Perhaps, but they don't have a right to harm people or trespass on private property.

Of course, realized I'd forgotten about that in my last post. This just goes back to the ongoing situation in the country, protests have been going on for well over a year, and nothing seems to have changed. Combine that with incidents of riot control shooting some of the more violent protestors, which agitates the population even more, you see why the protests have become violent.
This is why the teams shouldn't have gone here, as the government has pressing issues to sort out, instead of hosting a race for politicians and the rich.

Sup guys! What's going on in

I think I have the perfect F1 gif for every time this thread turns to shit:

Here's a comment from Bahrain's Information Affairs Authority this morning...

No person will be arrested for merely protesting. Demonstrations have been ongoing this week and there will be more to go. So long as they follow the proper procedure and they don’t infringe upon anybody else’s rights, those will be fine.

I don't think the government has an unreasonable stance on this matter. Do you?

Over the last year, the Bahraini government has arrested hundreds, and killed dozens of protesters that weren't infringing upon anybody else’s rights. That's their stance, not this BS presser.

True. You are worse.

Perhaps. It's impossible for me to know how you subjectively judge people. Maybe I am a terrible fire-breathing monster, but I don't think this is the right venue to discuss things like that.

However, if you want clarification on anything I've done or said, feel free to shoot me a PM.

That seems unlikely, but I guess anything's possible. I don't know Bahraini law well enough to know what rights people do and don't have over there. There's clearly a difference of opinion here on GAF about whether this race should be held, but I think we can all agree that we want things to go smoothly this weekend (general safety, great on-track battles, etc) now that the race seems inevitable.

The event is inevitable. The race is definitely not if these concerns materialise. And to be honest, I think pretty much everyone here agrees the race shouldn't be going ahead.

NOoooo not the gumdrop buttons.

Hahaha, I watched that first movie too much.

I'm starting to tire of discussing Bahrain, since we're going in circles now.

* Sure is.

I want this thread to be about F1, not about politics, so I will accept that most of you want this race to be cancelled and just hope for the best.

For what it's worth, I don't... but I'll freely admit it's for entirely selfish reasons.

That said I actually think F1 going or not going will make a grand total of zero difference to the political situation in the country. Though if anything it gives the protesters a far larger stage to get their voice heard from (lets face it, outside of F1 the press has completely lost interest in the situation in Bahrain).

It's closer to basic morality than it is to 'politics', which is why it's completely meaningless of you to keep bringing it to "what rights people do and don't have over there". I don't think you grasp what the concept of a 'right' is.

But I'm gonna leave it there because this is still an F1 thread.

Actually, if i was a F1 driver and i won the race on sunday, i would like to pull out a flag or something in the podium along the lines of "Free Bahrein", and i´m sure it would be one hell of a protest, even tough this one would include racing in a turbulent country.

But we all know no driver on the field has the balls to do this and/or most of them know nothing about politics.

Mclaren, i love your PC Racing Sims thread, and i would love for that thread to remain opened and with news, so please don´t get yourself in trouble getting banned here.

Formula 1 testing set to return to Silverstone amid talks over splitting young driver test with Abu Dhabi
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/98927
Teams have therefore agreed that they will have the option of running at either Silverstone in July or at the Yas Marina circuit after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in November.

The final details of the tests need to be sorted out to ensure that one group of teams is not given an advantage by getting exclusive access to development tyres at the end of the year.

In a bid to ensure that teams are also not disadvantaged by bad weather at Silverstone, they will be able to pull out of the running if it looks like the test will be a washout.

However, it is understood that if a team's car leaves the pits at the first test, then they will be deemed to have chosen that test so cannot therefore take part in the Abu Dhabi running.

I'd imagine most teams would choose Silverstone over Abu Dhabi given the choice.

Hamilton or Button especially.

This isn't a dig at them since they are my favourite drivers, but they're probably under more pressure to not talk shit about Bahrain due to the Bahrain government sadly owning 50% of McLaren.

The power resides with the teams now, not the drivers.

If Hamilton, for example, refused to drive in Bahrain, McLaren wouldn't hesitate putting Paffet or someone in the car instead.

From a selfish standpoint I hope it won't go ahead since I will be at work and not able to watch (computers there are too shitty to stream it). But also from a common sense standpoint I hope it doesn't.

Webber was the driver on the first flip at Le Mans in 99. A different driver was involved in the second flip which I think was during qualifying. The video of the car going into the trees was the second crash. Watched it live (on Eurosport) and couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Edit: It's my lifelong ambition to spend the weekend at the racetrack for the Le Mans 24 hour. Would have been a lot cheaper and easier when I lived in the UK, but never made it.

More proof that Webber is a terrible driver.

Fixed. :p

Peter Dumbreck was the driver of the second crash and I too was watching it live. It was probably somewhere between midnight and 2am where I live and I almost surely woke up the neighbors with the yell I let out.

I know it's a cartoon but Hamilton generally looked pretty happy for Rosberg on Sunday.
Hamilton and Rosberg used to be karting teammates and they still have a great friendship.

According to the comments that isn't Webber.

Correct, that is Dumbreck's crash during the race. Mercedes immediately withdrew its other car (driven by Bernd Schneider at the time).
