The Final Bosman Show

Easily the best takedown of the VGX I've seen yet, even more impressive when you consider the fact that Bosman clearly had to tread lightly when dealing with his parent company's show.

He got right to the point - Viacom needs to focus on making a show for people, and not just for "gamers". It's acceptable to tune a show to your audience, but not when it turns the entire thing into a cringe-worthy marathon of bad jokes about "gamer culture". Reveals should feel exciting, otherwise why do them at all? The Division had one of the most boring, self-satisfying trailers I've ever seen at an event. It felt like a randomly picked trailer out of the 300 that Ubisoft will inevitably produce in the promotion of that game. Destiny & Titanfall didn't show off anything new.
And finally, his portrayal of Reggie as a well-meaning guy with the ghost of Cranky Kong driving him to irrational decisions was perfect. For fuck's sake, he brought on a Retro Studios employee, wore a Metroid Pin, then had the gall to act like this was a real announcement.

Oh man, excellent episode, Bossman was hilarious with his "yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeahs!" haha and he's totally right about why we watch VGX. Surely Iwata hasn't forgotten the Twilight Princess reveal, people want more of that from Nintendo. Kyle's great at emoting, imagine him hosting the show with Geoff and reacting just with his face haha.

And No Man's Sky was a great surprise that we wanted to see, so more of that!

or at least everyone who is not keighley

Or everyone and Keighley. I really don't care how hard you worked for the hot XCLUSIVES, Geoff. Stop being a hype man for two seconds and be a human being.

Now Bosman, there's an honest, trustworthy guy.

I wasn't expecting to agree with him much this episode, but I'm happy to be proven wrong. Another intelligent, funny show, as usual.

Bosman is best in small, potent doses of heartwarming and imaginative truthfact.

Please don't ever subject him to the glitzy award presentation SpikeTV show whoring.

Meh I think he would be fine as a host. A host shouldn't be on the screen the entire time anyways. That's the problem with this shows production. They should introduce winners, segments Have someone else do interviews. People rag on Geoff, but he's a good interviewer. Just stick him with all the dev interviews, and be done with it. The host doesn't need to be next to the other people at all times.

At least the VGX was good for something, because that emote was a thing of beauty.

I'm going with Reggie must of known how bad that Cranky Kong reveal would be taken. A man in his position can't be that clueless, can he?

Actually, that was the Nintendo Elephant.

Very good episode as usual, especially those facial expressions

That's too bad about Bosman's reaction to Cranky Kong. In the context of the VGX awards it really wasn't that big of a deal. If there were some actual big games and announcements there, then yes...that would be a huge missed opportunity.

But based on what the VGX awards actually ended up being? lolno. It's not that serious.

Man, watching this made me feel bad for Keighley. I get the impression that he wants to do something great and impactful with the video game industry on the press side but he has these shadowy producers telling what he can't do and what he should do instead. Despite his career of success he still can't get the respect he needs to produce a show that he wants to make. And even if he did he would still have to invite on people who will just equate people watching for video games with people who like poop jokes.

I didn't bother watching the show this year. The only potential reveal I cared about was from Nintendo (partly because I'm a raging fanboy and partly because I didn't care about anything else going into it) and the awards are for the games, not, like Bosman said, the people or teams who made them.

In the future I hope Bosman's role as a face of GameTrailers expands and maybe he can do some hosting, or at least writing, in the future. At least he has the decency to look professional from the waist up and comes off as genuine.

To be fair, Geoff did rake Reggie over the coals about as much as he could get away with. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo wasn't pissed off at him after that. But they really did deserve it.

Gotta wonder if they did plan to bring Metroid, and this was the second time a higher-up (Miyamoto?) blocked it at the last second.

Why does it matter what other people did?
Nintendo had peoples attention--the kind of people who probably don't watch Nintendo directs in addition to those who do--and they essentially told them "we don't have anything interesting to show you."

If Nintendo had shown something amazing, how could that have been bad? They'd be right with No Man's Sky as "The only interesting thing about the show," and I can't see that as a bad thing unless "Nintendo Show's up to VGX with amazing announcements; They are stupid for doing so, lol." is a legitimate headline.

Heck, if no one else brings their A game, congratulations: you're the only company people will talk about.

I almost think Reggie wore the Metroid pin as a silent form of protest against NCL (Japan), because he knew that Cranky Kong was not enough.

It seems kind of crazy considering the PR guys okaying stuff, but who knows?

Love watching this show.

Agreed 100% with the Titanfall "commercials". Not at all exciting.

And I'm still not feeling the huge hype behind Destiny, even as a huge Halo fan.

I like Nintendo, but Kyle's elephant routine never ceases to amuse me. Probably 'cause it's accurate. I honestly don't think Reggie is faking any of what he does.

Kyle's skewering of the VGX awards was so much better than everyone else's. None of that "stop offending us, these are the Spielbergs of the industry" bullshit. I loved it.

The reveals were pretty lackluster simply because most of them weren't actually reveals. Titanfall, Destiny, and Donkey Kong were lame because we already knew they exist. Bungie's probably making a great game, but even their official first reveal of that game was terrible, and nothing they've done since has been much better.

His request that Geoff and company make a show that might simply just be good for people is one that will unfortunately fall on deaf ears. Geoff doesn't give a shit.

I honestly thought Kyle would run out of things to talk about after the launches all happened, but he's having no trouble coming up with poignant, thoughtful, relevant things to say every week.

When has Keighley not done that to Reggie though?

Destiny is really starting to remind me more and more of modern warfare 1
I have really high hopes
Dont forget that hype is not necessary for and usually hinders a great gaming experience

Something I realized while watching this episode.

In an earlier video, Kyle highlighted Starfighter as one of his "next-gen experiences" of sorts, back in the day. When he took his vehicle, decided to screw the rules, aimed it skyward and just flew straight up - and instead of being turned around automatically, he actually left the atmosphere of the planet the level he was playing took place on, and was free to return to it at any point.

So here's No Man's Sky, with a trailer where you go from an underwater adventure to the shores of an oddly-colored forest, where you have a spaceship parked on a nearby beach that you can hop into and then go flying clean out of the atmosphere to examine space battles and oddly-shaped asteroids. All, seamlessly, without any loading screens.

Of course Kyle was gonna "YEAAAAAH" that. It lines up with an old mind-blowing experience of his, only this one's a few magnitudes better.

omg, just saw the VGX episode. It's perfect, just the same I thought about them. I wonder why there isn't more gaming journalists like him. With sense of humour, good taste and free of bullshit.

So true. I remember having ZERO hype for COD4. Then it turned out to be amazing.

Maybe it's better not to be hyped.
