Looks like COTA (company behind Austin GP) are willing to pay the sanctioning fee to the FIA but instead of signing the contract they agreed earlier they have re-written it on more favourable terms and sent it back to Bernie to approve.

She's dead baby, you can't play hardball with Bernie and money.

I hate you, Tavo and COTA. All my rage, especially when the GP in NJ falls apart as it inevitably will.

Why would it be any different from this year's coverage? SPEED with live coverage of most races, Tape Delayed on Fox for 3 or 4 races in the summer (after Fox loses NASCAR).

Yep. Same as this year. I'd imagine they'd broadcast the USGP live but LOL NEVER HAPPENING. God it makes me sad typing that. :(

Honoring the Brazilian GP I decided to take time out of my busy schedule to finish His Helmet. Hope He doesn`t object against my ten second job...

There's a Sky ad on the Red Bull. Helmet cam is neat but too high.

Its for Brazil Sky, not the UK one.

Also more info on the F1 Channel on sky sports website -

Sky Sports is to launch a dedicated channel for its new in-depth Formula 1 coverage, taking viewers under the skin of the sport.

Starting in March 2012, Sky Sports F1 HD will get Sky customers closer than ever, with more action, analysis and information - on their TV, online and mobile devices - throughout the season.

This new home of Formula 1 will be the only place to enjoy live coverage of the whole Grand Prix season, including all practice and qualifying sessions and every race in the calendar.

From its launch, Sky Sports F1 HD will give viewers:

EVERY RACE LIVE: From March to November, every moment of each race will be live in HD, without the interruption of adverts.

LIVE PRACTICE AND QUALIFYING: Every practice and qualifying session for each Grand Prix will be shown live on one channel, Sky Sports F1 HD.

THE FULL SEASON IN-DEPTH: Over nine months, viewers will have a wealth of programmes with in-depth interviews, archive action and weekly magazine shows.

EXTRA LIVE CONTENT: Through Sky's interactive service, fans can follow the action through on-board cameras, go behind the scenes with the teams in the pits, and follow race data, to take them further inside the sport.

The dedicated channel will be provided at no extra charge to all Sky TV customers who take both Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 or the HD pack of channels. It will be found at 408 in Sky's on-screen guide, after a scheduled move of the Sky Sports channels. Sky Sports viewers without the Sky+ HD pack will receive a standard definition version.

Sky Sports F1 HD viewers can also follow the action wherever they are with all live coverage on Sky Go, through online, mobile or tablet devices, at no extra charge.

Announcing the new channel, Barney Francis, Managing Director of Sky Sports, said: "Formula 1 followers are hungry for more and we want to give them the ultimate experience. It's not just every minute of every race but a channel devoted to Formula 1.

"We can now tell the whole story of the season, from every Grand Prix, from start to finish. Formula 1 will get the full Sky Sports treatment. We have big plans for live shows and a rich line-up of Formula 1 programmes; getting to the drivers, exploring the technology and lapping up the drama.

"With a dedicated channel for Formula 1 we can also give all sports fans the depth and breadth of sports they demand every weekend, right through the year."

Jeremy Darroch, Sky's Chief Executive, added: "This brand new channel again proves Sky's commitment to investing in the best content for customers. It will give even more value to Sky customers and create another reason for others to consider pay TV.

"This is another example of the value we are creating for customers through our content leadership. It follows the recent launch of other high-quality new channels like Sky Atlantic and Sky 3D as well as our growing commitment to UK original content in areas such as drama, comedy and the arts."

More information on Sky Sports F1 HD can be found at www.sky.com/f1

So you dont need to pay for sky sports if you have the HD pack :)

Fuck, I wish I knew what was happening to the countries that aired the BBC footage (like Australia). If it goes pay-only here, I'll be fucking pissed because you can bet your arse there won't be an option to get a channel/stream that's F1 only.

So the mail did have it wrong, im shocked

Not necessarily.

If Sky do intend to make the channel available through freeview, I wouldn't expect it to be announced at the same time (likely a month or so before the start of the season). Otherwise they'd likely dissuade anyone that's on the fence as to whether to subscribe in the mean time.

You'd get the F1 channel, not in HD though.

Twats. I get BBC, ITV, Film 4 etc. in HD, but I refuse to pay extra for it.

I don't care I have Sky Sports already (Virgin Media customer), I just don't want a change with how glorious F1 has been for the last few years.

From the Broadcast article on the channel:

Talks are underway to secure distribution with Virgin Media though no deal is yet done.

If VM plans aren't signed off yet, then I very much doubt Freeview plans would be either (if it's something they're considering).

So the cheapest way to get F1 for those who do not subscribe to sky is £363

Sky Entertainment pack - £20/month
Sky HD pack - £10.25/month

£30.25 x 12 = £363

and you can usually get the sky boxes/setup for free
Not sure how sky contracts work & if its possible to cancel that for 2/3 months during the off season.

Didn't someone say you can pay £10/month to get it on Freeview? Or was that just speculation?

It is understood that Sky is in talks with other providers about making the channel available, with pay-TV rival Virgin Media most likely to agree a carriage deal.

BT Vision and Top Up TV, which both already provide Sky Sports 1 and 2, would need to purchase another Freeview channel slot to be able to offer Sky Sports F1, which makes carriage unlikely due to the high cost.

Looks like Virgin Media is the best bet for people without Sky.

When you go HD, you can't go back...D

Bernie has really took the sport into the level it is now, but I think he's killing it.. To run races you need a govt to step in or its not feasible anymore by itself. TV channels are dropping the coverage of the sport. Internet blackout on almost everything F1

This has to stop or the sport will keep losing popularity

Liuzzi's helmet this weekend is painted in the same paint used for blackboards so he can draw his own design onto it. Pretty cool, could cause problems if it rains though!

FYI, the tennis is overrunning on BBC red button, they will show practice once the tennis is finished. In the meantime the only option is to watch P2 on the BBC website.

Ten will still retain the coverage, but they will probably have to use their own commentary for the sky races, or make a deal to license it from sky.

Edit: The pictures Ten gets are the same as for everybody, there is just one feed from each race, so that won't change.
