a recording), typically in order to improve the quality.

And The Last of Us *is* happy to be a video game. The story alone isn't why it succeeded. I'd argue that TLOU is legendary because its a well written, well performed story married to a game, with both aspects intermingling well and reinforcing each other.

And framerate always matters ;p

Fine episode. Very nitpicky, but he admitted that, and I don't think he expected everyone to agree with him. I agree with him on some points (the movie doing the same story is dumb) but not others (the laurels).

But that ending was so great

Fine episode, glad to see that Kyle isn't afraid to talk about his opinion and how he sees things no matter the subject.

Keep 'm coming Kyle :)

I starting to think remastered games is why new consoles don't have backward compatibility.

Nah, they made the right move by switching to x86 architectures, both of them. In the long run, it'll be a better move than backwards compatibility. Sticking with PowerPC or Cell would have been a dead end.

Also, the Wii U has the same architecture of the Gamecube, and they still released an HD version of the Wind Waker.

Kyle really nailed it for me with this one. I feel very similar about all this stuff surrounding last of us but just had a hard time really expressing it.

The key phrase of me was "Why can't The Last of Us be happy to be a video game".

I can't say about TLoU specifically, since I haven't played it, but overall, one problems I currently have with video games (especially the AAA ones), is that they're trying to be cinematic and present a "mature story", they're trying to be deep and something anyone can take as serious and important. But they do that by bringing stuff from movies, they are becoming more and more movie like, to the stories they tell and how they tell the story. They don't use the strengths of video games, the game part, the part where you interact. They focus too much on the video part and that's bad. Video games won't "grow as a medium" until they stop trying to make them movies.

It's kinda like trying to make a comic book, but really wanting to be a book. You have some images here and there, but the panels have way more text then it should. You have to take advantage of the fact that you can use images. Show, don't tell. It's the same with games, don't just show the story to me, let me make it happen.

Wasn't feeling this episode as much.

I have no problems with games being turned into movies if they had a good story that was worth telling to begin with. I think that some people fail to realize that just because they played the game and think a movie of it is dumb, there are people who don't even know what a Last of Us is, so bringing it to a new medium would be worth it. No different than people making movies or tv shows off books. Not everyone is going to read that book but they will watch the show if you make it and you will gain a whole new audience.

This might be the first Final Bosman that i didn't enjoy, he was complaining about nothing lol.

-Why do they have to call it a remaster? Because it looks, sounds, and runs much better. There's absolutely no false advertising or arrogance here, it's a great way to describe the game.
-Why does it have to have a movie? Because it has a great story and billions of people dont play video games and Sony has the resources to do it. Whats the problem here again?
-Complaining about Laurel's on the cover? C'mon Kyle, really?

Love bosman though, next time he will have me cracking up like normal.

Didn't agree with Kyle's latest. It felt like the material was prepared just for the sake of being contrarian.

A Last of Us movie? Yeah, that could end up being silly, most game movies are, but I have never felt like TLOU has tried to be more than a game - the one night live felt more like a tribute to what TLOU accomplished as a video game than anything and was very well done. And why would I not want to buy a video game that I cherish in a version that offers a technically superior presentation?
