A four-disc 3D version of The Force Awakens has been announced. It's being released at the end of October in some European territories, with a US release coming on November 15th.

The set has some new exclusive features, including a commentary track from director and co-writer J.J. Abrams and some new deleted scenes.

Additional features include:

- A look at how sound technicians blend action with audio effects in the featurette Foley: A Sonic Tale.

- Sounds of the Resistance, another audio themed doc showing how the sound designers blended real recordings into otherworldly effects in the film.

- Deleted Scenes – While there were a handful of deleted footage on the original Blu-ray, this one promises even more “never-before-shared” scenes.

- Dressing the Galaxy – A look at how wardrobe designs from the original trilogy were retooled by costume designer Michael Kaplan to fit the galaxy three decades later.

- Daisy Ridley and John Boyega share a conversation in The Scavenger and the Stormtrooper, a featurette that was released only on the previous disc as an exclusive at Target stores.

- Inside the Armory – A tour of the various weapons and battle gear in the battle between the Resistance and The First Order.

Unless it's a new cut or something, I'm happy with what I have. Commentary is nice but not necessary and the box art isn't amazing enough for me to get it for that reason either. If 3D is your thang then go for it.

Waiting for the 4K uhd Blu Ray version to dip.
Hopefully they also release the theatrical cuts of the original trilogy next year for the 40th anniversary.

Nice to see the Star Wars tradition of re-releasing versions of the films is extending to the new films as well. Excited for the next re-release with an exclusive first look at Episode 8 as well.

Don't have a 3D tv, so that's lame as fuck for it to have an exclusive commentary. Also, please get in the 4K bluray game, Disney. I'll pay whatever price you deem necessary.

I wonder if they're pulling an Avatar Blu-ray release schedule. IIRC, Avatar had a TV/Blu-ray player exclusive disc, movie only disc, collectors disc with commentary, 3D disk, then finally an all encompassing 3D/commentary/standard disc, also maybe an extended cut? I can't remember.

Saw this in theaters in both 3D and 2D but even though the 3D didn't add that much, it'll still be nice to have this. And that cover will look sick if it's lenticular.

The deleted scenes included in the original release were universally terrible, hopefully this edition has some of the cut material people actually wanted to see

Surprised we're still seeing 3D releases at all. It was an HD-DVD level flameout in home theater.

Hopefully the extras make it to the rest of us.
